There is a difference between training a dog to perform a trick and getting him to respect you.
In training, you give positive reinforcement because u want him to see the trick as a favourable thing.
For respect, you show him you're alpha so that he doesn't dare bite, attack or disrespect you.
Cesar was raised in a farm surrounded by dogs. He's observed their behaviours for decades and took notice of how the 'alpha' of each pack acts and reacts to other dogs.
actually, positive reinforcement is for dog training, tricks, etc. What ceasar milan does is dog psychology, acting as the pack leader, etc. They both need different forms of training. Tricks work best with treats and praise, psychology works best if you treat them the way another dog would, and another dog would not feed them treats! They would give them a small bite or force them into a submissive position.
