Beautiful plane but I'm wondering what the annoying mechanical noise was. Also, 300 kts must be with a 40 knot tailwind because the Malibu/JetProp cruises at about 260 TAS.
That noise you heard was the gyros in the instruments "whining". Gyro whine can be very annoying. In this case it was louder than in most light aircraft.
