@FIXER3three - "note for note" is not accurate. There are similar themes, chord structures, etc., and "Burning Bridges" is credited in the booklet as "inspiring" the song. But it obviously isn't "note for note"... that would make it a cover song. Pink Martini has inserted delightful elements, like the Tchaikovsky piano concerto theme, too!
Simply mesmerising performance by Storm....saw her in Newcastle UK with Pink Martini and was blown away by her talent and beauty. She feels every single word she performs, quite a unique storyteller....never ever seen a better girl singer in my life....world class..!!!! It doesnt get any better than this....Long live Storm Large.
@FIXER3three Good ear! I caught the same thing. Fact is for me, Pink Martini is an incredible group and "Burning Bridges" is one of my favorite movie themes ever. So, I'm giving them a pass. :-D
I think China is fantastic and all, but the depth and the emotion that Storm puts into this song is something so incredibly powerful... It's almost a religious experience hearing her sing this song. It totally changed my train of thought and there is something so real in her voice and how she sings it that it just makes China seem almost boring. This song, with this singer, is a masterpiece. In my opinion, this is the very pinnacle of their catalogue. Breathtaking. Awe-inspiring.
EXACTLY WHY has she not been the star of a Broadway musical?
The shit they put on, on Bway, crap that closes two weeks after opening, with vile, ambitious little assholes coming and going & money burnt for nothing -
Pink Martini, you're just the best ! I was at the Paris show then at the London one and it was so good. Thank you for bringing such high quality and fabulous music. Come back soon to Europe. We love you !
Saw Storm Large in Newcastle on Monday.I was a bit apprehensive at first but the show and Storm were first class.Count me in as one of her fans, what a personality, voice and stage presence.Hope she does some recording with Pink Martini
I like this song. The lyrics are well worth studying. Poignant. It reminds me of a Glen Campbell/Jimmy Webb song, I think it was called One Too Many Mornings (I'll have to check). People keep asking whatever happened to great music. It's still there, you just have to look for it. This is exceptional and reminds me of the much missed Cass Elliott.
Was trying to remember what memory synapses this triggered and then I remembered "Kelly's Heroes." This version is beautiful and Storm Large is amazing. Thank you for sharing.

Nice song, best one on the album! Why don't PM do a live album of all their best tracks with a mix of Storm and China?
Storm went down a storm in Liverpool, bucketloads of style and charisma, best show I've seen in ages
