@neverland1984 Anybody understand what this idiot was trying to say with his broken ass typing? LOL! (But real world let's see what you can do?) (Youtube Fire Fighters?) Does Youtube have a fire department now? HA HA HA!
@Ghstwn sadly your reply to him is just as stupid, If not more so.... @gsarjos Absoultely brilliant response! How could I ever hope to recover from the overwhelming & character crushing word force you laid on me with calling me that!? I'm destroyed. LOL! Carry on. ;)
Ladder trucks don't carry a lot of water. Some none at all. If he was first on scene. Then they can use what they have untill another truck arives and hooks up to them and relay water from the hydrant. Cause most ladders can't hook up to hydrants.
every "move the car" or "y isnt there an interior attack" comment made on this video are ovbiously made by careless firefighters or probies without experience. just in the first 10 seconds of this video, size up should result in an exterior attack. through the roof, and fire on the entire first floor... u want to go inside? have fun killing or hurting your guys. excellent job WHFD from a northport FD lieut. ur priorities were in place and im sure u all got home unhurt.
and just as a timestamp. @ 1min exactly, the 1-2 corner bedroom im going to guess ground floor window there are flames in... the entire first floor was engulfed. .. good call staying out.
Who would be stupid enough to not move the tan color car in front of the building? If that was my car, I'll move it out the way. Perhaps the owner of the car got trap inside the burning house???
@xxxH22VTECxxx Let me drive home in my second car. Go in and get the keys from the counter. Oh wait I can't go into the fire. But The car needs to be moved. Ok I guess my insurance can cover it. Thanks.
Perfect movie idea- tape a bunch of REAL firefighters (not like Back Draft or Ladder 49) putting out REAL fires (that aren't controlled like practice fires or movie fires). I bet that would get a lot of people to watch it.
Long before we had all the fancy new toys we have now we were putting out fires like this on. a 2 1/2" line with an 1 1/4" tip at 50 pounds NP flows 320 gallons per minute. That would easily put that fire out. If I were the officer on that Truck Company and it took my crew that long to set up and get water I would be embarassed. Training Officer how about working with them to bring up their efficiency.
@toxickavenger By the looks of that quint, they may only HAVE 300 gal or less to play with... And they are hand stretching 5" hose to boot. I agree- this is a 2.5" fire, not a 1.75... The roof has partially collapsed in the 1/4 corner, and is already through the roof, big time. Unless someone's in there, there's no real reason to go in- until the fire is knocked down. This house is toast.
Looks like they did a great job to me. It could'nt have been easy with a very gusty wind blowing like that. I'm not a firefighter and would never pull a firefighter to pieces cos maybe one day that firefighter could be saving your life!!
im so sick of people putting down firefighter its easy to sit here and look and point out what these guys are doing wong but its not so easy to be out there doing it there is so much more to firefighting than just putting water on it you was not there you have no idea what the whole scen looks no way is my guys going in that this is a brother hood be supportive good job my fellow brothers keep up the good work and be safe
@Dutychief Not if they wanted to keep out of the collapse zone. The house is gone. why burn the paint and lights off a $700k + tower ladder for a lost cause? It's got plenty of reach for master stream usage, or to grab folks out of windows on at least 2 sides if need be. No vertical venting is needed- the fire already did that!
Considering the MONEY in the Hamptons, this is the best fire protection they can get??? Total lack of proper deployment. Notice the consistent backdrafts and flashovers. It is obvious that the department does not know how to properly use the equipment it has.
If the 1st arriving unit saw this on hand, then this is an obvious defensive attack, nothing to really salvage here in a fully engulfed, through the roof fire...should have used that aerial piece as soon as possible, secure a water supply, and just drown the sucker with the master stream and basically have some handlines just protect exposures....done deal, take a shower, and go home
its not even worth a response dude. if anything its risks vs. benefits. all people out? house fully involved? defensive attack. nuff said. dont need any fire cowboys trying to prove themselves
@rescue217, You are a total piece of shit and have the wrong attitude for this job. Half of that building could have been saved if scum like you had the balls to save it. I once was able to give a little girl back a doll house that her papaw made her just before he died. Saved her room and the master bedroom just by going in a pushing the fire away from the unburned house. These are peoples lives and memories not just a pile of hot wood. Grow some balls and quit being a lazy, disrespectful bitch.
@tubesteakdynamo I'm with you buddy, I did this for 32 years and boy if I responded like that when I turned up at an incident II wouldn't last five minutes.
They don't fight fires any more, we pussyfoot around playing big hero's claiming health and safety. WHY because they don't understand FIRE / STRUCTURES and how they work.
most likely wasnt reported until people saw fire coming out the windows since it seems like the house if farther off the road. may be in a remote location so response time is high, lot of content in the house that cuased it to spread quikly...we had one of these the other day
well, how was I to know that a christmas tree lit up? and no, a flashover is when EVERYTHING in the room lights up at once, and there is no way in hell that that can happen in 30 seconds. It takes at least a few minutes
It appeared that the ladder personnel had a difficult time directing their main stream at the burning dwelling...it actually looked like they had three streams going at once, with most of it on the car.
@Hotshot679 I saw that, too. Made me wonder just how many nozzles that bucket has in it! I'm sure that was pointed out later on... I see this on pics of tower ladders a lot- a stream of water flowing out the bottom. Is there a relief valve there, that's open? ( there to protect the waterway if they retract the ladder. Water is non compressable, and a retraction of the ladder could destroy the piping if the water has no place to go)
they would do a interior attack but from a side of the house that is not burning and blow it out the other side my dad told me that and he is a fire fighter in malone
@adaml73, Damn Right! I'm sick of all these videos of pussies just watching peoples lives burn away. Here in California we actually go in a put fires out. And someone needs to teach these guys about fog and semi-fog, a wider spray puts more water over a greater surface and knocks more fire out. Fire burns up, so semi-fog the base of the fire to knock most of the heat off and take away the "food", but these guy are hard streaming into the top of the fire and doing nothing.
@tubesteakdynamo if your a firefighter it sound like your in it to be a hero, i hate to say this but with that state of mind you will not live long in this business. Firefighter who try to be heros die the ones who think before they leap become the heros this house was beyond saving.
@fireguy95971 < I'm not in this to be a "hero", I'm do this because this is where God told me to be. I do because you don't. If you look, you'll see the wind is at their advantage, they could have gone in through the side not on fire and pushed the fire back into itself, get in that front door and shoot that water at the hottest part of the fire. You got BIG fire feeding little fire. Get inside and kill the big fire while pushing the fire away from the unburned structure.
@adaml73 The roof has already started collapsing. Who knows what's going on inside. Sending crews inside those conditions is foolhardy, and a great way to get someone killed. The unburned to burned rule does not take into account the protection of stairways to the upper floors. @pyroman6000 You are right the truck has 300 gallons of water. You are not going to put guys in this when it is through the roof, for what? If you saw the back of the house you would see it was fully involved. It was a 1400' stretch of 5" to get a supply to this flag lot. The engine is in the other driveway to the right. The water on the bottom of the tower is to protect it and drain out the waterway.

Yet another demonstration (as shown in hundreds of You Tube videos) of how antiquated US firefighting practices are.....
@MaxLV look at all that fire on the roof if you knew anything about firefighting is that when fire gets to the roof it spreads really fast and the the building more likley to collapes the front door is fucking blocked by a wall of fire and 1 minute into the fire you see fire shooting out of the all windown on the A side of the building which means its extending to the back real fast and this fire 3x in size in less that 6 minutes
bunch of arm chair firechiefs here whats taking so long!? get that tower up in position charge that line and let it fly whats taking so long, if you wanna be like that dont even bother cuz its to late to save anything now ya bunch of lugnuts
Well First MORON< they were spraying water so the car would not go up, have you heard of Extream Heat that will melt the paint on the car and started on fire, your fucking stupid. Now for the Fire Dept. Great Knock down leave it to us Yankees to take what a Redneck fire company would have let burn to the ground as a total loss, AWESEOME Job and Great Video.
Great knock down?? a fog would have gone alot farther than the straight stream and they DO need some drills on the ladder truck, for one getting water to it and knowing which valve runs which nozzel and thetcar was the last thing they were thinking about! and it IS a total loss
First off where do you live and why I'm asking is because, up here in the North we have to leave all the Valves Open so they don;t Frezze, and they were sparying the car, call them and ask, say something and you really don't know what your talking about, it was not a total lose, it did not burn to the ground. Walls were still standing and can be re-built.
I noticed a few things, first, the video looks like it was moments after they arrived, the tower's legs weren't even out yet (that's what the beeping is for); a car fire can be dangerous (they have gasoline in them from time to time!), and the rear of the car is facing the tower, so yeah, keep the car from catching is good. Also side A & B are fully engulfed it looks like, and it's self venting... this is a defencieve (sp) fight only. Oh, and the LD isn't charged untill the tower is in place..
gosh, they spent more time standing around than actually fighting the fire

Looks like the ladder crew is gonna need some additional drills on spraying water on the fire and not on the car below?
