Certainly once you're a full fledged SEAL, you have opportunities down the road to go train "with" units like SAS, SBS, Jagers, etc. One of the retired Master Chiefs at Don's courses did a tour with the SBS while he was a SEAL.

Master Chief, I'll never be even half the man you are. I have a minor health problem that prevented me from joining the military in any form. It's no big deal since I got an education and found other ways to help my country (like learning 3 dialects of Persian, as well as Modern Standard Arabic). I hope to one day raise a son who will be a fully able bodied "pipe swinging badass" like yourself.

In other words, I find you to be a great source of inspiration, even though I'll never be a SEAL.

I think some mention should be made of the US Navy SEAL's Wife Club. When the husband and father are gone who knows where and doing who knows what for about 250 days a year, it can be very hard on the family life.  By the way, the Chief has a good looking wife. I do think he deliberately avoids buying her classes lest she discovers how truly ugly he is :-)

@1990PatMorrison Things were a lot different back then as to today. When Don was in the Navy, SEAL Team was not nearly as well known as it is today. It is very difficult to get orders for BUD/S now because so many young guys want to be SEALs, and so the Navy only selects the cream of the crop to go to training. And even so, most of those guys won't make it. Don, Fuch, Mark, Bill, and the rest of the guys who instruct at ESE did, and all excelled in SEAL Team...

As far as killers go, the SEALS are tops! The risk of death is too muh for the pay, though. Any "real" combat vet knows battle is not a good thing and patriotism is pretty far down on the list when engaged in a firefight.
