Limit the supply and the demand goes up...it would cost $70 for the parts to have burst or auto parts in a rifle...yet to do it legally you'd be lucky to pay only $7,000. This is a complete violation of the Constitution.
The politicians are just scared of their own people, if you watch the hughes amendment in action, you can see that someone is trying to explain why they shouldnt ban full-autos, but they wouldnt let him speak, their scared of the average american. soon only the rich can afford the transferrable full autos.
@GunWebsites each time an MG gets transferred the price gets higher, for instance, you purchase a Mac-10 for 3,500 then you pay your 200 tax, once you decide to sell it you might want to sell it for a slightly high price the reason why you wnat to do this is due to the rarity of pre-86 weapons, its no doubt that eventually their going to be so rare that itll be worth like 85,000. you cant travel back in time and make more pre bans. And only one incident happened with a legal full-auto, a cop.
You know who will 100% protect the 2nd Amendment, specially the 4th? You guessed it Presidential Candidate Congressman Ron Paul, if you vote for Ron Paul and if he does become President he will definitely have the ATF stand down, you will be able to purchase any type of firearms, even types of guns that were banned by Bill Clinton. You know what causes gun ban legislation? That's right, the neighborhood Street Gangs, they cause your favorite weapon to be banned!
a vietnam era/ Grenada era M60 can cost like $50,000.00+ 200 transfer tax. when a weapons smuggler sells an upgraded M60e4 for only 4,000. instead of the law protecting us its slowly putting the law abiding citizens in danger. its uncommon for someone to pop out of nowhere and kill u with a post 86 machine gun, but 25 yrs from now no one will be able to afford any pre-86 full auto because theyre either rusted or the price that continues to increase for each transfer sky rockets!

The HK21 full auto version that shoots the .308 and is belt fed, is legal to own under this act but the HK UMP full auto version that shoots .45 auto and is magazine fed, is not legal to own under this act. belt fed .308 VS .45 auto which one is more dangerous to own? This act hasnt help prevent much crime, it has mainly caused gun prices to rise
I agree that this is stupid, but i also think that people should stop complaining. If you are good with a hand gun, then honestly dude, just use that. use two if you are so worried. and are you really going to carry around a machine gun for protection? Besides, shotguns are more effective at quickly killing someone in my opinion. and don't slap me in the face about this either, maybe im not a firearms owner, but i can understand the frustrations of one.
@ThePaperPress anytime you insert the word "but" into a statement, usually the words that came before it are untrue. the problem is not about having a gun that is "good enough", the problem is the anti-freedom lobbyist's take things in small increments to slowly chip away at our freedom's. Like the saying goes, givem an inch and they'll take a mile.
biggest slap at the "shall not be infringed", and what has happened to crime its gone up, like after the pistol ban in the uk crime still rose americans fight for your rights or you'll end up vertually disarmed like us brits
@TheAlexagius That is the point I have been trying to convey to some of my fellow Americans for years. I hope one day the Brits will beable to have their rights to own firearms recognized again.
The Hugh's Amendment is unconstitutional. I would argue that a machine gun made in 1986 functions the same as a machine gun made in 2011. I would also argue that it's unlawful to infringe upon a person's right to forbid ownership of fully auto based upon a date of manufacture. It violates the 2nd Amendment completely. However you're going to pay up the rear end just to get it to the Supreme Court if it even makes it there. Regan shouldn't have signed it with that amendment in it.
Firearms Owner's Protection Act (1986) needs to be amended or rewritten! I want to be able to own a machine gun if i want to dammit. I can fight for my country with a machine gun but I can't own in my own home?
@hicama10 The FOPA has nothing to due with what you can own, The assault weapons ban has been gone for a while now. If you can't own one it's your state not the feds. Many people I know have them. You pay a tax to the ATF and there you go.
I love the name of this law (sarcasm). It makes it sound like the firearm owner is somehow being helped or protected. It should be called the 'New Production Automatic Weapons Ban'.
or the "Let's outlaw a type of firearms rarely if ever used in crime because it will make the uneducated / uninterested "feel better" and distract them from the other thing we are doing over there that would really piss them off, ban of 1986"
The McClure/Volkmer Act does not have a sunset provision; controversy exists to this present day on how the U.S. House of Representatives voted on the inclusion of the Hughes Amendment under H.B. 777.
Yep they you Reagen and those damn Nazi Democrats and the NRA which pushed for the bill the NRA doesn't give a damn about gun owners they want your money not to help you get your rights restored like getting the 1986 ban on machine guns back to at least the NFA level I would be happy,I don't mind paying 200 bucks for the stamp but 10k for a rifle your fucking crazy.Congress give me my second amendment rights back, P.S the crazy SOB Reagan was a Democrat before was a turncoat GOP member
why would Reagan, the conservative that he was, have signed this into law?
This is the worst of all firearm laws. Though I don't think the NFA and gun control acts are constitutional, the GOPA of 1986 is the one that makes it impossible for me to own an automatic legally.....
yes I know you can still buy the pre 1986 registered guns, but as you've stated they are $10,000+. In all realistic sense I'll never be able to attain one, like most average citizens. it's just a back door way of banning automatic firearms altogether. If another 30 years go by without the Hughes amendment being repealed the effects will be the same as an all out ban....
Did you say that the Feds cant keep background check records? I thought they kept that information so that they know who the gun is registered too in case something happens?
Divide and conquer is their method. piece by piece..little by little until you have nothing left. Don't believe for a second that gun control will make US safe...Gun control ALWAYS leads to genocide. we couldn't even change presidents after Bush's first term. They brought in the man they wanted. Laws change if "they" want them to change. Look at the gun laws in Illinois, New York, and California. Even if the people wanted them to change they wouldn't. It's always Big Brother telling us what's best for us.
actually the calguns foundation is getting some of the previous california court decisions restricting firearms in california reversed. Including people getting charged with illegal concealed carry on their own property(yeah... it's that bad here) and winning those court cases so some common sense gets through to the courts.
Actually, let me clarify that. It's not that concealed carry on your own property is illegal, it's that cops and district attorneys still press charges and get people held in jail over it.
Being an Illinois resident, I am well aware of the terrible gun laws in this state. We don't even have CCW. That being said, Illinois citizens are making a stand and actively protesting and marching for CCW rights. In time, we will succeed. Our numbers grow every year.
It will only get worse if WE let it get worse. If half of gun owning Americans would get active politically we wouldn't have to worry about anti-gun laws passing.
Limit the supply and the demand goes up...it would cost $70 for the parts to have burst or auto parts in a rifle...yet to do it legally you'd be lucky to pay only $7,000. This is a complete violation of the Constitution.

Besides the 'prohibition' on NFA Title II Firearms, FOPA 1986 also redefined machine gun parts for conversions e.g. AR15 DIAS or Lightning Links.
