How do you get the video to take long videos? My sister has one and can only take a minute. She doesn't know the settings to increase the time. Thanks!
old superzoom camera, only now has superzooms been abit more popular. i Recommend the Fuji HS20 with 30x opitical zoom auto or manuel focus n sweeping panoramic as well as slow motion video
No kidding. And as long as you don't care about having the very newest model, you can get lots of great gear USED. All my Nikon bodies (F4, D1, D100, D2x), my Mamiya, my Canon XL2 and all my various lenses were bought used, mostly through Craigslist.
DSLRs are like 2, 3, 4x more expensive. You need bulky bags to carry multiple lenses. Nice lenses are extremely expensive and some cost half of a super-zoom. Constantly switching lenses will mean more chances of getting dust between lens and body.
I own a DSLR and more times than not, I bring my super zoom because I don't want to keep fidgeting around with that stuff. They can take near DLSR quality pics, assuming you're not a pixel nazi that views 10MP+ photos at 100%.
well quality, i cannot comment on; as i have a P80. before the P90 came out, i would say the P80 was the best point and shoot camera in the Nikon department. takes great pictures, and wonderful features. BUT then came along the P90, which is pretty much the same, the look exactly the same, except it it has a few more features, like a farther zoom, and a higher megapixel resolution. so yeah, go with the P90. i would imagine it's a fantastic camera.
This camera has a defect, simply switch it to sports mode and put it up to your ear and you will know, that is why NIKON introduced the P90, which will be out in March - 24X Zoom, 12.1mp. If you dont want either go with the SX10 which is a great camera. Im buying p90!
look even i am in the same dilemma ...i hav gone through various websites and hav met many people and most of the people suggested canonsx10 is bcz of da colors and image clarity also it has rotatable lcd which nikon p80doesnt have apart from that it has better image stabilisation mode than p80 although nikon p80 is relatively cheaper than canon but then y not go for a thing having better quality even if you hav to spend few bucks more .i thnk tht shud not b a big deal.
I'm buying this! And since i live in australia i can get it for really cheap, it only costs $300 australian dollars ($1 in australia = 50c in america) yay!! It seems like the perfect camera <3
go for it. ;) maybe i will upload some photo's to see... i have this camera from september 2008. i have over 7000 photo's. all types of photo's. enjoy!
always go with either Nikon, or their competition for NR.1 digital cameras in the world, Canon...never get anything else for photography...video cameras im not sure...
got it last night.... for any type of photography it's amazing. i got mine for 299 on sale.... i use it for skating so the continuous will be amazing. i also will use it for landscapes
same. i am 13 and i am way into photography. im getting it for the holidays and cannot wait to start taking pictures again... cause my sister smashed the screen of my other one...
D40 cause it is an SLR camera but youl still have to buy lenses. Still a DSLR takes better pictures and if you want to get in to phototagraphy get the D40,if you just take pics quick then get the P80 and if you want the vid mode. Hope this was helpful and not to late.
I know! I'm getting one for my birthday, about 2 months early actually. I'm not waiting till the 28th of december. How is the picture quality? i hear they are spectacular for a digital point and shoot.
Sure! warm colours, great zoom 18x, real 10megapixel picture, auto or manual focus, beautiful wideangle objective, best videos(high quality for youtube or tv), and the best system to shot face pictures! In my opinion is the professional solution to make beautiful pictures in a small space camera! buy it and.... happy birthday!!!
Well, you can't beat DSLR quality, however, for the price, this beats anything you can get in quality for a point and shoot with a larger lens. I say get this if you're looking to take great everyday pictures. I used my friends for some landscape and candid photos downtown and they're great shots! awesome quality for a starter to intermediate.
There's an error: the mic is not on the side of the camera, but in front of it, next to the flash button. On the side there's the speaker, for video playback
rami, if you were still wondering about the flash, I just got one today, and I was surprised at how bright the it was. I've never owned a camera, so I may not be the best judge, but it was a very bright light.
It can make videos for as long as the memory card can hold- 4 hours on 2 GB. It is not meant to be a DSLR, because that would be counter-productive. It has the same capabilities for photographers of all types, but some disadvantages.

The P80 a has higher resolution, 10.1mp to the S5's 8mp. P80 also has a bigger zoom range, 27-486mm while the s5 is only 36-432mm. The P80 can't manual focus unlike the S5 but P80 trumps it by being able to focus at 1cm compared 10cm on the S5. The p80 has continues shooting of up to 13fps, and a slightly bigger LCD at 2.7 inches. The P80 also weighs less at 405g to the S5's 550g. In short, the Powershot S5 is a pretty good camera but the Coolpix P80 wins on most respects with newer technology.
Thanks! I went to Best Buy to see the cameras and I am even more perplexed. I really like the zoom range of the Nikon and the color range of the images, but Canon is by far better than Nikon in respect to the functions (software). For example, it is not as fast as the Canon S5. I had a Canon S2 and I had trouble plenty of times with the focusing time. Now, the Canon S5 has amazingly improved it. Also, I believe that Canon S5 is less noisy than Nikon P80. I dont know what to do.
You can manual focus on the Nikon P80 by pressing the Macro buttton where there are 4 options , AF(autofocus ,Macro Mode , Infinity and manual focus. :-)

Nikon P90
Or should i pick another (of course based on that style and price)

i'd go with the P90 out of those three. sony needs to stick to making playstations, and the P90 is pretty much a better-enhanced version of the P80.
Go with the P90.

It can make videos for as long as the memory card can hold- 4 hours on 2 GB. It is not meant to be a DSLR, because that would be counter-productive. It has the same capabilities for photographers of all types, but some disadvantages.
The zoom is phenomenal, and the Vibration Reduction and pop up flash are great features.
This is a great review for a great camera.

The Olympus zoom is 20x compared to 18x for Nikon, but that difference is minimal.
