This was stunning - it seemed to me the young ladies in the front row were a bit overcome by the magesty of this performance - the "out of tune-ness" and the imperfections only added to the charm.
My Mum fell in love with Highland Cathedral a few years ago. Hence it has been played at the funerals of some of my dearest maternal relatives. It makes me cry. This version, however, made nails on blackboard or chewing on cotton wool seem an attractive alternative!
The organist is pretty good - she's at least keepin in time with his 'improvised' version. sgknexmaker ur absolutely right - sounds like this guy made no attempt to tune the drones or even set his chanter reed - the whole thing is way out of tune, i may be wrong but they look like MacCallum's so they should have a nice crisp sound with the organ.
next time you play with an organ tune ur chanter to 440 and your drones to concert Bb ... hopefully it won't sound as bad at the next wedding.
You know what the conditions were. Was it was a surprise and he had to hide under the pew until he played? Had someone reach up and change his drones or he hit them on the door on the way in? Maybe it was 90 degrees outside but the A/C was at 55? If its McCallum it explains everything as McCallum is inarguable crap. Tuning the chanter to 440 (concert A) and the drones to Bb (467 and change) is the kind of advice one might expect from someone who doesn't really know what he is talking about...
I don't understand why people can't tell bad from good when it comes to bagpiping...It bothers me like no one could understand... Although the organ helped cover up his drones pretty well.
Best rendition of 'em all!! A goosebumper and tear-jerker all in one! Too bad, though it ran out. Was hoping organist pulled all the stops for the last chorus......
Is there any chance I could get my hands on the organ sheet music used in this video? I'd love to get an organist to do this with me one day.

the organ is what makes this song truly what it is! The organ humbles all other instruments!

The Piper should tune his drones.thats the whole problem. He plays it very good, but the Drones ruined a little bit :-(

@Eragon2811 I played it with the drones corked to stop all those horrible harmonics going on behind my left ear

I love this music, modern yet in the Scottish/Celtic style, somehow it stirs my soul or the Scots part of it anyway.

He doesn't look real old to me. Maybe he has only been playing for a short time? I think he sounds very good for his age group.

Great. Now I know what the opening song at my wedding will be. Only a few months from now on. I'm getting nervous.

playing this solo on a pipe organ is brilliant especially when you use full organ at the end

Great job. Organ with single bagpipe is in my opinion the best interpretation of this piece.
