Hey munchkin. No they can't. Please don't feel fear. That's what they rely on. You simply write a letter to their head office stating your address and tell them straight. 'I do not require a TV licence. Your implied right to access is revoked (meaning they can't visit) and that you will contact them, should the circumstances change'. They will send you a letter back telling you they will 'use other means to check' (more fear), which is crud. They have no means.
... Furthermore, you needn't answer the door anyway. They have to prove you use a TV, which they can't if you deny them access to your property, which is your right under law. I am living proof. I rang them first and then when I moved house, wrote them transferring the initial instruction to the new address. When I move again, the same process (a copy of the letter with new address) will be sent :) Hope this helps.
@MegaPoppadom Many years ago (when the mortgage rate went up to 16%) I got into trouble with these folks. I was hauled off to court, there were 4 other women there, all on the same charge (easy pickings) I was given a £100 fine, two women were threatened with prison and one, unbelievably, got a fortnight in Holloway. Apparently there are women serving prison sentences albeit only a week or two to this present day :-)
I'm sorry to hear that :( The courts are there solely to collect revenue and not in the business of providing justice, Munchkin. It's a sorry state of affairs. All I can tell you is my experience. I used to send their stuff back NCRTS and that made it worse, because they'd send more and even try to send morons with clipboards for intimidation. As soon as they know you will not be intimidated, the harassment stops. Not had one piece of spam through my door since. :)

'No Contract Return To Sender' written on the envelope and posted back to them. It doesn't work. A lot of people go around the tube telling others to do this and it's pointless. All it does, is make them send more and use the Postman to litter your letterbox. Plus, it makes people go out to Post Boxes, when it's unnecessary. Just out of curiosity, what happened afterwoods? ie. more visits? more letters? prosecution? A few years ago when I lived in a high rise, I got a visit from one of 'em. I didn't let him in, just told him to f**k off. I still got a summons through the post. Legal aid solicitor got the case thrown out through lack of evidence and solicitor told me that the best way to avoid prosecution is NOT to speak to them, just close the door 'cos there's nothing they can do by law.

People must also realise that tv inspectors DO NOT carry warrant cards, so.. if you own your house then effectively they are trespassing on your land and you can have them arrested, though it helps to do what you do and have camera ready for the evidence. I believe you can still have them arrested if you live in council (local authority) property and the tv inspector refuses to leave your door, again.. you need evidence for a successful prosecution of the inspector.

Believe me, when there isn't a camera on them, they can be very aggressive indeed. The guy I got was on the job 17 years and i STILL sent him away with his tail between his legs. For them to say that they are only doing their jobs is laughable. They get comission on everyone they manage to intimidate into an admittance of guilt...

Well TV broadcasting is a service and a business that costs money, if the BBC didn't collect it through a licence then they would have to advertise like the other channels. If they advertise then that money is on the products you then pay for, so you pay to watch TV either way. Your only option is get an OAP over 74 (not sure age) to live with you and have a fee licence, or don't own a TV and watch everything on Iplayer etc.

I've always thought it was unfair, that someone could simply be viewing ITV & other commercial channels, & never the BBC, & yet they still have 2 pay the licence fee. Having said that, the ad breaks on Sky & ITV/Channel 4/5 are more frequent & are about 5-6 mins long. Would u want that, on the BBC, as well?

You only require a TV Licence if you are : Watching a `Live Broadcast` or, Recording a `Live Broadcast` . You do not need to give " them" your name or, tell `them` if you have a TV , Video recorder etc. If you have told the Licensing Office that you "do not require a TV Licence` and they persist in sending you letters, send them back by writing on them " Return to sender, Junk Mail, Refused". Phone them up and say `I give notice that your implied right of access is from this day, removed` ..

I used to play about with these drones, then it stopped being amusing. I wrote to tham telling them that the.."implied right of access" to the block of flats is withdrawn, due to.."criminal types gaining access to said property for illegal purposes " (or something like that) They stopped visiting 7 years ago,but they still send horribly explicit hate mail , threatening dire consequences if I watch reruns of "Dad's Army" for the 19th time without a license !

I don't understand why people waste their time uploading this stuff any more. You simply write a letter to the TV Licensing and tell them their right to access is revoked and that you don't own a TV. I haven't been visited in two years and there is no need to make videos like this in order to gain subs. I think the truth movement is more intent on gaining fame nowadays than actually dealing with things the correct way. Do it properly, you won't have to keep talking to them

Hey munchkin. No they can't. Please don't feel fear. That's what they rely on. You simply write a letter to their head office stating your address and tell them straight. 'I do not require a TV licence. Your implied right to access is revoked (meaning they can't visit) and that you will contact them, should the circumstances change'. They will send you a letter back telling you they will 'use other means to check' (more fear), which is crud. They have no means.

... Furthermore, you needn't answer the door anyway. They have to prove you use a TV, which they can't if you deny them access to your property, which is your right under law. I am living proof. I rang them first and then when I moved house, wrote them transferring the initial instruction to the new address. When I move again, the same process (a copy of the letter with new address) will be sent :) Hope this helps.

@MegaPoppadom Many years ago (when the mortgage rate went up to 16%) I got into trouble with these folks. I was hauled off to court, there were 4 other women there, all on the same charge (easy pickings) I was given a £100 fine, two women were threatened with prison and one, unbelievably, got a fortnight in Holloway. Apparently there are women serving prison sentences albeit only a week or two to this present day :-)

I used to send their stuff back NCRTS and that made it worse, because they'd send more and even try to send morons with clipboards for intimidation. As soon as they know you will not be intimidated, the harassment stops. Not had one piece of spam through my door since. :)

'No Contract Return To Sender' written on the envelope and posted back to them. It doesn't work. A lot of people go around the tube telling others to do this and it's pointless. All it does, is make them send more and use the Postman to litter your letterbox. Plus, it makes people go out to Post Boxes, when it's unnecessary. I know people who have done that for months and soon get sick of it, as it's a waste of their time. Of course you can. I am happy to help :)

Just out of curiosity, what happened afterwoods? ie. more visits? more letters? prosecution? A few years ago when I lived in a high rise, I got a visit from one of 'em. I didn't let him in, just told him to f**k off. I still got a summons through the post. Legal aid solicitor got the case thrown out through lack of evidence and solicitor told me that the best way to avoid prosecution is NOT to speak to them, just close the door 'cos there's nothing they can do by law.

Excellent! People must also realise that tv inspectors DO NOT carry warrant cards, so.. if you own your house then effectively they are trespassing on your land and you can have them arrested, though it helps to do what you do and have camera ready for the evidence. I believe you can still have them arrested if you live in council (local authority) property and the tv inspector refuses to leave your door, again.. you need evidence for a successful prosecution of the inspector.

The Communications Act states that a license is required 'per person' that operates or installs a TV, a bit like a driving license. They make it look like it is the household that requires a license in general which is not the case. To prosecute someone they must actually catch 'an unlicensed person' red handed in front of the TV which is not going to happen unless they barge the door down and run in. If he needed to differentiate between acts, laws, the difference between a person and a human being he wouldnt be going door to door checking for a TV licenece. @wilsonnortheast the fact is dude i don't like being harassed in my own home by a corrupt corporation, and yes if he is claiming that i have to pay for a license because the "law" says then he should no what law , the fact remains that there is no law, just an act, so you go on paying your taxs, and tv license, i don't pay because i don't have to, if you want to wast your ignorant life geting fucked up the arse go ahead, but don't criticize me for Knowing my rights, i have a great life!!!!!!!

@wilsonnortheast Matey, the guy doing this is standing up for his rights. The man coming to the door may indeed be as you state doing his job, but come on get real. People need to take responsibility for the job they choose and choosing to be a revenue collector for the BBC Mafia isn't a smart move.
There is so much corruption going on that someone has got to have the courage to stand up against it, otherwise where will it all end?

We live in a world where people say "I'm just doing my job" well the time has come where people need to take on some additional personal responsibility and open their minds to the possibility that their job may have serious unethical repercussions. That's why exchanges like this are productive because it challenges moral and ethical standards. It asks people to question as to why we do have certain guidelines and in this case stipulations and as to whether they are fair,balanced and ethical.

@Veloce3 I know this is a late response but i completely agree with this statement. I had a similar encounter with a TVLA 'officer/agent' only a few weeks ago. Believe me, when there isn't a camera on them, they can be very aggressive indeed. The guy I got was on the job 17 years and i STILL sent him away with his tail between his legs. For them to say that they are only doing their jobs is laughable. They get comission on everyone they manage to intimidate into an admittance of guilt...

Well TV broadcasting is a service and a business that costs money, if the BBC didn't collect it through a licence then they would have to advertise like the other channels. If they advertise then that money is on the products you then pay for, so you pay to watch TV either way. Your only option is get an OAP over 74 (not sure age) to live with you and have a fee licence, or don't own a TV and watch everything on Iplayer etc.

@0ddba11s if you have a monitor at home then you need a lisence as it is capable of showing tv on it even a vcr with no tele connected counts ! we know it costs money but my beef with them is they own the uktv network uk gold dave alibi watch and so on they advertise all day on them channels and collect alot of money doing so , is this fair NO in a word they should collect money from us or sponsers NOT BOTH the beeb are laughing at all of us and mugs all over britain are paying!

@longrodvonhugendon I thought Dave & UKTV etc were independent and broadcast programs from all channels, didn't know the BBC owned them. However advertising pays for the channel doing the advertising not the ones that don't. As I say you pay for what you watch either way no free lunch in this world. If you have an OAP at right age TV licence is free.

@0ddba11s thats what they want you to think just type in uktv into google they own it with virgin media and therefor profit from it this isnt why the license fee was set up it was so we could have a quality channel with no adverts not to be spent on any other venture but they invest in allsorts its wrong and thats that!
