What happened was Willie Reyna, we are still recovering from that debacle. That coach destroyed our program and alienated the pop warner PR Don kids. Those days are done with, Rick Zepeda will make this program huge! Its a great time to be a Don.
El Rancho had the likes of Rick Pope, Reggie (who played with OJ Simpson at USC) and Brad Fielder amongst others, can't remember...too bad Mater Dei wasn't playing...Rick Pope wanted Mater Dei!!!!
Wow, what a time warp! Note that Anaheim's team captains were "The Generalissimo" John Ochoa (18) and future USC Trojan and Pittsburgh Steeler Gerry "Moon" Mullins (85).
A true clash of the Titans. Many Colonist football fans consider the '66 squad as the most talented ever, including greats like Ronnie Pharris, Dick Freeman, and Jim Fassel at QB.
Ouch, Pope's mad scramble from midfield, what a backbreaker. Until then, it was still a one-score game! (BTW, Anaheim got revenge in '67!)
Regarding Anaheim getting revenge in 67 - if I had played in would not have happened - and Anaheims Batwing offense - as their wing formation was known - would have been a broken bat
But like it has been said - if Anaheim's 66 team was their best ever - than that says a lot about Coach Johnson & his staff & the guys who went out their & played their hearts out & or were apart of ER's 66 Great Football Team
@JJDP4JC this Anaheim team might have had the most talent, but their best team ever was perhaps the 67 team that returned to the finals and won it against Santa Ana wich featured Isacc Curtis in a sunset League rematch.. el rancho was eliminated in the playoffs thus eliminating the possibility of a remach from 66.
So let us learn from the great Coaches - players - teachers - students & people of that era at El Rancho & apply it to to days world for todays El Rancho! Go Dons ! ! !
