  • I participate in IDPA (among others) as well and these are some great starting drills for people looking to improve their skills. I am jealous you have your own outdoor area to shoot. :-) Great job on this vid...just subed your channel. Looking forward to checking out some of your other videos.

  • I haven't watched the entirety of your video, but I imagine if you could minimize your head movement, shoulder slumping, and knee-bending during draw you probably could shave .1-.2 seconds from your draw. I don't profess to be an expert but it has been my experience that any additional movement you are doing is just slowing you down.

  • That sweep is real cute without a vest. At first I skipped forward straight to the drill and was like WTF? Then I went back and realized your practicing a sweep and draw. Hilarious.

  • could anybody tell me the name of the movie at the end? if i havent already seen it i damn sure want to!!!

  • @gyoldamnshit That is from the HBO series " John Adams "

  • Thanks for the great video. It really is nice to see some shooting drills.

  • Great info. Thanks. I am going to get into competition shooting and this vid was full of great knowledge.

  • and the reloads.... um ever heard the term eyes/muzzle/target..... you never take your eyes off the target, so reloading by your belt buckle may look cool but you just lost sight of your target and now when you look up you have to find your target again. pretty ease for competition when targets are stationary. try that in a real world event... police/military or even concealed carry... and you just lost sight of the guy trying to kill you..... your dead......

  • overall... its an ok video. but im sorry i have had toooo much training to take it seriously. that wind up crap you do with your hand.... just slowing you down and its pointless... unless... say, your carrying concealed in winter time and you need to move a jacket to access your weapon..... a straight smooth draw would be much more effective not to mention faster.

  • why do competition shooters always use a weaver square with the target stance, try getting in a weaver and have some one push on your chest you will fall over, if you stand like a boxer or fighting stance you will not get pushed over. Not trying to talk shit just sayin. Your mag changes are cleaner that a safeway chicken.

  • Good video. I have no time for competition shooting but i wrangled up a crew and we will begin training july 4th among ourselves . My cousin has some land out in the sticks and we should have all the equipment we need by then. Thanks for the input and nice job on that movie clip at the end.

  • I was just thinking... Are you bald... do you have short hair... I've never seen you without a hat of some sort...

  • Good video, gonna have to go try these out at the range today or tomorrow, Im a new shooter, I shoot with my dad, but not in competition yet,

  • your instructional videos is very nice. i learned alot from it and definitely will watch this video over and over again. thanks alot!

  • "...pop 'em in the noodle, once", sounds like a Boondock Saints-ism!

  • Just a couple of questions.

Was that your G17 that you were shooting?

And what holster where you using?

  • Instead of practicing for an imaginary vest, why not just wear the vest?

  • The vest is fucking hot, it's a sunny day, if he doesn't need to worry about his target shooting back, why should he wear it?

  • @burnzorz the vest he wears would be over his shirt & pretty thin, not to hot & not a bullet proof vest, you don't move those out of the way. your question why should he wear it? well military, which i am former, and law enforcement, which i am currently we train like we fight. because in a fight you will revert to your training. he should wear his vest when training. i wear mine when training, ballistic vest with rifle plates and gear weighs 35LBS train like you fight/ fight like you train.

  • I dig your 'approach' to your draw with the imaginary jacket sweep!

  • 2:18 and 2:31 looks like he is doing the break dance...... lol!

  • Another great video man. And By the way. That is one of my favorite movies.

  • THANK YOU for all the good info and tips !!!

  • hey man I'v been watching your videos and I've found them to be full of useful info. I was wondering if you could do a video on properly using your gun sights. I've been told lately that you're supposed to shoot with both eyes open. I've always shot with one eye open and have had good results. Does it matter which method you employ or does it depend on the style of shooting ?

  • It depends on your eyes, if you can shoot with both eyes open and can see the sights/line them up and are accurate then thats good. If not then shoot with only one eye. I can't do it with irons because my right eye dominance isn't that strong but I can do it with red dots. Everyone is different, find a good instructor in real life to critique you if possible.

  • cool...thanks for the info.

  • @twarfield1204 it depends on the style of shooting and type of sights. both eyes open with a rifle or red dot sight is preferred, with a pistol it depends whats comfortable. CAUTION you shoot a pistol with both eyes open at a target at close distance you may get DOUBLE VISION and think your on target but actually be missing it completely check what works for you, what feels natural and what you are more accurate with. PROS use both eyes open but cover the weak eye lens of glasses with tape.

  • Just found your videos and have to say outstanding job with them. You'd do an excellent job teaching new shooters as they grow into the sport.

  • No problem man just sharing my 2 cents with the new shooters and its always great to see my new shooters getting into the shooting sports , thanks for watching.

You have some pretty good videos yourself man

  • @kickedintheballs2000 great vids man hey are you a fan of springfield xd's?

  • good video. Thanks for taking the time to make the video and post it. Shot my 1st IDPA match today and need all the tips I can get! I shot accurate, but slow. That was my goal today.

  • No problem man , thanks for watching.

You did the right thing man , speed will come with time. Accuracy should come first & then as you practice more , shoot more matchs and your speed will improve over time.

    Good job chris.

  • Man that is so cool that you guys have a match every week, thanks for the help and advice,,,gonna shoot as many matches as I can (should have took your advice and started re-loading too), ammo for competitions is getting pretty damn scarce

  • Yeah, Unfortunately here in South Carolina (Myrtle Beach) the closest IDPA match's are 2 1/2 hours away,,,drive sucks but digging the shooting- it's a blast...How many matches did it take for you to start getting comfortable and maybe moving up on the score sheet?

  • Well we have a weekly IDPA type shoot in the summer (In facted its just started monday) I've learnd and improved more at these little shoots then anything. But for the most part I'm sure you'll start to see your scores moving up as time goes on

I bet it took me about 2 months of shooting every week at our local Calvin Ball matchs before I started taking 1st. You'll most likely never get that comfortable but using them nerves can help you. (My hands still shake alittle before I shoot a match)

  • I'm on my 4th IDPA match now and I always keep coming back for your tips and advice, thanks a lot for your excellent vid's man..

  • No problem man , its great to hear your getting into it.

You found a good place shoot then I take it.

  • LOL... Show-off: 3.53 ;-)

  • lol After you eject your round like that a million times at matchs it gets very easy to do.

  • What gun do you use in IDPA, And how did you trick/tweak it out...I was thinking you use a Glock, some friends are trying to convince me to go Springfield XD or S&W M&P,,,what do you think?...Thanks for all your cool vids and tips...

  • Nice vid man, I've just started IDPA and I'm using a Kimber Raptor 2 in CDP division,,,.45 ACP is getting hard to find and I was just wondering It looks like your using a Glock in the SSP class,,,,You think it's more advantageous to go 9mm with higher cap's etc...What's your experienced opinion??

    Thx Again

  • Well yes is it easier ( At least for me ) to shoot in SSP over say CDP. In CDP you have lowwer magazine rounds ( I think its 8 max 7+1 ) and of course shooting the larger 45acp caliber in a 1911 frame does not help with controlling recoil.

  • With SSP you can shoot 9mm mouse fart loads and still make PF pretty easy ( Power Factor ) which makes controlling recoil easier + like you said you higher magazine round count ( 11 max 10+1 ) and overal 9mm is still cheaper to shoot.

  • This is kind of a weird question, but you do this thing with your right hand when reaching for the firearm. In the beginning you mentioned something about your vest, but is that something you do to properly grip the pistol or is there some other reason for it? I have to ask because I see you do it every time and I'm not sure if I'm missing something.

  • I was doing that because normaly I would be wearing a concealment vest and so I like to pratice it even when I'm not wearing the vest.

Many times it simply gets to warm outside and weearing the vest in practice you can get pretty hot , so I simply take the vest off yet still do that little sweep with my hand.

  • Outstanding! Instructions, technique, execution. And yes, the camera is great, with very nice shots - no pun intended.:-)

You have covered the Combat Triad well . . .DVC . . . Diligencia, Vis, Celeritas. (Latin for "accuracy, power and

    speed").

  • Thanks again man for the support

  • Very good instructions! Your videos have helped me a lot from the trigger modifications, reloading etc...

I have aquestions what holster are you using? and is that a Glock 26 you are using?

    Keep up the good work.!!

  • No problem man , thanks for watching.

The Holster I'm using in this video is just a simple uncle Mikes paddle holster and can be found at most gun stores for around 20 bucks.

No is this video I'm using my Glock 23 with a 9mm conversion barrel.

  • Can you use a .40 conversion barrel on a Glock 19?

Also, what load are you using 124 or 147 grs.?

  • No you can not use a 40 barrel in your G19.

In this video I was using just simple 115g WWB ( Winchester White Box ) but I've since then used 124g reloads & 147g reloads and they all worked fine.

  • Good to see the finger control :o)

Nice video mate. I am not an expert but i am in IPSC and you seem to move well and things look pretty good.

  • Thanks man

  • Good instructional video for beginners. Well paced, good camera angles, good ideas. You have a talent for shooting and teaching. Good luck!

  • Thanks for the kind words man.

  • Where you shoot you obviously have alot of land but my question is what are somethings I can practice at the range. You know what I mean it's like shooting in a phone booth not alot of room for cover drills or pie drills... by the by is your drawquick because of repetative practice or is there something to do with your holster? thanx. vid was genious!

  • Good vid.

  • thats awesome. very impressive. if only i had the land to practice shooting on!!! range fees are KILLER

  • has he got a dip in??? What brand? I bet its grizzly

  • As usual, another useful video from you. Just getting started in IDPA and IPSC. Great for you to share your ideas and approach, thanks.

  • Np problem man thanks for watching.

Just remember what may work for me may not work for you so mix things up a little and try different things to see what works best for you.

How you liked IDPA , IPSC shooting so far man? Not to many range nazi's where you shoot I hope.

  • Shoot my first match in less that 2 weeks. IDPA. A great club very organized they put on a minimum of 2 shoots a month. Lovin' my M&P 9L though I am using a 5.11 dual mag MOLLE and an Uncle mikes nylon holster. Pretty basic stuff but I will "upgrade" as I progress. Took a post CHL course at my gun club last week and learned lots of good stuff and drills. Really easy to get hooked. Bought my first case of 9mm ammo last week! Tee hee....

  • Great to hear your getting into it. Let me know how everything goes.

  • Comment removed

  • ear muffs?

  • do no extra movements pal

  • I am very happy shooting ipsc for 5 months now with my glock 17, I use a fobus holster and mag carrier as well, exelent vids my friend

  • beautiful weather there man, unlike some other vids when your all ruged up :P

  • what kind of holster and model is that u used and where can u find 1

  • Its just a Simple Uncle mikes Paddel holster for a Glock 17/19 , that can be found in about every firearm store for around 20 bucks.

  • hey man. starting to get into competion shooting and i am unsure what gun i should buy. if u good give me some ideas that would be great. also, can u give me info on gear like holsters mag pouched ect.,ect.,ect.

  • i just shot 4 stages in my first uspsa match as a junior loved it

  • some good drills to work up on. I especially loved the addition of the John Adams clip at the end! Ole pig-vomit did a damn fine job playing that role. In Liberty...

  • you are dropping your head during the draw. keep your head still, bring the gun up to your eyes. you will have a much faster first shot

  • Thanks for the info man I'll see what I can do.

  • When you're new,is it better to walk smoothly through the matches,or try to keep up with the other shooters? Also, please explain the scoring.

  • Just shoot your own speed man and if you feel that trying to keep up with every else will cause you to drop to many points then don't do it.

I've seen to many newbe's try and keep up with the fast shooters and drop so many points it was not even funny.

  • Ohh ya I cover different types of scoring in a up coming video.

  • i guess what i meant was, does ipsc and ect allow breaks to clean ur gun?

  • Well sometime some of the bigger matches have lunch breaks or take afew days and I guess you could clean your firearm then also.

I don't think you would have time in between stages to clean your firearm unless there was alot of people there.

As for is there any rules saying you can't clean in between stages or at a match , well I'm not really sure.

  • do u clean ur barrel after about 50shots?

  • I clean my firearm after everytime I shoot , no matter if its 1 round or 1000 rounds.

But thats just me and many would say thats kind of overkill.

  • What size pistol would you recommend for competition,3",4",5". I've got the Springfield xd 45acp 5" Also,do you prefer a certain caliber? Thanks

  • Well for some shooting sports a longer barrel does help but for IDPA a 4" barrel should be just fine ( I use a G23 for IDPA and thats a 4" Barrel ) the longer 5" or even 6" barrels does make using your sights alittle easier but I can shoot my G26 ( Thats a 3 1/2" Barrel ) just about as good as I can shoot my G23.

And I mostly shoot 9mm for competition due to very high ammo prices.

  • Yeah, you need a smart ass "co-host" to your "straight man" persona! :)

  • Nice Glock patch! Fun vids man! I vote for more humor! :)

  • Well I'm not much of a comedian but I'll try and but more humor in my video's.

Thanks for watching & Shoot safe.

  • MY EYES, THOSE LEGS, I CAN'T SEE!

Seriously though, another well done and well presented video. I have watched most of your video's and have always learned something.

Thanks for your time and effort.

  • What is the name of the movie that you took the clip from at the end? Looks like a good movie.... And thanks for the vids...keep em coming.

  • Its from the HBO mini series John Adams

  • nice video

  • cool video bro,,you might wanna be careful when shooting around the new camera ,because if the mike is very sensitive you could damage it from the gun blast an eventually need a new camera,my cameras mike is shot,,,just a thought, stay cool bro..

  • Thanks for the info man I did not think of that.

  • If you don't mind me asking , what camera are you using?

  • i have an SVP-HDDV1500,a cheap one from Ebay but i've heard that before, of people having trouble with gun fire , call HP an ask them in customer service if your cameras rated for gun fire or tech assistance just to be sure.the gun fire makes the recording spike very quickly.gun blast from pistol fire can rip your finger off.good luck with your videos they're great

  • Why do you twist your wrist like that before grabbing the gun?

  • Cause I was practicing for a IDPA match and in IDPA you must wear some type of concealment and thats why I was turning my wrist and sweeping my chest before I draw the firearm.

Just my way of training for IDPA without having to put on my my vest everytime.

  • Great video, thank from Argentina.

    MaQ

  • Damn good video man. Good demonstration on some training methods even for the guys like me that dont shoot competitions. Very informative!

  • Thanks man

  • Great job as always +1 and thumbs up bro!

  • Great Job I Also Like The New Camera.

  • right before it started there was a bit of te god of war 3 trailer in it

  • Yep

  • its guna be sick dude i luv the gow series it kicks ass and keep up the cool gun vids

  • Ya me to I can't wait for GOW 3.

  • same its guna kick gears of war and halo 3 right out

  • Kick

There are a few Magill vids on u tube but they are the early ones that are shooting related but not the defence vids that he later pioneered

  • I'll do a search and check them out ( Thanks for the Info man )

  • Excellent video, sir. Many thanks for showing us noobs to the sport how it's done! :)

  • No problem man and just remember we all are noobs at one time but thats why we learn.

    Thanks for the support

  • thanks for getting that up so fast. I shoot about every weekend and your videos have helped me get my times way down. thanks again and keep the awsome info comming.

    shoot safe,

    cory

  • No problem , it give me a chance to see how the new camera worked outside.

  • What kind of camera did you get??

  • Its a AipTek 1080p Action HD

  • Sounds high tech If you get a chance get a pic or vid of it so I can see what it looks like

It does a hell of a job on the slow mos

  • Ok man I'll try and put a pic of it in the next video.

Ya I even have it on one of its low HD settings and it still does a great job. ( Its running 60 frames per sec , thats why the slow mo looks pretty good )

  • Big Bucks?????

  • Well was not cheap but I think its a good deal. ( $200 bucks for the camera & Another &$50 for a SDHC card )

  • Paid close to that for my HP

  • You have giving an Idea for taping my drills than run them in slow mo.Betwwen that and my shoot timer I should be able to keep it clean

  • Thats the first time I have heard you mention IDPA I was thinking you only shoot IPSA

Another great vid Do you have a timer? I purchsed one from midway on sale and it helped my drills greatly

Your drills are a lot like one of the ones I do Have you seen anyHathorn or Lenny Magill Vids?

  • I really been getting into IDPA due to its more realistic type stages and low round count.

No I don't have a timer cause its alittle overkill for me , I just like to shoot my own speed and not have the time drive how fast I shoot. ( I like to pull my shots when I'm rushing myself to much )

( anyHathorn or Lenny Magill Vids ? ) No I don't think I ever heard of them.

  • That is the same misconception I had about the timer training when I started using it. And it did me more harm than good. The important aspect of timer training is not that you are trying to "beat the beep". It is that you are trying to "beat the beep" while maintaining the proper technique.

  • For me the timer told me when I was not using good technique. When my technique was not good I would not have good shoots. What works for one will not always work for another. But in my case the bullseye and the timer keep my techniqe crisp

  • To each their own

  • its awesome that your sampling movies!!

we sample movies in our songs when we record.

we usually do an epic movie quote right before a really heavy part in the song.

    it sounds awesome

    +1 for sampling!

  • lol cool ending.

why cant i remember what movie thats from?

  • Its from the HBO mini series John Adams.

  • As always another great video, your becoming quite the tv host!!! Great job man and good luck on your maych

  • Thanks man

  • Kick Ass Video Man!!

    Five Stars!

  • When I don't use those targets with the florescent behind the black (they're expensive). I use foam paper plates too. I just draw a couple lines (a cross or whatever) with a thick black marker.

And I use a lot of people discarded targets at the range. Lots of people leave behind decent ones that can still used a bit more.

Excellent work here. I shoot well but in competitions I tend to come in in the middle of the pack. I appreciate these videos.

  • Ya I know what you mean , I have done alittle trash picking at are local range for some used targets.

  • Awesome Video!

I like how you pointed out the importance of not sweeping the firearm to the target.

    Great safety tip.

    Scot

  • Thanks for the support man

  • Hats off on an informal comp shooting vid. I was wondering how long this one was coming! The audio seems a whole lot better. What did you do??

  • Got a New camera.

  • great shooting and great ending to the clip... Let us know how you do at your match!!!

  • Thanks man , I'll let yall know how it goes.

  • Thanks for the useful info on drills

  • what about second comment.....lol...jk....good video....keep them coming

  • lol I just hate it when people do that First Comment crap.

    Thanks for watching man

  • I wish there was a speedloader for shotguns, like a tube full of shells you hook into the feeding tube then put your thumb at the back and push all the shells into the tube.

  • lol well they have something like that.

  • kickedintheballs2000 is correct such a speedloader exists. They aren't cheap, and require a lot of practice to use efficiently.

  • First comment.

  • I happy you watched my video & commented but please don't do that first comment thing.

  • Oh sorry, it was a good video.
