There's a school in my city that has a Simplex 4010 system, but it doesn't have voice-evac; it is tied into an old Simplex 4208 panel from the 1970s and controls all the newer duct detectors in the building. The alarms are mostly Simplex 4051 horns on 4050-80 light plates
The main public library in my city has a Simplex 4010 system with 4003 voice-evac JUST LIKE THAT, except it has TrueAlert speaker/strobes instead of Wheelock speaker/strobes.
I WAS THE SAME WAY WHEN I STARTED MY FIRE ALARM COLLECTION.i thought a horn/strobe was just some thing that went woop woop woop (pause) woop woop woop
Supervisories are when the panel is programmed to alert the end user that something in the system (smoke detector, waterflow switch, etc.) requires attention or is abnormal. Some panels, like the 4010, can be programmed to issue a supervisory when a smoke detector reaches a certain sensitivity threshold so somebody, alerted by the panel, can check it out without having to evacuate the whole building. Normally when part of a system is disabled, it just indicates a trouble.
??? A waterflow would cause an alarm. A tamper switch is used to monitor whether or not the water is actually turned on to the sprinkler system. One causes a fire alarm. One causes a supervisories. I have never seen a waterflow programmed as a supervisory and only a lousy AHJ would allow that.
The "secret device" under the annunciator is a remote microphone that's for the 4003 voice panel. When the "ready to talk" light is on, it allows you to talk, while pushing the button on the side, through the speaker/strobes during, and no during an alarm. That way, during a false alarm, you can explain to people the situation.
I don't think he wanted that really said... because he said "SECRET DEVICE", even some of us know what it is, he didn't want other people to know what it was... so.... yeah.
I'm serious, I don't mess with public fire equipment. The only reason I'd EVER pull a fire alarm is if there was a REAL fire. I did have to once, some electronics in a store overheated and caught fire, so I had to pull the alarm. The owner thanked me for pulling the alarm, he claimed that it saved everyone in the building. There wasn't much damage done, just a burnt up PS2, broken small 13" TV, and the station for it caught fire too, but it's ok now.

I thought an annunciator was a remote way to acknowledge reset ECT. like on a panel but only the buttons and the alerts

Supervisories are normally caused by sprinkler tamper switches.

Like I said, WATERFLOW SWITCH.

Right, I've seen supervisories set on just about everything, from waterflow devices all the way to duct detectors.
weathermaniac1 3 years ago
That's interesting, PandawdyBob. Are you an inspector?
coffeeandsugar20 2 years ago 2
Nah. A friend of mine is an inspector for White Water Sprinkler in Kansas.
