It's been my experience mostly, if you kill them in one hit and they don't have a chance to scream it doesn't count as murder.

@hadeslord16 Is a daedric sword and you get that based on your level. I believe it's level 17 and higher to get daedric equipment. They become random drops and loot that you can find pretty much everywhere like iron or glass equipment.

Anyway, this kind of bugs have all been fixed adding the Unofficial Oblivion Patch + Unofficial Oblivion Patch Supplemental you can download from TesNexus, for PC only obviously.

This bug was caused by NPCs not having assigned a proper faction...

This is hilarious. Whatever, I enjoyed this game. Heck, I think the unbelievable stupidity of the AI actually added some unintentional hilarity and enjoyment to the game. I once spent ten minutes firing arrows at these people lying in bed and they would go flying and bouncing around the room (due to enchantments and sneak bonuses) then get back up and go lie down again ready for me to do it again. Oh, that was a good laugh.

This is one of the Stupid things of Oblivion. But there are some Mods who can do the trick to kill the one's you can't kill. I've killed with a Spell the Count of Chorrol, and i get the '' Honor Blade of Chorrol '' So you get REALLY the items from who you kill. Don't know but it looks like they have think about Mods and that kind of stuff.

Oblivion was a pioneer in this type of gameplay Bethesda did their best to make it glitch free, but... I mean there is over 500 character at the least in game and most times as many as 1500+ (counting creatures). I helped test this game and I still have fun with it. By the way Bethesda is coming out with an Elder Scrolls V it is going to be called the "Shadow Realm". I have no idea where it is going to take place but it is supposed to be 4x the size of Oblivion.

I like how the AI all have set schedules. It shows that Bethesda was hard at work. But when it comes to everything else, the AI is just hilarious. They even have the ability to look at you when you're invisible but they can't see you. They can also shoot arrows at you while looking the opposite direction, while you're invisible.

@zombiesupastar It was too complicated and no less silly - a ctizien doesn't like her dog, because it barks? KILL IT WITH A FIREBALL! And everybody ended up killing each other. What they should have done is add jobs - say, blacksmiths making swords, woodcutters... woodcutting and so forth. This thankfully is supposed to be implemented in Skyrim, we shall wait and see how it turns out. As for now Oblivion can't hold a candle to Gothic 1 and 2 in terms of NPC schedules.
