Windows 7 and Linux Mint 10 KDE = Best Combo! I haven't gotten a Rogue yet... but I've been EXTRA cautious lately, even installing multiple security systems, it may slow down my PC, but MalwareBytes Pro is worth it. I was thinking of getting MSE too, though... Anyway, Mint 10 KDE for browsing, mostly for personal, and testing a download file, I.E Torrents, and Windows 7 is for gaming and other non-linux-compatible software.
I don't see why everyone seems to hate Vista I never had any issues with it. Windows 7 is better than Vista but Vista isn't nearly as bad as people say it is. Most of the issues people had with it were ID10T errors.
@35g70 It depends on your "Rig" as someone told me once was the name of it, if it's not high-end it'll crash a LOT, but if it's a low-end, and meets minimum specs, then it'll have a shitload of problems. I'd take XP over Vista anyday.
Ummm, Windows 7 runs EVERY XP game flawlessly. I've ran games as far back as 1997 on the machine. Starcraft and Drakan: Order of the Flame ran perfectly without the need for compatibility mode or any other patch or trick.
So don't talk stupid. XP is stone-aged. It isn't even capable of handling DX10 or 11, so unless you want to stay stuck in the past, you might want to consider moving on an upgrading.
@videogme your a damn idiot why would anyone use a shitty ass 6 year old OS that runs hardly any new games and then with linux why would anyone want to use a OS that has hardly any software?
none of my old progs run on win7 not ableton stuff not adobe stuff(bran new vers.) crashing all ove rthe place. New laptop, new OS new headaches. Expensiveones. i have a macbook pro, i want to run autodesk maya 2010 on windows 7. would it be better to run it with boot camp or VMware? thanks for your help, jeff
I used to have Vista on my MacBook Pro with VMware Fusion as well. It ran barely decent on its own, sucked in virtualization, and ruined my Vista license! Now I have Fusion 3 with Windows 7 Pro, no Boot Camp, and it works like a charm! (It might be that 7 is x64.)
can i use it for installing virtual machine with upgrade CD or has to be complete os cd
does win 7 works better with software is made for xp or vista would be better option
can use window 7 upgrade cd to do clean installation or i have to have vista already happen to back up partition on my drive would the upgrade erase that partition and do u think that partition would be useless for window 7
As far as I know the Windows 7 upgrade requires that you have Windows Vista installed, maybe you guys could help with the input but if you bought a upgrade DVD (CD is too small for windows 7) then you need windows vista to upgrade to windows 7 for me it was a long process but it was well worth it
why do you people follow this Living breathing Mac advertisement.

I know that but still Microsoft is stupid for having that enabled, believe me I have been using windows for years and I am not a mac fan boy in fact even started out on Windows 98, I like both PC and Mac, people call me a fan boy for using both but I don't care. In fact some windows elements such as screen capturing works better along with games but macs work well with music and I am guitarist/geek that loves it for music
i have been using vista as well since it came out, but i did tried the win 7 when i t was still beta, it the speed was just overwhelming, it was smooth and really nice, in comparision to vista is just much better and faster and will use your hardware much better as well.

I would love to have a mac and be able to do what I used to on my XP computer
Yes, I had PC-DOS 2.1 (the 2-disk 5.25" set) for my PCjr (yes, you heard right).
My jr had the infamous PC/jr compatibility switch on that double height Racore sidecar. I had a whopping 640K of Ram. That switch didn't do a bit of good. Only thing it did was switch from 40char to 80char display... Booting MS-DOS 3.3+ gave me multi-colored ascii garbage about 1/2 through the boot process on that machine.
I even wrote my HS term paper in Wordstar on a PCjr!
Holy crap man! well you beat me sir. i thought my 386 with 2 megs of ram was old school..... It had a turbo button on it though that bumped that babby up from 60mhz to 80.
My first computer wasn't even an 8088-based machine. I first had a TRS-80 Model III (1MHz Z80 with 64KB RAM and two 5.25" 360k floppy drives). I once programmed the cassette port to produce sound when connected to an amplified speaker (via an Z80 assembly routine).
I ran the beta version of win 7 in Virtual Box a few months ago and very responsive.
I'm debating buying win 7 for my desktop. I have an nForce4-based motherboard. I had issues with nVidia chipset drivers in vista x64 (particularly the sound driver).
Whose asinine idea was to come up with the sidebar in Vista? That was the first thing I disable when installing Vista! Win7's desktop widgets don't suck my CPU dry, unlike that sidebar.
I am in no means a fanboy, I use both Windows, Linux and Mac and you call me a fan boy I don't like Vista, I like Xp, Ubuntu, 7 and many other operating systems. Here is my case ALL OPERATING SYSTEMS HAVE ISSUES, Mac included. I love Technology So you could call me a tech fanboy whatever, I am not hear to fight about which one is better, I am just expressing my opinon. No Fighting or fanboyness intended.
I hate Windows 7. It's basically Vista with better security (supposedly) and and an ugly UI. I have it on my vista system in Virtual Machine and I hate it as much as I hated Vista when it first came out (if not more so). I will be waiting a long while before I switch my OS. Vista will probably become the new XP
Vista is fine, now - Years after it's initial conception. The whole reason Windows 7 is "great" is because it runs better than Vista does in its current stage.
Personally I've not noticed much change so far. It defiantly runs better than Vista did for me. I like that my laptop comes out from sleeping in literally 3 seconds. (Took 60 secs in Vista) Otherwise, it's the same old same old.
Microsoft needs to give everyone who was forced to have to suffer with vista a free upgrade to win7. I bought a new laptop from gateway and I was forced to have to use vista and when I called gateway to upgrade to win xp I was told they didn't suport XP and wasn't going to offer any suport or drivers. So microsoft needs to offer a free upgrade to win7 to anyone who was forced to suffer with vista.
I just installed Windows 7 yesterday after using XP forever. I love it. Very smart OS in my opinion, even just at first glance.
I bought Chris's Windows 7 ebook and am happy to show my appreciation with 7 dollars. This is an ebook you know is going to help you get more out of windows 7.
BTW, I got Windows 7 cheap through school. If you are a student, see if you qualify, and use the extra cash to buy the ebook!!
This is Josh, The whole point of dual booting with windows or using a virtual machine is program support. I think also for gaming as well, I like both operating system's. I do however like the way mac's run on my macbook pro the apple Os is far superior but program support is with Windows sometimes
chris, your a nice guy but nobody wants to buy your ebook mainly because your telling people not to buy 7 just yet, so why would anybody want an ebook they dont have the OS for?
The biggest issue with Windows 7 in Bootcamp right now it bluetooth. The trick is to uninstall the Apple bluetooth drivers, after installing "all" the Apple Bootcamp drivers from the Snow Leopard disk in Admin mode. This took me hours to solve, hope someone else benefits from my hard work. Oh and for less issues install the x86 version, not the x64 version : )
I have a strong PC so I never had any issues with Vista, while windows 7 offers improvement I rather not pay for the upgrade. I feel a little burned since Win7 is the final Vista release. I have Vista Ultimate, looking at windows 7 I would be more for the professional edition. Being able to emulate XP fully for backwards compatibility is a great feature. If I get Windows 7 it would be if I upgrade to an SSD though.
There nothing new in these videos, because there is nothing new in Win 7. The only thing they can say about it is, it doesn't suck as bad as Vista sucks.
I also think 7 does not freeze that often as Vista did. I also think its better than XP, and I love the new taskbar and the drivers that come throu Windows update :)
Yes but how much less often does it freeze then Vista? 50% less, maybe? If that was the case, it would mean that Win 7 sucks 50% less then Vista sucked? Does that sound about right?

Since you've had that w7 laptop for about 4 months now.
How has it worked for you?
Any virus, malware or driver problems?
Do you feel satisfied with it?
and finally
How do you connect to your PC?

There were a couple of driver problems but easily fixed.
I think it might have gotten a minor virus but I also got rid of the virus.
Either way W7 is perfect.

I liked vista after SP1 but IMO it was underrated but still...not vary good but i wouldn't say it was "bad".
archy9752 2 years ago

Can someone answer this? Whats the point of getting a mac, if your going to duel boot with windows?
rudewolf89 2 years ago
it looks good (?) lol
zagross16 2 years ago
because you cant dual boot mac OSX on a windows comp.
ianerick 2 years ago
This is Josh, The whole point of dual booting with windows or using a virtual machine is program support. I think also for gaming as well, I like both operating system's. I do however like the way mac's run on my macbook pro the apple Os is far superior but program support is with Windows sometimes

apple stated the 7 will be native on boot camp by the end of this year

chris, your a nice guy but nobody wants to buy your ebook mainly because your telling people not to buy 7 just yet, so why would anybody want an ebook they dont have the OS for?

Wait, BootCamp doesn't support Windows 7? I thought I read that it did. Or is it VMWare that I'm thinking of?
AbsalomPitchingfork 2 years ago

I guess these windows 7 things that are recorded a week ago are straight from the web cam that isn't HD. So don't worry.

I keep watching these videos... but I'm starting to wonder why. There's nothing new in these calls. It's just "Down with Vista - Long live 7".
Not to mention Chris keeps trying to sell something every other sentence. Coupons this, eBook that.
I like Chris/lockergnome, it's not that... it's just it's getting a little much for my taste.
Cimlite 2 years ago 2
There nothing new in these videos, because there is nothing new in Win 7. The only thing they can say about it is, it doesn't suck as bad as Vista sucks.

I also think 7 does not freeze that often as Vista did. I also think its better than XP, and I love the new taskbar and the drivers that come throu Windows update :)
igonnagetfsx 2 years ago
Yes but how much less often does it freeze then Vista? 50% less, maybe? If that was the case, it would mean that Win 7 sucks 50% less then Vista sucked? Does that sound about right?
an80sGuy 2 years ago
um, no. I dont think you get it.. It's not all about if its freezing or not...
igonnagetfsx 2 years ago
Oh I get it. Its also about new Taskbar and driver updates. The type of things Mac users take for granted.
