commanderelvlys his name was tom baker. I love ALL of the Doctor Who's I've ever watched. Tom Baker's I grew up with. Chris Eccleston's I recently found and loved. David Tennant's I've just gotten started on. I've not seen any earlier than Tom's. None of the 80's-90's versions. I'm sure they're pretty good. What DW show isn't!
2005 was the best (Christopher Ecclestone) by a country mile, injected more of an essence of urgency, emergency and danger into the series. Anyone care to disagree and explain why? or shall we just agree? ;)
Although Ron Grainer got the credit for writing this theme, most people connected to the BBC radiophonic workshop are adamant that it was actualy composed and recorded by the resident genius Delia Derbyshire. Listening to her other compositions I would have to say her style is written all over it. There are some good interviews with Delia here on youtube. She was a leading light in the "musique concret" genre and sadly no longer with us. Thanks for your great post.
It is really easy to see when the different ages kicked in, The 60's 70's The 80's & 90's and of course today's Its the same with the Doctors... and their outfits =]. I liked the first one, because its spooky and i like the 4:53 and 5:21 because of their good theme/tune. I know dont why but i particularly enjoyed 4:09... maybe because its so triumphant... Good on you for getting this together!
This is greatness, almost a heavenly experience, maybe olny some people achives the conection to that place ,where all can be possible with the eyes closed and the mind free of money ties and distances measurements, light speed is not faster than fantasy, and fantasy becomes a reality when you release hate and fear,I am the number 5555 who likes this masterpiece .........
Although this is good wasn't this originally done (very well I might add) by a fan (and his brother)? What happened to the original video, was it exterminated by the BBC?
I love how you can see the varying sensibilities of the five decades this show's been on. Like, yup we've hit the eighties - now the nineties, and oh, now the gritty 00's reboot.
interesting ... i didn't know that they used a different arrangement for the early Jon Pertwee years. the 3d doctor episodes that i've seen all used the arrangement for the first two doctors. i guess that this was only in the UK then?!?
@tsartodd That's the abandoned Delaware synthesizer version. I think it was abandoned at the last minute before broadcast, but some of the prints that were sold overseas included it accidentally, hence its inclusion here for the sake of completion. :)
@hugamumfterwoof cant stand the new Dr. it sucks. the Best were late 70's till Collin Baker was done. Then Sylvester McCoy was great. Then the movie so-so. Then the next 2 where great!! Matt Smith no thanks.
my favorite will always be the one with tom baker, but the one with the 9 and 10th doctor i love cause ITS SO MUCH FUN TO PRETEND YOUR ON A ROLLERCOASTER havent watched the series with matt smith yet :/ starting to.
I love all the themes because they each suit their own Doctor. The first theme was alien and mysterious, just like the First Doctor. Tennant's theme suited the series' 'epic' feel of the time, and the new one reminds me of Eleven running around in the burning TARDIS, saying 'No! Not good!'
All the themes are fantastic and suit their eras. Can we stop fighting about which one is the best?
I watched Doctor Who 1963 the first episode. Two of the people watching saw a part were a dude pressed a button in the TARDIS and it was so trippy, so they were like whoa someone pressed the acid button. XD
@MegaRazorback Totally agree. That is why I was happy when the BBC changed it to the cool one that they had through the 10th Dr. After that though, the new one is kinda lame xD
@SamuraiX6288 Hello, not sure as to what you are listing to my times show Sylvester McCoy, what his theme is the main opening with added ending from Tom Bakers time when they had to many Credits to show. So he added it to his beginning.
I was born in '92, and I only begun watching doctor who about a year ago. Many people ask me if I started with Matt Smith, I say nay.... Hartnell all the way kiddies :3 I do love the darker overtones of the older doctors, but I love the humor of the newer ones as well. so I guess I'm a neutral on the subject of it all (not to mention most of my male relatives look like an incarnation of the doctor in some way or form ^ ^')
Since Billie & Christopher left I stopped watching, Chris was eccentric and clever, after him it just focused too much on sexual tension and ridiculous stuff.
