how long is the piece of leather that you started with? it obviously shortens up as you braid, so for an 8" bracelet, you need a 10"(?) piece of leather?

@btil1 The "blank" we use is die cut and starts out 9.5 and shortenes to about 8 (thought that depends on the thickness of the leather and how tightly you braid it.) And how stiff the leather is- very stiff leather doesn't get braided as tightly.
