In thirty years it's gained a bit of weight and put a few inches on. It's now almost as heavy as the first generation Focus. I suppose this is due to much better crash protection and passive safety. At least the Ford Ka is has now more in common with the Fiesta design philosophy.

@DJDMass I hope you've learned something today. I've been on top of the Mazda/Ford relationship since the mid-80s, and beleive me. Mazda uses NOTHING of FOrds, except Duratec V6 engine, after Ford told them to discontinue Mazda's own KL V6, which the Dtec V6 was designed from. And the North American FOrd Ranger. That's it. Intl Ford Rangers are ALL MAZDA BUILT B-series trucks. The Tribute/Escape is really a modified 626 (GE) chassis. Ford has ALWAYS lifted parts from Mazda.

Ford puts a lot of money into a sneaky kind of disinfo-marketing to make people think that it's their engines and chassis and Mazda just "shares" the parts. NO. Fusion, Focus (intl), Fiesta are all FULLY BASED on Mazda6 (GGplatform), Mazda3 (BKplatform) and Mazda2 (DE platform). Tne "Duratec" engines are ALL MAZDA ENGINES, either Z-series (small) or L-series (1.8-2.5).

Ford Fiesta was one of the cars I thought of bying due to the good handling/steering of Fiesta and Focus, but this generation looks to girlish for me. Not as bad as the Nissan Micra Cabrio or the Ford Ka, but It comes close. Besides, the rear looks quite ugly.
