good isabella, great angelo, HORRIFIC camera work! for a start, up-the-nose angles are never flattering to anyone, and also, could we please have a look at the actors when they're ACTUALLY SPEAKING? finally, the glare. i'm blinded. i'm sending the camera crew the bills for my laser surgery. for pete's sake.
other than that...i liked it. david tennant really can't be beat, am i right?
I saw this a while ago but it's so much better if you've read the play. Measure for Measure's really good but it definitely has it's dark points and this is one of them. David is fantastic in this. Awww! Love that he does Angelo in his natural Scottish accent. I like that he's modernized the inflections a bit. It makes it interesting. I disagree with the commentator. I really didn't like the the way they filmed this. At some points, you couldn't even see the actors. The camera was all over.
Even though he seems like an asshole in this, he has me droolling in that white suit of his. God, he's so good at shakespeare! He just breathes life in to the words so I can actually understand the storyline.
...oh, and this may be immoral but if I knew the only way to save a dying brother was to get with HIM, I'd probably make my brother sick in the first place to do it.
@FairyFlossHunny 'this may be immoral but if I knew the only way to save a dying brother was to get with HIM, I'd probably make my brother sick in the first place to do it'
I am wondering, was this intentionally shot with the whites of their clothing being so stark? Or did someone forget to do a white balance before filming?
Thanks for posting this as usual its a joy to watch anything with DT.
I love Shakespeare and this is one of my absolute faves but I always get annoyed with the actors unless their Brits. American's just cannot effectively do the Bard like Brits can. David Tennant is an impeccable actor, as well.
DT in a villainous role! He plays a villain so little, but he plays such a good ba*tard! He's even sexier when playing a ba*tard. Like a Shakespearian Brendan Block (re: Secret Smile).
An aspect I have trouble grappling with is (if in the time of the plays debut, females roles were still being played by men) how the role of Isabella must have been portrayed by a man. I just can't imagine the frailties and sensitivity needed for the role being expressed by a man. It's very odd to think.
*sssqqquuueeeee* ^^ David is so amazing and really is such a extremely talented actor and extremely cute!! ;D he is such a natural at Shakespere!! ^^ He can play any role you throw at him wonderfully! :D Thankyou soooooo much for sharing this!! :) David Tennant is so amazing and sexy playing this villian ^^ *swoons*
I've heard audio recordings of DT in A Comedy of Errors (as Antipholus of Syracuse) and Romeo & Juliet (as Mercutio) and now this. Each time, I've been so impressed with his ability to bring real life and immediacy to words written four hundred years ago. He's really an amazing actor.
I can't wait to see him as Hamlet in London next January. I only wish I hadn't dawdled and had made the decision sooner, when I could have seen Hamlet *and* Love's Labours Lost in Stratford instead.
Is this from In Search of Shakespeare released on DVD in 2003? I would like to find this sereies to show to my son and daughter who are both interested in theater.
David is a brilliant Shakespearean actor. Hamlet was incredible, not just for David but he is my favorite choice for the part. My friend doesnt enjoy Shakespeare, but even she was impressed by Hamlet. I would love to see him in more RSC works, especially Benedict in Much Ado About Nothing, more of Measure For Measure, and Iago in Othello. Thank you so much for posting this, amazing work!! David shows the diversity necessary as an actor, my 11 year old son admires him for this.
Oh my goodness!!! Where did you find this?!! This was the first thing I ever saw David in as it was shown in an English lesson because we were studying measure for measure before blackpool and casanova were broadcast. I wondered if I had imagined it but obviously not. Thanks for finding it :)
They're both really good actors, and I think they play this scene really well, but seeing Angelo in a white suit makes me think of 'Mike and Angelo', that rubbish kids tv show from the '90s with the alien that could climb walls.
kill the guy with the camera!!!! jeez, he hadn't anti-reflex lens!? btw love DT in villainous roles :D

I know it's wrong, but David is so hot when he's evil. Who is the actress? She and David are really good together.

He is so incredibly talented!! And it shows, because he makes Shakespeare look so easy, where as you know he spent hours perfecting his performance.
Thank you for posting this.

I've always though he'd make a good Iago, he has the swiftness and ease with language that would make him perfect.
