  • After 30 years, this is still a great song.

  • @1985OldSkool DAM!! 30 Years!!!??? Doesnt feel that long!!! Decent tune..then and now!

  • @Bobsmellslikeyourmom

    LMFAO! Good answer!

  • @LUDAingmy 2nd daughter was conceived from this track!

  • True millerinskijr and same chord progression in Ricky Skaggs' "Heartbroke" too. Great song, though.

  • @jmacangrl

    LMAO-- AWESOME!

  • lmao omfg! cnt believe u said tht

  • My first Genesis 45 record :)

  • someone named gr33nscr33n sent me the link to this video

  • This chord progression is the same as part of Hot Fun in the Summertime by Sly & the Family Stone

  • @millerinskijr Hmm... veeeeeery close, sir...

  • @millerinskijr Thats true man...jajaj...Genius !!!!

  • @millerinskijr Gee just had a listen and wow spot on! Looks like Sly & the Family Stone (unlike some artists) showed enough class to realise that it was perhaps an innocent error on Genesis' behalf. Either that or Sly & the Family Stone couldn't afford a lawyer! -Daz in Oz.

  • @millerinskijr and countless other songs..it's a progression that works

  • @millerinskijr very true. I like both songs, i am surprised i never noticed. Good call.

  • Five Easy Pieces anybody???????

Collins is a very good drummer and I like this track for memory's sake but, he is a bit of a tube.

  • you are all right hes f'ckin briliant

  • When I went to this tour in 80 I think, this was a hit for them but they didnt play it live!! which of course I loved at the time. They did however play alot of the Duke album which was ok. Think it was the last tour they opened with Squonk and right into Dance on a volcano. The entire tunes. No stupid teaser medleys. Damn good concert one of there last good ole days tours.

  • Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument.

  • Great tune...Remember when the album first came out..I played it over and over..Then I fell into a deep depression..I think I was depressed because our cable company didn't have MTV yet!!!

WTF? Just think about that one for a minute...

Now, I am depressed and old!!!

  • I love Phil and Genesis... =) I listen to this song everyday!!! =)

  • Exactly now, i'm misunderstaning of my girlfiend, thaks phil.

  • Like the song, but Phil, seriously...that 'stache/goatee mix has GOT TO GO! Makes ya look all weird and creepy.

  • @sbrushfan He made this video before he lost it, the "`stache/goatee mix" that is.

  • listen closely to the 1st chords sounds like sly and the family stone those summer days lol rockn roll repeats...ya ya ya

  • Love the '57 Chevy he is driving.

  • @auroralights100 thats not a 57 chevy

  • One of my favorite songs for sure.

  • what year is that ford convertable?

  • his ex wife was such a bitch! i hate her for doing that to phil

  • too bad great music like this is not written today. Today we have to listen to shit like Katy Perry and Snoopy the dog crap.

  • @lionking1969 I heard "Snoop Dog" was killed by mafia assasins.

  • @lionking1969 there is good music written you have to look for it. It's liek going to the thrift store

  • @lionking1969 Hey, Snoop's alright with me!

  • Anybody notice the similarity in lyrics with "Fool in the Rain" by Led Zeppelin? No matter - both are favorite songs of mine!!

  • tambien genesis sabe tocar al rock

  • wow amazing song!

  • damn i didn't even know that was phil at the beginning... haha

  • Never throw out those tropical shirts gentlemen!!!! They always come back in style like how about right now. hehe

God I loved this decade and will never forget listening to this and rocking out in LA. Takes be right back to where I always wanna be!!! :D

  • Stalker!!!!!!! LOL i love it

  • Phil Collins with a beard??!!! wtf... lol damn he looks so young here

  • @WhiteStoneChild Young?? Dude was like almost 30 at the time...might be cause doesn't look like he's balding yet. haha As for the song...fantastic!

  • @shakobenmyerz Hey 30 is not old. Its not even middle age... but phil collins did bald really quick.... As for the song i do agree that is fantastic, lol

  • @WhiteStoneChild= There's a video where Phil has a full head of hair and a beard. He looks like one of the Allman Brothers. I sympathyze with him. There is a history of baldness in my family as well.

  • Obviously before everyone had cell phones! Great tun

  • Phil reminds me of one of the Beach Boys here...I think its the beard...?...

  • Okay, so who's in the car ahead of Phil at the end of the video? It actually looks like the Clampetts...

  • @AlottaStuff

Thats tony banks playing piano on a baby grand.

  • Great sound quality... thank you.

I love Phil Collins; I think that he added so much to the band when his presence became more apparent.

  • a song about phil getting cheated on. yet again.lol but not made sad, but upbeat. crossover themes. interestment.

  • probably my fave genesis song. i just love it. it sounds kinda sad

  • Phil Collins is incredibly underrated as a musician. One of the best ever.

  • Killer car.....

  • Great song both in sound and lyrics..

  • Phil is lookin sexy here....damn!

  • the greatest

  • phil's beard is so cute!!!!

  • woo hoo ooo ooo Nice flip on Sly & The Family Stone's "Hot Fun"

  • Phil!!!

  • yes.... a brilliant song!

  • wow this song takes me back to a happy place

  • you gotta love the instrumental and vocal fusion at the end of the song; genesis was a classic band!

  • great song

  • Have to be one The best if not one of the best Scary Stalker songs of all time. Thumbs up if you Agree!

  • Love it!

  • such an amazing song

  • What the hell is he talking into ??!!??

  • Phil Collins is GOD!

  • boy i've had this mis-understanding one to many times.....not so much anymore...

  • Pardon me, I don't believe we met before, my name is James, what may I ask, is yours?

    GENESIS!

  • best genesis song ever!!!

  • When I first heard this song I thought about Paul McCartney, who I was crazy about. It was around the time Wings split up and it looked like he wouldn't go on tour again for a long time..."I was waiting in the rain for hours..you were late." Finally saw him in 1989. Gorgeous song!

  • Where is Peter? aint in this one either?

  • @relimes This song and video was recorded in 1980 - Peter left in 1975 :)

  • @hubiex that's exactly what happened to him. but i do like this song.

  • I'm glad you like this song..really!....but my thing about it is this...Any song from "and then there were three" crushes it....i was shocked Tony and Mike let it through the "no lame shit" gates...just could'nt believe my Genesis trained ears...."three sides live" version ended up being somewhat tolerable...at best!

  • @hubiex beginning of the end? Interesting notion given that Invisible Touch and We Can't Dance sold over 50 million albums between them. Some demise. Unless of course you are a bitter Prog Head with a better taste in music than the rest of us.

  • @ray5401 A demise in quality music, not record sales. Unless of course you are one of those that does not understand the difference.

  • @hubiex Ah, so your taste in music is better than mine - thought as much. The usual bitter Prog Head comments. Get over it.

  • @hubiex Here's an idea if you don't like it don't post a comment ....leave it to a rating and keep it to yourself...this band was very influential and deserves every bit of respect as any other band out there...the opinion of a few does not overshadow the opinion of millions

  • @Quick2Snipe100 Here's an even better idea...Stop telling people how to voice their opinion! Your comment is immature and ignorant and i've no tolerance for your way of thinking!

  • @hubiex You're just pissed because more people like this and don't agree with you ...so don't waste comment space on your pathetic views...they aren't worth the sht on our shoes

  • awesome song brings back memories from the 70s

  • yes and still great to listen to!!!

  • drive in's were a blast....bring em back!!!!

  • @19hoops81 Drive-ins still exist. I go all the time with my wife. There's two in this general area.

  • @chrisluyk lucky fella, enjoy the memories..

  • @19hoops81 The one we go to is incredibly popular. Since we're in Canada, they're not open year-round, but for about 8 months in the year it's booming. I can't see it going anywhere since the three theaters have massive lots and most summer nights is rammed. They have all the old school concession stands and "let's all go to the lobby" ads. Best part is it's only $10 for two movies. Check around your country if you ever go on a road trip, you may find one.

  • @chrisluyk may I be green with envy?....it seems to me if I go on a road trip..it would be to your province just to go to the drive in..by the way, you have beautiful country up there...I spent some time up there around the new/old Hazelton area in BC in the late 70's.

  • @chrisluyk Cool! where are you thaht has one? the one I know is in gatineau, qc and it's also 10$ for two movies!

  • @dajeenyus Southern Ontario. The one is in Oakville. The other one is local enough that it's in the newspaper, but I don't know exactly where it is.

  • true that!

  • Between 80 and 81? Wow. Time flies heh?

  • This is so much like Fool in the Rain by Led Zeppelin, only this isn't as good...

  • hell no, this is different but great in its own unique self... oh and btw youre adopted...

  • The video and lyrics are very cheesy, but the music is classic. I think the best part is the first few notes of the song.

  • Phil Collins is so young.

  • I wonder whatever happened to the keyboardist(Anthony Banks)in this video when the whole group of Genesis split up off & on and then when Genesis split up permanently like when Phil Collins went solo again & when Mike Rutherford went solo with Mike+The Mechanics again.

  • @100572a Tony did lots of solo albums, but only the first one (done around the same time as this) was moderately successful. He's still around, did a classical album a few years ago. Mike had solo albums before the Mechanics, which IMO are much better than his Mechanics stuff. Both of them I think have their better works on Genesis albums overall than solo albums. Sorry but the first solo albums of Tony and Mike "Curious Feeling" and "Smallcreep's Day" kill everything they did solo after.

  • The guitarist(Michael Rutherford)in this video was also the guitarist for Mike +The Mechanics too as well as the band leader for Mike+The Mechanics.

  • This song takes me back to memory lane to my childhood days since I was 8 years old in the 2nd grade when this song came out between late 1980 & early 1981.

  • when you want good old classics,it dosn't get any better!

  • phil collins is the greatest ever..I love genesis too.

  • It doesn't seem fast to me.

  • WTF?! Why is this so gat damn HIGH????!! Ew!! Who sped it up, man?!

  • people will do that to avoid copyright problems

  • @kidyubyub intelligent comment on youtube?? I must be dreaming

  • @booson90

LOL - Because I am a bit "youtube" cynical, do I detect sarcasm or were you being serious?

  • take that back Phill turned this band into a goldmine for mike and tony!

  • love you Phil!!!!

  • Poor Phil... :(

Heaven forbid Little Miss Feathered-Hair give lil Phil a chance

    Stay strong Phil Collins

  • @sexyjefflynne72 phil collins is one of thebest musicians ever he will always rule

  • @sexyjefflynne72 LMAO! We are here for you Phil! It must be be some kind of understanding! What is this shenanigins???!!!

  • i love this song! classic! i love phil

  • thom mcan...

  • One of the greatest songs in existence!

  • @budogden One of the Greatest BANDS of all time!

  • should,ve been no1 easily, one of there many classics, give us one more uk tour for the road.... simply the best !!!!!

  • GREAT SONG!!!!

  • It bugs me that they spead up the video mix by half a step... Sounds like Chipmunks... Compare to the album/cd mix.

  • To me this song marked the beginning of the 80's. I was just entering 7th grade back in 80

  • Nice to see Phil with the flowing locks

  • This and Mama are probably my favorite Genesis songs

  • fuck you retarded niggas ! who gives a shit if sly stone did the chords first, and i doubt if phil ripped him off..it's phils compliment to sly stone....and yes i'm black asshole. a real music lover...

  • i'm black and i'm proud, i listen to almost all songs/

  • i wonder if they felt like retards doing this video?

  • lol in this vid Phil Collins looks like a younger version of Jay Ingram from Discovery Channel

  • That beard was the symbol of machismo! Nice!

  • Love this voice. RASIV ("Katalina Translates")

  • Did Genesis edit out the woman in this number? Where's Linda!

  • the main riffn this song is a ripp off of a bridge in a 60s or 50s black artists/band song , fuck ,i forgot what it is

  • Hot Fun in the Summertime. It was bugging me too. For the longest time it bugged me that I couldn't figure out where chord progression came from. But yeah, Sly and the Family Stone, Hot Fun in the Summertime. Amateurs borrow. Professionals steal. Both are great songs.

  • Where's Linda Kendall? She used to be all through this video--not just on the movie screen. Let's see her. she makes the song!!

  • just epic, music like this will NEVER be written again

  • what great vocals on this song

  • Lo maximo

  • 70 s

  • 1980

  • Phil Collins is one of the baddest Mothers of all time

  • @Prallductions indeed.

  • i agree!!

  • Great song. im usually a fan of hard rock and metal, but i do like genesis. The songs are so catchy and they have great songwriting.

  • This song rock! When music was good!

  • This song always evoked the night and rain to me; looks like they came up with the video concept while laid over on a flight to Hawaii.

  • I've never seen the video for this before now...it was awesome on a few different levels.

  • thats the same drive-in movie theater from the movie "Heat"

  • The Centinela Drive-In. It was located near where I live. I miss that place.

  • The good old days, great music!!

  • Wow a payphone

  • Great song, and great video. Get well Phil!

  • theres no such thing as rip off in the music industry they obviouslt got permission from the the label or they woulda had a lawsuit up there ass

  • Generally the industry retains all likeness and image rights to their artists. Its a "standard procedure" which means you essentially sell your soul. The only way to redeem yourself is to consistently perform well and over time purchase back 51 percent stake in yourself as a commodity. Nowadays though, the stakes have been raised and after you buy yourself back, promoters all of a sudden get this bright idea to have you or your group do a reunion tour or reality show. Then its pandemonium!

  • Thanks for posting! Phil looks so young... :)

  • And so bearded. Heh.

  • @TracyBeth87 yeah that bearded look is pretty cool

  • @cubsfan702 There was a time I think in 1977, three years before this, he had that beard much thicker and more outgrown, they were on tour somewhere in southern US I'm thinking one of the Carolinas, he lost his ID and everyone started looking at him like he was Charles Manson!

  • This is not only my fav Genesis song...it's one of my favorites period. For some reason, I thought that the song was a little slower. Anyway, believe it or not, this is my first time ever seeing the video!

  • One of the best Genesis songs of all-time.

  • What a great (although sad!) song...

  • thank god for that......i love that!
