to:Diotima555 My friend do not mix two different things. People was always admiring beauty of art, but not wealth of aristocracy. This palace is one of the World masterpieces built by Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Also it was destroyed to the ground by Germans during WW2 and rebuilt by Soviets after it.
btw Pushkin is my native town and I used to live at Sadovaya 6 street in front of this Palace. Sweet old times.
Lovely video, wonderful location, perfect musical background (Mozart is always appropriate) and about the most fabulous historical character - Catherine the Great
Thanks for making this lovely video available to us - Added as a favorite!
I would live there in a landshot! and the Last of the Romanovs never lived in this Palace Alexander, Olga and Tatiana turned into a hospital during the war
It was not over the top for it was built in the style of Western European architecture of the time (ex. Versailles Also, at the time of Catherine's rule Russia was one of the greatest powers in Europe, adding 200,000 miles to Russia's territory, so the palace had to suite its suitor.
Much, much, MUCH better as all the reports I see on Youtube. I like the slow movements.

At first people condemn and want to destroy the wealth of the aristocracy, then later in time they come all to see and praise it as their cultural heritage...

I don't really like the Russian rococo architecture.. It's a bit too much.
Although I like the exterior. Very fresh and brightening. (:

Russia is so beautiful! The Catherine Palace is even better than the legendary german castles.
13Czarina 2 years ago
The statue at the very beginning of the show is not of Peter the Great but Francesco Rastrelli, the architect who designed the Palace.
This is not criticism, I love the video and the selection of music.
