guess what he means is linux = Mac + Windows in OS features. Which is pretty much true. It's open source, so people will take all the features in other OS'es that they like and implement them in linux. If the linux devs spent some time trying to not be windows and macs and instead actually made a system that differed from the two it might actually draw a crowd. Windows has lots of users cause it's windows.. Mac's have quite a few users cause stuff works.. and linux got a few users cause its free

and because people like to tinker. Productivity on a linux box is equal to zero though, if you do anything but servers and networking or programming. Sorry to say that macs do absolutely everything better than linux when it comes to music/video/graphics. Sorry, gimp really doesn't cut it.

As a student, and a java programmer, i prefer windows and java because it is easier to code and do my simple school work on. I don't need all the fancy extra frills that apple provides, i just need a simple machine to get work done. I'm thinking about switching to linux because it is very interesting and unique. Besides, once mac pc's become the norm, hackers will target mac not pc computers, so mac pc's will have all the problems of windows... it's only a matter of time.

I odnt argue that the mac will eventually will become suseptible to viruses, but for me, as a student in high school, who wants to go to a design institute, the mac is just right, because well, i like media, and being able to control my computer (more than windows, although less that ubuntu, for the obvious) and when it comes to ilife, i odnt think anything really matches up, espsially, for stock programs, (and yes i have attemted to program 1 or 2 programs on a mac, didnt work that good...) :)

The OS' name is Ubuntu Edgy (it is reputed as being very easy to use for beginners). It does cost absolutely nothing (that's one of the major advantages). It has its own programs (audio, video...). However, if you absolutely need a specific Windows program for which there is now Linux version, the Windows program can still be simultated under Linux, as if you were under Windows (even big video games can be run under Linux that way, with nearly no performance waste).

Linux requires a lot less RAM than Winblows. On a machine with a lot of RAM you can do 10 times more eye candy and all. Also you can have open as many programs as you want with no freeze. Try that with Winblows! I play music, have OpenOffice going, watch a movie and surf with 12 tabs open in Firefox. Try that with Microsloth. You'll be looking at blue. Lemmings.

Kiba dock is docking desktop panel. But there is compizfusion (Beryl + Compiz together) and effects are more amazing. I left kiba dock and I've AWN (Avant Window Manager) better than kibadock.

Wow, I heard Ubuntu is a great Linux OS and I can see why, this is amazing. But, having all those graphics and animations on the desktop means that the OS aint much capable of playing Microsoft games such as Halo or any other video game, right?
