"Pantherophis obsoletus" - a ratsnake (sometimes listed with the old genus and species name, Elaphe obsoleta). As for the subspecies, I'm pretty sure it's a Texas Ratsnake (P. o. lindheimeri). They eat rodents, are non-venomous, and have relatively small teeth so they wouldn't hurt the dog even if they bit it.

For the LAST time, this is a GRAY RAT SNAKE, Elaphe obsoleta spiloides.

I am 100% positive that this is a Gray Rat Snake. Either way, it's some sort of Rat Snake, which is about as deadly as an acorn- no venom here, folks.

People who are claiming this Colubrid snake is a python obviously have no idea what a freaking Boid looks like.

It is most likely an intergrade of Gray Rat/ Black Rat/ etc.

I myself owned a few Gray Rat Snakes, and I have seen several individuals that have darkened immensely with age. I know there is no way this is 100% Gray Rat, but I'm not going to go into details with people like you see around us on youtube that can't tell a Rat Snake from a Mamba, y'know. XD
