@asianhero3 i do believe this gap in between what's semi expert and expert is smaller nowadays. d7000 is all we all need. go to... freedslr . c0m change 0 with o and get an opportunity to bring home a Brand New Nikon D7000
Listen; he say's.. "as with the 40D".. (So his telling you/us the differences with the 40D and 50D; this is mainly because there are just a few differences between the two, so if you cant afford the better 50D, you will still know what the 40D is able to do)
@Appleaddict22 the 50D is a class above the T2i. This camera is for serious amatuers because it features more advanced features such as in-camera adjustable white balance, AF micro adjust and such. This is truly a photographer's camera while the T2i is more like an Hi-end entry level.
@pedrap858 Which lens you go for really depends on the type of shots your looking for. For a good versatile lens with excellent results and a reasonable price i recomend the EFS 15 - 85mm IS USM. Iv had good results with this and i know others who have to.
All of your reviews are the same, You always seem to point out how the Camera is not as great as the model above it, and you seem like you favor Nikon to much. A very biased opinion based review.
I am in the market for a DSLR and i was open minded. I didn't care if i bought a Nikon or Canon.... i couldn't care less.. but looking at things. Right now, they are ahead of the game from what I see.
I've seen many of your reviews and find your reviews very much swayed towards your own personal prefereces. rather than a true and honest review. not good
You said exactly wot i wanted 2 hear!! 'A good upgrade option' Im currently using the 400D & am looking 2 upgrade. The 50D is the one i am gonna go for. My Cusion wants to buy my 400D body off me as a beginner DSLR . im gonna sell the 18-55, 90-300 lenses and use the money i get off them to put to buying my 50D. Ive seen it in a kit for just over 900 wiv a 18-200 lens. which is wot im gonna go for. i also have a 100-400 USM IS lens for my 400D but im keeping that !!!
@whitewingsrich You wont be disappoionted with a 50D, especially with your 100 - 400 IS USM on it. I had a 50D and recently upgraded to a 7D. They are both good cameras but for the money the 50D is outstanding value ..... and you already have a good lens.
im really getting a hard time about deciding which camera should i buy im thinking about nikon d5000, canon EOS 500 and the olympus E-620 i really would like some recommendations....
PS anything over 12MP is a marketing scam, unless you are looking to significantly enlarge the photos, thus the reason for Nikon not bothering to get into the MP arms war, they know it does not matter. Similarly whats the point of putting ISO12500 on a camera when it is not usable due to noise? Only FX cameras are capable of shooting at this ISO setting. Finally sorry about the Canon 'bashing' I am sure it is a very good camera, it just seems to me that it does not know what it is trying to be!
Erm.. it ain't totally a scam, it's something aimed at those lazy consumer bastards that shoot only JPEGs in auto mode and want big sized prints from that lol, too bad they don't know that a raw picture file, even from a camera with as low as 8MPx can be modified later in software to extreme dimensions along with the DPI&PPI to suit those lengths so when printed it would not loose in quality, and I'm talking about XXXL poster sized prints here like those that Benetton had but 2x times bigger.
I think I meant that anything greater than 12MP on a DX (1.5/1.6 crop) just adds noise. If the noise is reduced it is due to noise reduction, which ultimately will smear the photo and you lose detail. Looking at the comparisons between DX and FX on Ken Rockwells site shows that for the same amount of MP an FX sensor will hold more detail over the DX because it is not employing massive noise reduction, this can be seen at even 12MP.
. It is my opinion that probably 8 to 10MP is the limit for a crop sensor, since you start getting parasitic voltages and gate effects between each pixel when you make the transistors on the silicone too small ( I ought to know I am an Electronics Engineer and Integrated Circuit design was on of my University subjects. This is why I think its a bit of a scam.
Indeed, I class RAW in film terms as the negative and jpeg as the print, if you take just the jpeg it's like taking a Polaroid, its a picture you can show your friends but you cannot do much more than that (and still keep the quality). Also jpeg as a standard is 8bit (256 levels), where RAW is 12 (4096 levels) or 14bit (16384), just look at how much information is lost when shooting jpeg. I tend to shoot RAW + jpeg (basic), memory is so cheap at the moment you get the best of both worlds.
It's ok, I give it, therefore I can take it, you are wrong of course;-). I actually own both makes, but prefer the ergonomics of the Nikon for day to day use. Some people prefer Canon, its a personal choice thing and I am sure you and others are happy with that choice. If someone asks me which camera they should buy I suggest they figure out how much they want to spend, look at the features and go and try them. I do suggest they look at the Nikon and Canon because their systems are great.
I prefer the ergonomics of the D300 over the 50D. I tried my friends 50D some time ago and found the buttons and controls quite difficult to use quickly. I do remember having to look for some functions in menus (I cannot remember what I was looking for right now (sorry not much use=)) but do remember having to search around for things. The ergonomics of the D300 are first class, all the buttons are where you would want them to be and I very (very) rarely have to go to any in camera menus.
as long as the "writing" indicator light is not blinking, it is fine to remove the memory card even the device is on ON mode. Besides, putting the memory card slot separate from the battery means that it is hot swappable, and that you do not need to turn off the device just to remove it the memory card.
i reckon that it was a dumb move by canon to get rid if the extra custom function mode for something even stupider than auto (CA)
who doesn't know how to adjust aperture and exposure compensation? If you don't even know what they are, you need to sell your 50D and pick up the panasonic point and shoot.
No... I just think that putting such a ridiculously basic mode on a semi pro dslr was a dumb move. I have a 50D and it doesn't annoy me or affect anything to have that mode, but I just think it was stupid. Most people new to photography wont be buying a 50D anyway.
i did say MOST people not ALL. Doesnt matter though. I say get the best you can afford because if you got a 500D for example, you will probably upgrade to the 50D later on. Enjoy it lol
Well why not put that feature on it, longbeachlt made a good purchase because he can now progress to the level of calculating apertures, exposures, shutter speed etc. instead of paying another $1000 on a new DSLR that can do that.
Hi, can anyone help me I am stating college in Sept (Photography) and looking at a 500D or the 50D and I just cant make up my mind, any ideas? What about waiting for the 60D??
As soon as you buy the latest the next model or 'upgrade' is in the works, so don't worry about that. Going into such a course you want to be out taking the photographs you want to take as soon as you can. Whether you choose the 500D or 50D, you can start taking great photographs and gradually save up for that great camera and suitable lenses you've had your eye on. Hey, maybe you'll be in a position to sell some pictures.
The 500D and 50D have more differences than compared to their 'lower models'.
The 50D is more of a "real" DLSR, the 500D is more of a starter camera that you'll upgard to a 50D or 5D at a later date. The 500D is small and feels like it is geared towards the female market. If you don't mind holding a small camera, it is a greater starter camera, it has everything you'll need.
However, if you have the cash, get the 50D hands down.
Personally what I would recommend (Which you and most people will probably just balk at) is that if you're new to photography (Or at least, SLR photography) I'd honestly tell you to just grab yourself a used rebel xti.
There's no need to spend the extra money on a t1i or a 50d. The xti will work just fine, you can get a used one for around $400. If you're not into photography seriously, you haven't wasted $1000, or more.
If you do go that route, the XTI will work just fine. It's a decent beginners camera and you'll have the experience once you learn and figure everything out to treat a real camera, like the 50d with the love, respect and care it deserves.
Because I can tell you from my own experience and that of other people.. If I had something like a 40d or 50d when I first started out I would have had to replace it by now simply because I didn't know everything that I know now.
In my opinion a semi-professional camera shouldn't be something you use to learn photography on.
Think of it as a car. Would you teach someone how to shift and drive a manual on a very expensive corvette, porsche, or something like that?
No, you'd get something like a little kia rio or something like that because if they screw up that car, it's not as big of a deal as if it was something more expensive and professional.
Unless of course' money isn't a concern to you. In that case, go nuts!
maybe but anyone isn't gonna screw up a camera are they, unless they drop it all that will happen is that the amateur will not know how to use the cameras best functions accordingl, a camera like this imo would be great to learn on, and all it takes for the average beginner is to check out vids on youtube regarding the mode dials on their particular camera and how to work them
Dont order a camera just from a review. Go out and actually TRY IT yourself.
Whichever one is more comfortable to you is the one you should get. Forget the name, forget the price.
Because at the end of the day, none of that matters. If you're using a camera you're not comfortable with you're not going to have a good time shooting with it.
You should also look at lenses available to both brands as well as their prices. From what I've read (and that's allot :D), the Nikon lenses are more expensive (but better quality?) than the Canon ones.
You should definitely go into a shop and hold them both. Just by doing so, you will probably make up your mind there and then. The first time I held a Canon, it just felt right.
I was reading the comments between you and another YouTuber. I just wanted to say............ Congratulations!!! I am getting one too. I can't wait. Hope you enjoy yours. And personally....I think it's great that you have parents that obviously care so much for you. Not many kids this day and age can say the same.
When my son is older and if he has a skill such as yours, it would be my absolute pleasure to be able to buy something like this for him.
Can you not use correct grammar? Reading your comments is much harder than anyone else's on this video. It's like you're going out of your way to misspell words and not use any punctuation at all.
I think you'll find in the real world, most people can't afford to send over US$1000 on their 15 year old kids birthday. Also, most parent would feel it unwise to give such a powerful camera to such a young person. Your parents must have allot of money if they are willing to take that risk.
I grew up in a middle class house hold (eg, not rich/not poor), and there was *no way* my parents would spend over $100 on me, let alone $1000! Do you really need the power of the 50D?
iam not rich + im getting money from my fam for my 16th bday im using that to pay im very serious wen it comes to photography ive won contests in school ive researched this camera since feb iam not having a s16 prty bc of it i dont get wat i want this is something i earned
this is the only thing im getting for my
16th bday my aunt is a pro photographer her friend who works at Nikon said this camera is a great choice for someone with my skill level. they've seen my work i think i can handle it
I was implying your parents must be better off than the majority of people in the world for them commit to letting you have a 'semi-pro' camera at such a young age.
Put it this way: How many other teenagers (15 year olds) do you know that are receiving a high-end enthusiast grade camera for their birthday?
I think you missed my point and any more explanation will not convince you otherwise, which, coincidently enough, was the point I was trying to make.
and probably i might of misunderstood wat u ment, honestly i wanna kinda stop with this commenting back and forth and yadyadayada
but its bothering me now b/c u said how my parents would buy it for me ... lol my mom was insisting on paying for it...and i seriously think shes crazy. haha iam paying her back w/ my bday money so yeah. sooo yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
While it may sound rather rude.. Based off of what I could tell from how she types to the videos on her profile and the limited info on her myspace. She probably is, as well as shallow and self centered.
But you know, like she said, she's 15(ish) and in todays world - what do you expect?
But I don't even like the 50 I'd much rather have the 40d. Just slap on a nice lens and you're good to go and I really don't like the new cameras canon's putting out. They're really starting to turn me off >:(
wait u saw my myspace??? but i have that on private....
but actualy im 16 now but still i understand wat u mean... but u cant base ppl on there videos and myspace.
this is something that anoyes me about people, wen people under estimate teenagers based on things like myspace and youtube, its not like thats who we really are, its just videos nd words
but u have ur own opinion so its chill
(:
i think the 5d mark II is a little over the top, if u want hd vid, just get a hd vid cam ha but w/e
Actually you can tell a lot about a person from very little information - you'd be surprised.
I also never said anything about the 5dmk2. I talked about the 40d. Big difference.
However speaking about the 5dmk2, I'm actually going to be purchasing it soon once I save up some more cash and pair it with a great lens. Something like a 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.2 or 300 2.8.
I agree that the 5D Mark II is an awesome camera. It has the full frame which is about the only feature I think is missing from the 50D that I'd want :-).
Can I ask what specific features are on the 50D that are turning you away? I have held both cameras and played with their menus (in store) and the only thing I can tell is that the 50D is a direct upgrade from the 40D. Was there something I missed?
@LacrosseGirl27: I don't ever think you'll understand what we were talking about... sigh.
No, you didn't miss anything. It's just personal taste.
With the newer cameras I don't like (As crazy as this may sound) the anti-reflective coatings. I don't like the info menus - not the normal menus but the info one. I HATE the dial on the 50d - the silver annoys me beyond belief. I don't like the creative auto mode, it just makes me feel like I'm buying a pns just having it on the camera.
There's more but im running out of characters. But that's why I'd get the 40d. It just fits me better.
thats really cool, ik there totaly different but w/e, this is totaly random ...once again but isnt the creative auto, one of the new features on the 50D b/c i dont remember seeing it on the 40d
They're honestly not that different. Aside from a few minor changes. Also, please don't tell me you're buying the 50d because of the CA mode or the fact that it's "15mp" and yes, the CA mode is new on the 50d. But can be found on other newer canon cameras as well.
Also, please never use it or any of the auto or shooting modes (Like portrait, landscape, etc). Shoot on manual forever and always.
If you just shoot on automatic you won't grow as a photographer as much and I can guarantee that.
It's pretty even. See which accessories you like the most, and look at the options available for each camera. Look at example photos because the cameras shoot different styles, choose the one that best suits your need.
I was looking at the 500D Rebel/T1i but after seeing them both in real life (and holding them), the 500D Rebel/T1i seems like a child's toy in comparison to the 50D.
The extra size and weight are well worth missing out on 1080p 20fps video recording IMO.
the nikon D90 is in the same class as the canon xsi 450D ---/--- the nikon D300 is in the same class as the canon 50D (which are the top, crop sensor models)

Look at 5:11 and see how silly is this guy to OPEN the CF Card slot while the camera is still ON.
This is an EXCELLENT recipe to corrupt the card and then maybe the electronic system and then you can have a very expensive bill to pay.
How can he forget to do this while doing a review or did he forget to edit the video before the publication!!
I doubt if he practice this presentation NOT to open the CF door before switching the power off.

homersimpson587 2 years ago
are you saying you can't manually adjust aperture nor exposure on the camera?
jvw2941 2 years ago
No... I just think that putting such a ridiculously basic mode on a semi pro dslr was a dumb move. I have a 50D and it doesn't annoy me or affect anything to have that mode, but I just think it was stupid. Most people new to photography wont be buying a 50D anyway.
homersimpson587 2 years ago
i am new to photofraphy and i got the 50D lol
longbeachlt 2 years ago 3
i did say MOST people not ALL. Doesnt matter though. I say get the best you can afford because if you got a 500D for example, you will probably upgrade to the 50D later on. Enjoy it lol
homersimpson587 2 years ago
Well why not put that feature on it, longbeachlt made a good purchase because he can now progress to the level of calculating apertures, exposures, shutter speed etc. instead of paying another $1000 on a new DSLR that can do that.
jvw2941 2 years ago
hehe mee too :) i only have experience of mobile cams, haha! wll recieve the 50d in about a week, cant wait!

Hi, can anyone help me I am stating college in Sept (Photography) and looking at a 500D or the 50D and I just cant make up my mind, any ideas? What about waiting for the 60D??
bazamorris 2 years ago
As soon as you buy the latest the next model or 'upgrade' is in the works, so don't worry about that. Going into such a course you want to be out taking the photographs you want to take as soon as you can. Whether you choose the 500D or 50D, you can start taking great photographs and gradually save up for that great camera and suitable lenses you've had your eye on. Hey, maybe you'll be in a position to sell some pictures.
madcatmotions 2 years ago
The 500D and 50D have more differences than compared to their 'lower models'.
The 50D is more of a "real" DLSR, the 500D is more of a starter camera that you'll upgard to a 50D or 5D at a later date. The 500D is small and feels like it is geared towards the female market. If you don't mind holding a small camera, it is a greater starter camera, it has everything you'll need.
However, if you have the cash, get the 50D hands down.
3Z3K13L08 2 years ago
@BAZAMORRIS:
(Continued....)
AvisSpes 2 years ago

AvisSpes 2 years ago 2
maybe but anyone isn't gonna screw up a camera are they, unless they drop it all that will happen is that the amateur will not know how to use the cameras best functions accordingl, a camera like this imo would be great to learn on, and all it takes for the average beginner is to check out vids on youtube regarding the mode dials on their particular camera and how to work them

I Quite Confuesd at The moment I'am still Debating of Which Camera Togo With?
Nikon D90 or Canon 50D?
HelP!?
tombrady777lol 2 years ago
Dont order a camera just from a review. Go out and actually TRY IT yourself.
Whichever one is more comfortable to you is the one you should get. Forget the name, forget the price.
Because at the end of the day, none of that matters. If you're using a camera you're not comfortable with you're not going to have a good time shooting with it.
AvisSpes 2 years ago
I agree with Avis.
3Z3K13L08 2 years ago
I wouldn't say Nikkor lenses are any better or more expensive. There are awful lenses on both sides.
Granted I have noticed that most low end Nikkor lenses are better than their Canon counterparts.
However you can buy a 70 - 200 2.8 lens from Canon and it's tack sharp with very little chromatic or sidel aberrations.
And I know what you meant about it "feeling right".
I can't stand the Nikon cameras just for the simple fact that it doesn't feel right in my hands.

LacrosseGirl27,
I was reading the comments between you and another YouTuber.

It says ALLOT about your character.

wat????
its not like i write essays and other things with grammar like this, its just youtube not an english final lolol

but my parents r geting it for me nd noooo im not rich and im not poor

I just got 18 and my parents aren't paying one for me... And I even need it for my study next year!
So lucky as hell you are!
Narkodas 2 years ago 2
"not rich" she says...
3Z3K13L08 2 years ago
iam not rich + im getting money from my fam for my 16th bday im using that to pay im very serious wen it comes to photography ive won contests in school ive researched this camera since feb iam not having a s16 prty bc of it i dont get wat i want this is something i earned
this is the only thing im getting for my
16th bday my aunt is a pro photographer her friend who works at Nikon said this camera is a great choice for someone with my skill level. they've seen my work i think i can handle it
LacrosseGirl27 2 years ago
I never said you were rich.
3Z3K13L08 2 years ago
2 of my friends have dslr's
and probably i might of misunderstood wat u ment, honestly i wanna kinda stop with this commenting back and forth and yadyadayada
but its bothering me now b/c u said how my parents would buy it for me ... lol my mom was insisting on paying for it...and i seriously think shes crazy. haha iam paying her back w/ my bday money so yeah. sooo yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i really dont wanna commment on this anymore
haha

While it may sound rather rude.. Based off of what I could tell from how she types to the videos on her profile and the limited info on her myspace. She probably is, as well as shallow and self centered.
But you know, like she said, she's 15(ish) and in todays world - what do you expect?
But I don't even like the 50 I'd much rather have the 40d. Just slap on a nice lens and you're good to go and I really don't like the new cameras canon's putting out. They're really starting to turn me off >:(
AvisSpes 2 years ago
wait u saw my myspace??? but i have that on private....
but actualy im 16 now but still i understand wat u mean... but u cant base ppl on there videos and myspace.
this is something that anoyes me about people, wen people under estimate teenagers based on things like myspace and youtube, its not like thats who we really are, its just videos nd words
but u have ur own opinion so its chill
(:
i think the 5d mark II is a little over the top, if u want hd vid, just get a hd vid cam ha but w/e
LacrosseGirl27 2 years ago
Actually you can tell a lot about a person from very little information - you'd be surprised.
I also never said anything about the 5dmk2. I talked about the 40d. Big difference.
However speaking about the 5dmk2, I'm actually going to be purchasing it soon once I save up some more cash and pair it with a great lens. Something like a 50mm 1.2, 85mm 1.2 or 300 2.8.
However it has nothing to do with the HD video.
AvisSpes 2 years ago
I agree that the 5D Mark II is an awesome camera. It has the full frame which is about the only feature I think is missing from the 50D that I'd want :-).
Can I ask what specific features are on the 50D that are turning you away? I have held both cameras and played with their menus (in store) and the only thing I can tell is that the 50D is a direct upgrade from the 40D. Was there something I missed?
@LacrosseGirl27: I don't ever think you'll understand what we were talking about... sigh.
3Z3K13L08 2 years ago
No, you didn't miss anything. It's just personal taste.
With the newer cameras I don't like (As crazy as this may sound) the anti-reflective coatings. I don't like the info menus - not the normal menus but the info one. I HATE the dial on the 50d - the silver annoys me beyond belief. I don't like the creative auto mode, it just makes me feel like I'm buying a pns just having it on the camera.
There's more but im running out of characters. But that's why I'd get the 40d. It just fits me better.
AvisSpes 2 years ago 3
i understand
LacrosseGirl27 2 years ago
thats really cool, ik there totaly different but w/e, this is totaly random ...once again but isnt the creative auto, one of the new features on the 50D b/c i dont remember seeing it on the 40d
LacrosseGirl27 2 years ago
They're honestly not that different. Aside from a few minor changes. Also, please don't tell me you're buying the 50d because of the CA mode or the fact that it's "15mp" and yes, the CA mode is new on the 50d. But can be found on other newer canon cameras as well.
Also, please never use it or any of the auto or shooting modes (Like portrait, landscape, etc). Shoot on manual forever and always.
If you just shoot on automatic you won't grow as a photographer as much and I can guarantee that.
AvisSpes 2 years ago 3
Manual or Av/Tv imo.. If those modes aren't used mainly, then don't bother buying a (D)SLR in the first place.
Narkodas 2 years ago
would you recommend this over the Nikon D90?
spongebens 2 years ago
It's pretty even. See which accessories you like the most, and look at the options available for each camera. Look at example photos because the cameras shoot different styles, choose the one that best suits your need.
sciences8 2 years ago
just got my 50D today!
cannot compare nikon and canon
its like metric and imperial
both useful and get the job done
however the 50D is in a different class than the D90
you get way more bang for your buck with canon
its a steal, trust me
alienstar3434 2 years ago 13
Lucky dog......
Yeah, the 50D seems more durable, or more like a Tank compared to the D90.
ThePoet4Life 2 years ago 2
I was looking at the 500D Rebel/T1i but after seeing them both in real life (and holding them), the 500D Rebel/T1i seems like a child's toy in comparison to the 50D.
The extra size and weight are well worth missing out on 1080p 20fps video recording IMO.
3Z3K13L08 2 years ago
It is a photo camera, not a video camera... I doubt the video functions are as great as everyone hopes/thinks. Besides, the video does not autofocus.
It's just as a cellphone, those camera's aren't horrible (on some phones), but they won't do 'the job' when you really want to either.
Narkodas 2 years ago
the nikon D90 is in the same class as the canon xsi 450D ---/--- the nikon D300 is in the same class as the canon 50D (which are the top, crop sensor models)
sasktank 2 years ago
This is true and useful info. It all comes down to personal taste, Canon or Nikon. The argument has been going on for countless years now!

I'm saving up to buy this thing, this had some good info in it.

it's pretty good much better than average. Most of there cameras get around 90%

so why so low?? so have they downgraded?

no. I think that what digital camera just feels that the camera is just too much money for what you get.
