For some reason this series is one of the few series that I would like to see America make movies of, and hopefully not screw everything up like they did with DBZ. Thankfully, unlike dbz, this series has a more of an English feel to it, considering the book its inspired from and with the popularity of witches as a genre. I'll say that this series could easily rival Harry Potter if it was actually advertised a lot better in the states. Don't flame me for the suggestion, but I think this will work
By "the book it's inspired from," I would guess you mean "And Then There Were None" yes?
Well that's... not actually entirely accurate. The Umineko games (and to a lesser extent, the poorly adapted anime version) DO borrow heavily from classical mystery novels, and from Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie in particular for the "detective" role, but it's most direct inspiration would actually be another visual novel from Liarsoft in... 2004 I believe called "Forest."
Umineko heavily borrows concepts from forest, such as the idea of fiction painting over reality giving birth to a multi layered reality, a gothic witch that challenge the protagonists to riddles who is weak to boredom, two different character are actually just one character that switches "personality" when putting on a dress, a character you believe exists doesn't, and the protagonist being forgetful and incompetent.
Far and away, this song beats out the anime's opening theme completely. There's so much more... emotion in this one. It's just so much more well-executed in general.
Although Katayoku no Tori does have that moment when it goes into "Nakanaide, torawareta..." or whatever, which is epic, this one is still better.
No idea where to find it (i don't think there is an official English version yet), but its like a game on the computer - except you read the text on the screen which tells the story... hmm, search 'Umineko no Naku Koro ni VN Episode 1', that's what the visual novel is like.
Oh wow...I'd thought for so long this was the OP for the anime...I was like..."It sounds so different but its the same singer?!" Ahaha FAIL ON MY PART.
C'est juste magnifique *-*

I wish Akiko Shikata did the themes for all the Umineko games :/ Her style fits the mood of the story so well.

Still decent though.

@lordlee2 hmm, you made me curious. who wrote that, or what is Forest? (A novel? TV show?) where can I find more info on it?

@hendricha
Like I said, it's a Visual Novel, same as the original Umineko games are. It was made by Liarsoft and isn't translated yet though.

It kind of reminds me of pirate music, maybe from Pirates from the Caribbean. Except more awesome. Much much more awesome. Pure epicness.

this is good too, and there's an italian version of this song in her album called Harmonia
the song is Umineko no Naku Koro ni -Purgatory- or something

There's actually a longer version of this song. I have it on my shuffle.

Where'd you find it? I've never found anything longer than the length of this song. Was it edited or something?
PCJedi6 2 years ago
bobtheduck was talking about a prolouge that can be added to the beginning of this
acehigh31 2 years ago 4
Nope, this is the full length. Some shorter ones have been edited. Just like the openings of the anime, in fact it's a full song - but it's edited.
MadelonVanBommel 2 years ago
yeah but It's only longer by like a minute right?
DarkxSeinenxOtome 2 years ago
@DarkxSeinenXOtome Yeah pretty much. Its just a proluge that lasts...about...1 minute. :p
