star trek as been a good part of my life i started watching star trek the next generation in 1987 no matter what star trek show or movie i will always look up to the sky and wounder would we have the technolagy to buld a warp drive
I will agree that Voyager was the closest to the real thing. But as others have also said, the French Horn was the most important part of most of the Star Trek themes...and they kind of blow in this band. It sounds like, and having been in an High School band I should know, most of the kids liked the Voyager theme more so they saved their 'oomph' for that part and didn't try hard enough on the other themes.
They're pretty good, but some of them aren't the great. Particularly when only a few instruments are playing at a time you can hear several of them are heavily off key. Though that might be a result of the camera quality or echos.
GARRRRHHHH FRENCH HORNS..................The basses were the best though, you can clearly hear their superiority over the rest of the strings and the winds and i am not just saying that because i was one of them.
I heard this at the Spring Concert and I was ecstatic. My parents are die hard trekkies and so am I. I must have sounded like a total dork when I named each theme I recognized but I don't care. I left the concert with a big grin on my face.
To the SDUSD High School Honors Orchestra: well done on a powerful medley that musically took Trekkies "where no one has gone before" in honor of the new "Star Trek" motion picture that will be released in May. Keep playing what every orchestra of any size, amateur or professional, has played before. "Live long and prosper!"

Medleys like this are acceptable, but simplified arrangements of real works are NOT! This group did Carmen Suite No. 2 under Karen Keltner a few years ago and they are now doing simplified music. This is UNACCEPTABLE! Even the Honor Band did more challenging music when it should be the OTHER WAY AROUND! The good thing is that orchestras are much more prevalent than bands after high school, so it is good to encourage as many of these kids to continue playing after high school.
I was just complementing the SDUSD High School Honors Orchestra for performing "Star Trek Through the Years" in honor of the 11th "Star Trek" motion picture, which will be released on May 7th in Australia and New Zealand and on May 8th in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

You shut the hell up! The performance of this work was good and I dont object to them playing this work, but I serious object seeing them play the other simplified pieces. I played in the honor orchestra many many years ago and I hated playing simplified music. I find it beneath my dignity and I was extremely jealous to see the honor band do the more awesome, difficult and challenging stuff. It wasn't until I finished high school that I got to play real quality orchestral literature.

I'll do the typical petty thing and say that Lancashire Youth Concert Band play it better.

We have the opposite problem in our orchestra, fantastic (award winning) brass section, and a string section that has 4 good players...
