I would love for somebody to translate this lovely song "Now we are free" makes me cry everytime I watch Gladiator and I've seen it over and over and over again!! The only other choice I would have made for Maximus would have been Charleton Heston if her were of age but Russell Crowe is wonderful in this picture. The chemistry between him and Joaquin Phoenix is out of this world!! Joaquin should have one best supporting actor oscar for that movie!!
Russell Corwes words to the director, "This script is shit, but I will make it great." Think about it, sometimes they talk about absolute doodoo. Thats a nice word, doodoo.
i wish they would bring back the gladitorial games in all their blood and guts glory
i'd pay to see that and in fact would buy a season ticket !
one thing I wouldn't allow in the arena - wanky advertising like nike and all that shit. If anyone attempted to advertise they would be next up on the programme for the lions
i loved this song until i found out she was singing a language that she knew as a child a made up language thats not real she said she believed that she was speaking to god when singing in these lyrics yes its a beautiful song but messed up becuase of that
My mate told me to watch this movie and i asked why, and she said that it would make you cry, and i said im not that sensitive that i would cry just because i watched a sad movie, so i watched it and guess what! I CRYED MY ASS OFF
The story Gladiator has truely opened my eyes to a truer meaning of honor and love, two that i hope to surround my life by. Honor when commited to can cause greater impacts on the lives around you than one could ever forsee. "what we do in life.. echoes in eternity" Respect those around you, be stubbornly attached to a life of honesty, fairness and integrity and most of all be there for those who need you
-a friend of mine once said, life isnt about money or power.. its about the men around you
@Sparky1966 It's not the video lol.. Its the song that really impacts your heart, yes I love and believe Gladiator to be the best film there ever was but if you want something to really catch and soothe your heart watch the final cut scene were the black man buries the figures, that truly is beautiful and loving. (includes song :P)
As sure as the sun that will rise every day-many of us will never quite understand lifes plan for us. Some will be satisfied & content. Others will never feel like they fully find peace & tranquility or why we even exist.
Life can be brutally unfair and very inpersonal to some & yet to others, they are disrespectful to the very existance of life itself. One thing is glaringly obvious at the end , when our time comes, nothing can come between us & where our heart and soul yearns to be.
Moja klasa tzn.dziewczyny przy tym tańczyły na zakończenie roku i powiem, że wyszło nam pięknie. Nawet pani od historii się popłakała. Piękna piosenka ;)

The Gladiator is one of my favorite films, and this slideshow is awesome, tells to us how great movie The Gladiator is. Thank you, I enjoyed watch this.
this movie gave me the strenght to go on each time i remember the words "strenght and honor"and remind me how deeply i'm in love with this special man i don't know but i thank for the deep feelings he can give to me thank you Russell
@superbcrowe i know exactly what you mean, i love this movie, no actor could have EVER touched the performance done by Russell Crowe, he remains an amazing actor in this performance and many, many others.....i appreciate his work and the feelings he inspires, at least within myself....
Of course there were gladitorial battles in ancient rome that were fierce and bloody, the subsequent rise of Christianity and the eventual conversion of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great (280-337) to Christianity (catholicism, the universal church) put an end to the spectacles.
But it could not, would not ever have been possible for a slave to fight an emperor,
emperors were held, at that time, to have been descended from the Gods.
blasphemy- a crime- as far as Roman regligious sensibilities were concerned.
Hollywood would have been much better off casting Russel Crowe as SPARTACUS, the sicilian slave who led a revolutionary revolt against the might of Rome-
that is History, and a moving, awesome story.
Also, Gaius Mucius Scaevola, was a hero, a giant of a man who, after being caught by Etruscan forces and threatened to be burned alive, stuck his right hand into
@IronSabine Hm, hm, are you forgetting from real history what happened with Narcissus vs Comod (although not just in arena, perhaps inside bathroom) ? so this movie - with so epic story spared us from too disgusting detailles - with extra elegance view and way. High Movie Team had excellent imagination! arenadri7
The story of Maximus is fictional, however the conquests and the Emperor where based on truth. However, I am not sure as to how Maximus killing the Emperor fits in with the truth :S
I can only imagine how many thumbs down my comment will elicit, but to appreciate a movie I believe one has to look beyond the mesmerizing soundtrack and not let themselves be swayed by backround themes.
"Gladiator" was an OK movie, NOT GREAT. It is
grossly erroneous historically. Roman Generals were never demoted- ROMES greatness was predicated on an unusual brand of Honor that no longer exists among men.
Furthermore, never would an emperor, held in Godlike status, enter a fighting arena.
this type of gladiator match could not, nor did not, ever happen.
The song, however, is hypnotic and incredibly surreal, worthy perhaps of a stronger and more accurated account of what took place in the eternal city known as Rome.
Since the story was too far fetched and historically innacurate (after all, it was an historical movie) the story was weak for those of us who have studied Roman history.
The song is great, but I dont need the movie to appreciate it, to appreciate the movie I need to know it is not a joke-
well i study Roman history as well.and this is my favorite movie, yeah its not historically accurate, but its a great story and one of the best movies ive ever seen.
@IronSabine Again me - why to denote it as a joke - stories has their own worthiness - are made now, for us today, with some important messages - which are very good accepted - great successful movie. Think also that great Marcus Aurelius would agree - his ethics is here. And arts have their own way - different from historic studies -it is "licencia poetica", by the way... Or not?
This movie will remind many of unspeakable wounds within, but it can also soothe and heal many hearts. It constantly reminds us how inseperable and engrossing love can be for the ones close to your heart, yet how fragile ones life really is. When the time comes when your heart aches and you constantly search aimlessly for a loved one but will never find, my heart goes out to you. No matter how hard life bares down on you, the message is clear - respect one another now not when they're dead.
@Sparky1966 you nailed it - your comment touched my heart.....the movie moves me in ways i cannot put into words....a rush comes over my entire body when i hear the music, i think maybe -you- get it.....thanks :)
the first time i saw that film , i remained astounded and mute for about an hour. there's something special in that movie which touch people's sense of beauty and humanity. it is made of magic, sensitivity and a lot of purety and sincerity in the images. a Great and sublime movie.
when i hear this song i cant help thinking of the ending of the movie when he falls and dies..i almost want to cry all over again..i'm a dork..lol, ck out the theme song from last of the mochicans, also a hit.
Fantastic film. Though i think from a film perspective the tragic ending makes it much more moving and memorable, since so many films have happy endings. Plus it gives rise to the line "he was a soldier of Rome; honour him" which always sends shivers down my back!
A great tribute to my favourite film, thanks Steamboat179, *****
its funny how good gladiator was as a film, but at the same time it was considerable cheap to produce. In perspektive of other movies. But its not always the money that creates the best movie, its the intellegence of the script and camera angle, ideas, humor, love, human emotions generally. A good movie is one that most people want to relate to. And tell me. Who doesn't want to be a handsome, strong gladiator with a beautiful wife? :-)
Indeed the best movie ever I love Russel Crowe's movie. I collect all of his movie. this reminds me of my best friend hu died of lukiemia 4 years ago when we were both only kids in our prime i cry evry time i think of her. we both always loved this song so i like to remember her by it but shes in abetter place now ...
im crying by this video and it makes me remind on the century you was small and running around and played with your old friends...and the family.........
Barbarians?? If the Romans were barbarians, what would you call the rest of the world?
Chimpanzees?
True, Romans took the best from other civilizations and made it their own, just like the US. Our greatest strength are the imigrants that bring their culture here to the US and make it American.

I can of course appreciate that the soundtrack is excellent in its own right.
For the majority of us without such an in-depth knowledge of ancient Rome, the storyline is still enjoyable i think.
Also the historical theme is not the only one in the film, other themes such as love, loyalty, betrayal, bravery etc, are all executed well.
If the film had benn more historically accurate, thus eliminating parts, the other themes would have been detracted from.
Out of interest, is it based on truth?

Who says that the greatness of a film depends upon realistic and historical accuracy?
How many great films can you name without a fantastic soundtrack or touching background theme?
Without a background how can there be a film worthy of notice? Good music brings a theme to life.

ROMAN civilizatio is taken by Greek. ROMANS where nothin more that barbarians before that.
P0w3rgamer 4 years ago
Barbarians?? If the Romans were barbarians, what would you call the rest of the world?
Chimpanzees?
True, Romans took the best from other civilizations and made it their own, just like the US. Our greatest strength are the imigrants that bring their culture here to the US and make it American.
Cobra7777 4 years ago 3
erm there were many civilizations that existed eons before the Romans did, so no the rest of the world weren't chimpanzees.
