i dont think they looked any better back then with all the lighting effects and makeup they had to wear which was very very heavy. More to the point women looked better because they dont wander the streets behave like man hunting tramps with underwear on like they do today. Women then had classy way of dressing without resorting to slutty cheap made in china clothing!
It´s not Rita who sings, but rather a dubbing by the Cuban singer Mercedes Ruffino. The soundtrack was by the Spanish emigré Vicente Gómez, a great composer and guitar player himself, also the composer of this song.
Rita Hayworth, the most sensual woman ever lived!!! .... Yes, very, very classy lady, elegant, amazingly beautiful, but most of all, a wonderful human being. In spite of all her success, she had no ego at all. One actress who shared a scene with her told that she was intimidated, but Rita very kindly asked her to approach her as they were part of the same scene. She was a very, very loving person! What a great woman! Unfortunately, she was so unlucky in her personal life... I love her!
A true classic movie. They don´t make true classics anymore.I love Tyrone Power,he was a great actor and very handsome.Linda and Rita both look stunning but I like Linda a bit more in this movie.
When someone of Hollywood tries to say something in my language on screen, he/she sounds terrible & ridiculous - i.e. Brendan Fraser on Bedazzled - but this is the first time I've heard a perfect spanish song. Good job.
Rita Hayworth was at the peak of her beauty in the 1946 film,"Gilda." Her beauty was undeniable in this 1941 movie and her face seems to get more refined and thinner as time went on. Linda Darnell also looked better later in her career. Carol Burnett once said that she would spend her days at movie theatres watching double features and that Linda Darnell was one of her favorite actresses.
The woman were so beautiful back then because they weren't fake like these idiots called stars today =) And I do believe that Rita is a "Fine" example of a gorgeous woman. Pun intended...=)
Rita Hayworth was quite "A Dish." Too bad this era of movies is considered to tame for society today. The adult themes are there, but presentation was less brazen and much more civil than today.
Hola The name of the song is verde luna, and it was very popular in the forties. after time a lot of singers remixed. The realy singer was spanish o mexiacan Idont know exacly, and her name was graciela parrando
She's singing about herself, she's trying to seduce him. She says: The moon is my rival, green moon they call me (...) in my kiss I give the green flame ...

Ok, for those intersted, she spoke fluent Spanish and was born in Mexico. - True, born to an Irish father, I believe, & a mixed Mexican/Spanish mother. (All of Mexican are mixed races. Many look mediterranean) She was already singing and dancing in Mexico. Holiwood discover her great talents and there, "A star is born."
I don't think it was Rita who sang that song and play guitar : ( ! But yeah, I think she could at least little bit of spanish ! Her father was Spanish and Her mother was Irish, so.. : ) ! She's mixed-blood, and I think that's how she got that pretty and gorgeous look !
@mellow0w ---- ¡Qué estupidez, decir "mixed blood" refiriéndose a los españoles de España! Debes ser un ignorante y racista "red neck." Eres de esos americanos que dicen: "How should we go to Spain for holidays, if Mexico is just next door?"

No it wasn't Rita singing in this one. The studios wouldn't let her sing in her early career.
They felt being beautiful was enough. She took singing lessons and did her own singing
in the 50's. You should read her wiki page. Sad read i must warn you.
