@cvbbot God loves you, and Jesus Christ is the way to Him. Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the 3rd day so that whoever believes in Him will be saved from Hell and have eternal life in Heaven. Call upon the Lord Jesus Christ in faith and believe on Him for eternal life.
@zenpharian well they might take the knowing the future into the calculation but that would just stick them in an infinite loop cos you add it that changes it add it because it's a new future witch makes a new future and so forth
@EdibleLighterFluid no they don't, compare this short to anything pixar has produced and it becomes apparent that pixars wealth of imagination and talent will forever succeed beyond what these guys can accomplish.
it is impossible to determine a child's future from birth, we all make do with what we are given and if we are given a dying decrepid world would we not want to correct it? perhaps she was creating a new world order to enter into a new millenium of peace and understanding, but the system distorts our view and causes us to make fol judgements, it tries to bring us down before we can even get up, it keeps us from reaching our true potential, it keeps us forever working but never accomplishing
mankind is a creation of god, and god is a creation of man, but they are both failures, how can people believe in a god when there is so much injustice in the world. and how can people be regarded as the ultimate species on earth when they destroy anything in their path, think about it, all of god's so called creations were failures, if that is so then god itself must be a failed creation
also see how the father chose to refer to his daughter by a name and not a number, we are human beings, each with their own distinct traits and personalities, not numbers, do not just group us into files in a cabinet, there are endless worlds of possibilities surrounding each and everyone of us, we are not products for use or consumption we are individuals
did anyone else notice how the option to accept the child was red and the one to refuse was green, in our minds red brings anger, and green brings peace, is that what our society wants of us? to refuse a life, a child, a future because of what they might do? discarding it like a flake of dead skin
I would hope such technology would never come to exist; the point of a parent is to teach their child to control their violent urges, such as the ones displayed in the simulation. Besides, any number of factors can come completely from left field that could change her. What if she only became a villianess because people heard of her stimulation and TREATED her like a bad girl? No, to determine the fate of a person depending on what they MIGHT do is not fair or right in any way.
@Michb3ck Wow that certainly sounds like a good reason not to watch a great piece of work! Keep it up and all you'll ever see will be sit coms and lousy movies!
It's unfortunate this isn't, and probably never will be, a full-length feature. Movies these days, at least in the U.S., are just getting less and less worthwhile (with exceptions here and there, of course). The industry needs more ideas like this.
I hate the fact that this is a short film. I'm really interested in finding out whats going to happen about this girl and her family or father. FUCK! This looks like it would be a good or at least interesting movie.
Franchement, chapeau bas.
Just great. All about destiny/written future, free will and love.
Is our free will and the choices we will make already encoded in our genes and can we go beyond our genes ? Are the choices we will make (whatever they may be) already know from those who can come from our future and can help us make the better ones ? Mind disturbing for sure, but great =)
Actually, this is very relevant to this age, when modern medicine allows us to manipulate lives of children very much. Did you notice that "Refuse" button at the end had nice, positive, green color? It's just like in reality, when women are often encouraged to give up their child for no good reason. Children are endangered species in our culture...
@eric76ss Yes, but if you were to go back to the 90s, were 3 D animation was still in its infantcy, the amout of effort it would take to create such a movie hails in no comparision to the sweet and tears it took in the 90s.
Now was it worth it? A simple, yet complex film in 1995 who came by the name of Toy Story, brought $361,948,825 in to the box office. Was it costly? at around 30million it was. However, the cost was well worth its sacrifice. Im sure the students at Vancover are competent.
That French narrator sounds like she should be working for Air Canada. Brilliant work nonetheless! I really like the little touch at the end where the accept button was orange while the reject button was green.
The simulation doesn't take into account what social interaction and the love of others might do. Notice how he wanted to reach out to the child and couldn't. She might turn out very different because the simulation doesn't consider what the influence of others and love might have on a person. He made the right choice. No one is born evil. In fact I get the possible dark under current tha these 'simulations' are a form of population control, scaring people into giving up their children.
brilliant analysis, however you missed a point for me. Friends' influence on you, to be a teenager is experience things , sometimes good ones but for most part bad ones, alcohol, sex without protection, drugs etc.
In that case I would say when the "Evil Roots" start to grow at 4:04, she met the wrong people at the wrong moment. so she became the new Adolf Hitler, however if the Academy of Fine Arts of Vienna didn't reject him, Hitler would have been only an unknown painter.
Maybe the moment the father gets close and touches the screen (possibly affecting the simulation somehow) is a metaphor for the influence adults have on children...
Maybe all will be well if Daddy teaches her to not touch that root of darkness/evil in the first place? It seemed like when she touched it, it became active. Maybe if she doesn't touch it at all, it will remain dormant?
She might've asked him to chose because she carried the baby in her womb, maybe even 9 months and is afraid she would not bare the momment of chosing if her daughter was going to live or die.
Or maybe she had post-partum depression or died during childbirth. Who knoes?
A lot of short films have a simple concept. I'm not saying they couldn't make a movie out of it, but it would take a whole lot longer. Plus, if they make short films, they can make a lot, rather than just one. I don't know if these are the reasons why they don't, but they might be. Also, a lot of people do short films to test new skills they've learned and stuff like that, just to try stuff out.
@manicania I understand that, and you do make valid points, but a simple concept can become an extravagant movie, such was the case for Call of Duty: Black Ops.
this would be awesome to make an acutual movie out of. kinda like make it to where her mother dies at birth and then her father later tells her the future of what happens to her.
they could make a movie out of this.. a game.. a tv show... scary thing is that in some future we'll have the technology to have some prediction of how our babies will grow and the choice to "make" babies the way we want.
I think this video had a really good message. I really enjoyed it. I suppose it goes towards the nature vs nurture debate. Truly a proper nurturing and loving environment could prevent such naturally violent characteristics, couldn't it? The power of love and paternal instincts can overcome even the most horrific of circumstances. I find it all very introspective and touching. : )
Things like these make me want to slap upside the head people who say that Hollywood's done everything. Just use your freaking brains instead of making book adaptations all the time!
mmm... interesting idea... i just think compared in the real life it would be not as acceptable, parenting IS a big issue, not only genes command people, but IT IS a great theme for a sci-fi movie, loved it, absolutelly will see it if it goes to the theathers
While not as visually diverse and interesting as some of the others from this user, the story, subject, and presentation put this among the top of the many short films I have seen over the years.
5 stars and high anticipations of future work from the development crew.
This video showed me the joyful innocence of a child, and while I was being so emotionally moved, it took me to a dark and warlike future. I haven't felt this much in years.
Production personnelle?
with some much power of creation, it only natural that the idea of 'that which you can create you can destroy."
I like this animation a lot. it plays on a parents fear that their child will grow to be monster. jet still they love and will do all they can to raise their child right :3
Awesome idea. Abstract to a point where suitable for most audience to understand. Will there be a second animation about that baby growing up in reality>?
Wow, impressionnant.

Things like these make me want to slap upside the head people who say that Hollywood's done everything. Just use your freaking brains instead of making book adaptations all the time!

The part where she help the trees grow is obviously inspired by My Neighbor Totoro.
Which is awesome.

Two things went through my mind while watching this amazing animation.
1. I for some reson was thinking Anakin to Darth vader only female through the whole simulant part.
2. I would sooo watch this if this were a show or anything of the sort.

mmm... interesting idea... i just think compared in the real life it would be not as acceptable, parenting IS a big issue, not only genes command people, but IT IS a great theme for a sci-fi movie, loved it, absolutelly will see it if it goes to the theathers

While not as visually diverse and interesting as some of the others from this user, the story, subject, and presentation put this among the top of the many short films I have seen over the years.
5 stars and high anticipations of future work from the development crew.

incredible. the animation and story were both extremely high quality. Its really a shame that this kind of stuff rarely hits the street. amazing job.

I think the question also remains; what would the parent also turn out to be like?

The other question lies. What kind of parent would he turn out to be?

Amazing. That's just amazing. It really made me think, powerful film. Just amazing.

What a fairy world, that's beautiful even if she's so violent after

Wow, impressionnant.
