Something not many people pay attention to is the lyrics that he uses. He uses actual poetry like lyrics and you can tell he writes it himself because he feels every word of it and this song is absolute proof. Halfway through the song he actually seems like he's in agony almost like he's acting a part and so few people even comprehend such a thing as music anymore. Glad to see they stayed into what it's known as. They may not play as heavy as they used to but every smallest part has purpose.
@Requeium I understand what you are saying. I am a huge fan of Thrice. I am also a huge fan of logic, and your logic is a little bit twisted. One thing doesn't have anything to do with the other, proof of that are singers that sing other people's songs with a hell of a lot of feeling. Or pianists who play classical music for example. Listen to Valentina Lisitsa, she didn't write Beethoven, but plays with such passion that you would cry. They do make their own good compositions though! =D
Wow... this is really different from "The Artist in the Ambulance". Compare this to "Paper Tigers" and "Under a Killing Moon", what a stretch. I have to say Thrice is a very wide ranged group. And I have to admit that changing up your style is risky and theyve pulled it off sucessfully. I guess its just a bit of a shock to see them almost completely change. No more "Stare into the Sun", no more "All thats Left", "Deadbolt", or "Blood Clots and Black Holes". I need my hero music lol.
I like the idea of "hero music", but I don't think this, or any of the other tracks on the Beggars album fall Out of that category. This would just be a bit more solemn and contemplative look though the eyes of our imaginary hero. Definite tempo shift, same message IMO.
Youre totally false. If you listened the album more often then the three times you listened it, you would feel that work and the feeling behind this album. Its incredibly good, just needs some time to get into it.
This is their best album to date, hands down. I love their old stuff, but Thrice are one of the only bands who have actually grown as musicians and don't pigeonholed themselves to one genre.
I figured. "Circles" was somewhat inspired by Martin Luther. Thanks for the info though. Agreed, they're just like wine, they older the better. ^^ Cheers aye.
I remember when I first listened to Thrice. I was a 16 years old kid, and yet I was amazed by the depth of their music, compared to other bands that were on the same sack, if we may. Then, I went growing up and leaving a lot of bands, styles, and thopics behind. But Thrice has remained there, getting older and better, just like wine. I could say that Thrice has grown up with me, but it would be more real to say that Thrice has been a reason for me to grow up.

you guys need to lay off the drugs how the fuck can you think this sounds good for thrice? its pathetic how did they go from artist in the ambulance to this fuck slow depressing shit. this band is all teppei
Artist in the Ambulance was generic shit, they actually started to sound unique (and just as amazing) when they released The Alchemy Index and beyond.
It's called musical growth. Thrice is very eclectic, and It shows their true artistic ability to be able to pull of the intricacy of this album. Their old stuff is amazing, and so is this. I mean, if the style doesn't suit you, then that's fine...I can respect that. But at least appreciate the talent that goes behind creating ALL different types of music.
Artist in the Ambulance was good, but it was a bit...unoriginal if you will.
This album has more depth and more variety genre wise. They explore plenty of different styles in this album, and that's what is going to catch people's ears.
I bet it was. I couldn't make it. Heard Houston traffic sucked that night too. They'll be back through. Saw them with Deftones a couple years back...needless to say awesome show.
I love this album in the Lyrics and tone aspect of it all, but i still favor Vheissu most as it wasn't all about the lyrics, but had amazing beat and feel to every song, Not saying beggars doesn't... it just is an entirely differen't feel from vheissu. Easily said, Thrice is versatile and amazing.
No justification in suggesting that any Thrice album is better than any other
- they progress over time only so far as they move from one style to another. The only reason one would think this amounts to 'progress' is because the style correlates with what one 'enjoys' in musical form at a given time. that is, all Thrice albums are excellent and represent the best [apart from a few songs here and there] music that Thrice have made. do any of you actually read and understand Dustin's lyrics?
I'm assuming you ask if anyone understands the lyrics other than you because your name is GrandUltimateMe... All I have to say in answer to that question:
You read the sentence 'do any of you actually read and understand Dustin Kensrue's lyrics?' as a statement about my own understanding? I do not declare knowledge above and beyond anybody else'. I only elicit the idea that in attempting to give thrice's albums an ordinal order, people merely reject many notions inherent in the lyrics. Also, the origin of my username is nothing to do with elitism - you took offense and your 'counter'? merely regards the aethetics, not the meaning of my username.
My username originates from an xboxlive account I had, that I created when I was interested in Tai Chi, which translates to english as 'Grand Ultimate Fist'. Unfortunately this has too many characters to fit into the xboxlive username field, and so, me being me, shortened the name in the obvious way. Perhaps it could be argued it had something to do with the idea of 'competition' and 'egoism' as it signifies a certain belief in my own abilities at gaming
fav song on the album.. and i dont think you can even compare their recent albums with identity or artist they completely have a different feel and style
interesting same order for me but i like air over water, the sky is falling, daedalus, moving mountains, digging my own grave, and come all you weary have me quite sold
i didnt say that you had to be religious to understand it/ get it. you're completely right... but the lines are taken right out of the book of Job chapter 40. its just an observation....
why do people get so uptight when the religion bomb is written? seriously... not a big deal. sick band, sick song... religious or not
sfarid64 simply was explaining what he believed Dustin's influence for the song to be. He didn't say a damn thing about what anyone elses believes other then what Dustin's confessed beliefs were.
If you disagree, oh well. Do you really need a debate, pos reinforcement, or a tissue regarding what others think if your an atheist especially a new atheist type? Never understood that one.
what i mean is, they could of made a music vid for at least ONE of their songs from alchemy, didnt matter if the albums were uncomparable, and as a result their album sales were crap
why didnt they make any music videos for their songs.... they're gonna keep selling minimal albums if they keep doing that; its uncomparable how many albums they sold from Artist in the Ambulance than The Alchemy Index...
What I find profound in these men , is the humble way they perform. They always strive to be better, and their cause is most important to them. True Nobles of our time. True visionaries. They don't concern themselves in the vanity that so many people with talent succumb to. It's simply amazing.
Who cares if he's christian, or the whole band? The lyrics are so powerful and moving in a non religious way. They may be from the bible, but the bible is just a book. Thrice aims to express the idea of faith alone, not necessarily in a religion/god/etc. I don't think you have to be religious to enjoy Thrice or this song, as the lyrics aren't necessarily Christian, the music just expresses strong thoughts on humans.
Thrice has grown and changed so much over the course of the years, drifting through multiple different genres, often in each individual song.
Their lyrics are amazingly poetic and profound. Dustin once said that they did not do what they did for the fans, nor the money, but it was the direction they wanted to go with their music. If you don't like it, don't. Go put Vheissu back on shuffle. But I urge you to open your eyes and ears, and recognize amazing talent when you see it. In Thrice.
It's sad that my english is not good enough to understand every word :( But when I read the Lyrics I know what they are singin about and thats so amazing.
Thrice gets you thinking of not only how sudden your life may end but also of the enduring beauty of everything that is around us.
I like every Song from First Impressions till now.
Sure I miss the old shit but that is fuckin good too.
this song is exquisite, one of the best I've ever heard. Thrice continues to move in it's own direction regardless of what people think of them, and they continue to shine in every category under every style, maturing in every way. this just might be their best.
You should try seeing the album as a whole. Also, I was thinking about uploading the illusion of safety. But, once I heard this album, I just thought the lyrics and melodies (which are a little melancholic) were just really awesome.
I decided to upload this one.
