@onepiecefan74 Well, yes. But at this point, that would come as a genuine shock due to his being ignored in the DGA nominations (and "Tree of Life" in general being overlooked otherwise). I have a feeling it's gonna be one of "those" films they talk about years hence having been so wrongly ignored. Thanx for watching & writing in :)

True. But didn't the Coen Brothers get a nomination for true grit last year with no DGA Nomination. As did the director for the reader in 2008. I think if there's to be any dark horse in the director category it will be Malick.

@onepiecefan74 Good point :) Tho I think with True Grit the Coens were a bit less of a surprise because they rode a wave of many other nominations for the pic (and it was included in the PGA, if I remember rightly, while Tree was not.). I (Irv's camera guy and your humble correspondent) would love to see Malick get the nod. It just seems the tide is not exactly with him (or the movie, for that matter). Perhaps its token nom will be for cinematography.

@anythingplusmore Because? It would be nice to see Brooks get nominated, but since he didn't make the SAG cut, the odds aren't with him. I think Max Von Sydow and Robert Forster might not get nominated. Instead I predict Jonah Hill in Moneyball and Nick Nolte in Warrior

The Tree of Life will NOT be nominated for best picture. And I'm not saying that because I didn't like it. Personally I think it's the best of the year, but it's not getting any buzz. And buzz leads to nominations.

@howherCHESTwaswon Another sign "Tree..." may be (I think) wrongfully overlooked is that it turned out NOT to be among the movies that made the Producers Guild list of nominations--always a good predictor of Best Pic noms.

@22smosh My guess (without having seen the movie yet) is that Oldman's performance is likely based on much subtlety and not so many grand gestures, which would be much less likely to attract Academy attention. Oldman's a terrific actor tho. One of my (Irv's producer) favorite Oldmans of recent years was his terrifically outrageous turn as the baddie of "The Fifth Element."

@harrybluetooth123 wouldn't that be interesting, esp. after the Golden Globes snub. I like when comedy gets recognized (I'm thinking mostly about Kline winning for Fish Called Wanda many many years ago), but I wonder if the lack of the Globes recognition is going to hurt her chances. I have had a strong hand on War Horse ever since March when I first heard about it, and i still do, considering the Spielberg War Epic Legacy, but I'm not oblivious to the idea that the Artist is a very heavy contender, especially with the pattern the Academy has shown in the past 2 years it is very likely for a powerhouse struggle between the two throughout the award season. Of course, this is no more than prediction based on other critical reviews for I won't view either until after Christmas.

this guy must of hated Drive because Brooks in that film was spectacular and might even win for best supporting actor. Also, the directing in that film was superb. Apparently in one of the film festivals, the audience stood up and applauded for 15 minutes for it's phenomenal direction.

@redber16 You may have missed the earlier comment exchange with MrG, but as I mentioned there, Irv was smacking himself for forgetting about Brooks when he was setting up his predictions. He gave (as I recall) a slightly mixed but favorable view of Drive, with special praise reserved for Brooks' work. You can find Irv's review of it on our channel. Thanx for watching & writing in :)

Most of these are pretty accurate. I dont think woody Allen or Tate Taylor will get a nomination though. I hope Terrence Malick will. I guess you don't think The girl with the dragon tattoo is a contender. Christopher Plummer is a psychotic villain in that so maybe they will even nominate him for that movie. And the girl from bridesmaids doesn't have a chance.

@raffums99 Perhaps you see Fincher taking one of the director slots instead? I (Irv's producer) definitely can see Malick getting a nod, but I wonder if it would be in place of Taylor rather than Allen. I think the Plummer "Beginners" pick might be the surest thing going into Oscar guessing this year. Thanks for watching & writing in! :)

@sharpshooter6666 As I mentioned to Ivanatis, I (Irv's prod'r) would be surprised to see his name appear in the Oscars, given his recent hi-profile "Nazi" remarks. I find the whole thing to be so much silliness, but I also have little doubt he may find himself further marginalized because of it.

I agree on most predictions. Streep will be really hard to beat this time, the only I could see pulling it off is Close if her movie turns out good. Same situation in the Best Supporting actor category, Plummer with a possible upset by von Sydow. The other 2 acting categories, I have not much of an idea, maybe Clooney and Spencer (easily my pick from Bridesmaids). Best Picture/Director seems to go to the same film usually, so I'd go with Spielberg and War Horse on this one. But it's all vague.

@Ivanatis The interesting thing about the Best Actress race now is that there could be two "actor playing a real person" nominees this time out, with Streep (as Thatcher) and Michelle Williams (as Monroe), so will those cancel each other out and allow Viola Davis to take the prize? @MoviesUnlimitedInc I'm not so sure about Williams getting in. Maybe it will hurt her chances that she scraped in last year. But then again, I havent seen MwwM yet. My predictions would be Streep, Davis, Olsen, Swinton and Dunst, maybe Mara for Dunst if Fincher's Dragon Tattoo turns out good.

I thought Chris Plummer was really good but I do not think he deserves a nom. Like I Said he was great but I Personally think there were better perofrmances. ARMIE HAMMER?!?!?!?!? He was good but in my opinion was not utilized to his full ability. No Albert Brooks IRV?????? I'm shocked you didn't choose him. I Think Brooks will probably win. my favorite actor in a supporting role was JGL In HESHER. SO UNDERRATED. But Great video nonetheless Irv.

@MrGMovieReviews I just shouted that across the room to Irv and he let out a "Ohhh, that's RIGHT...." So I think Irv is now shocked he didn't choose him either :) I asked and we've all missed seeing Hesher so far--was JGL (who plays title role) really a supporting or would he be the lead? Remember of course on his full lists Irv is predicting who he thinks will get nominated (not necessarily SHOULD, like his MMMMarlene mention). Thanks 4 watching as always MrG!
