It is just common sense. Shayler was in good shape psychologically, and then suddenly after he began speaking of NPT he declares himself the messiah. The sudden change in his mental state follows immediately after several sessions he had with a "psychic". It's all just a little too pat.

as true as that sounds and could be, with him becoming more open to the public over time its inevitable that certain aspects of his personal life have also been brought to the forefront. With this in mind, and his seeking for spirituality however this could make him more susceptible to such mind control or whatever.
