  • On my funeral song list!!

''on moth eaten armchairs she'd say that she'd sod all the friends who had left her to drink from the bottle''..........what a fantastic line!!!

  • drinks to remember,I ME AND MYSELF.

  • i wonder if it was a genuine mistake in the second verse, or did he intentionally sing " she crossed the ocean " instead of " she moved to his prairie " ? maybe he didnt want to offend any potential little house on the prairie fans in the audience lol...saw glenn live a few years back, one of his accoustic sets , absolutely brilliant , still got the voice . Squeeze have to be the most underated band of the 80s

  • total class child hood memories too on this

  • memories, good and bad .... but it good to remember ... older you get more you appreciate ....

  • Skit bra ;-I)

  • The best band live that I've ever seen. These guys have no rivals.

  • utterly fantastic, what a tune, i hadn't heard this for a long, long time and i'd forgotten how brilliant these guys were. thanks for posting

  • So good, there should be a law against this kind of brilliance. :D

  • love songs like this that tell a story...great band and song live

  • Top tune, top band

  • awesome.

  • See Squeeze with Turin Brakes on Fri 29th July @ the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich!!! greenwichsummersessions.co.uk

  • does anyone know what glenn does in the chorus... that guitar run. it sounds so good but i'm stuck with it. IF you do, please let me know, much appreciated. Great song. Cheers FRANZ4EVA

  • Amazing lyrics, and an amazing song, really moving, She moved home alone without friends or relations and lived in a world full of age reservations, moth eaten armchairs shed say that she'd sod all the friends who had left her to drink from the bottle. fuck i could do with a drink or two about now.

  • wicked ive seen this band many times. come bk jools

  • I was student in UK at the time. Absolutely love this band. Sad thing though I never made it to any of its concert

  • All time favourite, amazing voice, great song!

  • Brilliant song, Tilbrook sounds very much like Neil Finn from Crowded House.

  • @celtno1 sorry Neill Finn sounds like Glenn Tilbrook

  • Saw them perform last night, glad to say after 28 years they have actually got EVEN better!!!!

  • Just like they do it at the Grand Ol' Opry. Perfect.

  • Simply Excellent!

  • Heartbreaking

  • rockin

  • Crowded House made a whole career out of this sound....maybe I´m being unfair but you can't help thinkin it sometimes. Maybe both bands were just both mining that mid era beatles sound.

  • seeing them in November, can't wait

  • vocals are just perfect dont make em like they used too

  • Was shocked to see how superb theses guys were live.

  • Flawless.

  • wicked - what a voice!!!!!!! glen

  • East Side Story-brilliant.

  • These songs by Difford and Tilbrook have held up over time. The most talented songwriters who get the least public attention. I think they like it that way.

  • This ones for you Auntie Debra.. Miss you loads xx

but i gues i am lucky to xx

  • What brilliant lyrics -takes me back to my young, free and single days -Donna

  • christ its amazing how a song can bring all those memories flooding back. a lot has happened in the 27 years since ,all of squeezes songs all make sense now! glad i saw them in thier prime a couple of times ,me and the ex wife went ,that says a lot !

  • Just reading the Jools Holland autobiography at the moment. Then remembered this song, probably not heard it for 20 years. Sounds even better now then it did then. Squeeze were an absolutely fantasic band. The lyrics in this song really cut home - so simple so effective and so moving. Definately a song that is timeless.

  • Man, the memories this band's songs bring to my mind almost make a 44 year old cry.

  • Yep, me too...except I'm 45, you young whippersnapper. ;)

    Squeeze songs are timeless.

  • Great song. Wish I could sing like that.

  • go on glenn.

  • now that`s how ya sing live

  • Wonderful song. I know this lady.I think we all do

    Mick :o)

  • such a sad, sad , song.

  • Indeed, very sad. Loved this as a kid but never realised the import of it. Now 40, have had hard times, and I can see how life can grab you that way. Bravo Squeeze! Bring on Cool for cats :-)

  • yeh sad song but beautifully sung. is this jools holland's band??

  • he was in it...........

  • definately underestimated , great music from paul and sean west cork ireland

  • this is probably the best country music type song ever recorded.

  • I was lucky to see them 6 different times in the early years. I saw them when they toured for cool 4 cats(dr. pepper show at the peir N.Y.) argy bargy 1x east side story 2xs & sweets from a stranger 2xs-3 different keyboardests Jules holland-paul carrack & don snow john bently(bass) drove the band-they kind of went down hill when he left one of the greatest underated bands LONG LIVE SQUEEZE!!!! P.S. If you like squeeze -check out CROUDED HOUSE too

  • Squeeze: the probably most underestimated band of all times.

  • @stamatis53 ABSOLUTELY!!! Difford and Tilbrook have been every bit as prolific as McCartney and Lennon...and less self absorbed.

  • @stamatis53 totally agree criminally underrated, top band, great inventive songwriters too.

  • @stamatis53 , your so right

  • @stamatis53

i totally agree with you there. very underestimated as songwriters too. always loved squeeze and their social lyrics.

  • cant stop watchin, halfway through glossing boys room!

  • Great song!

  • they wrote some fine fine songs

  • It's poetry in motion......

  • One of the Most Underated Bands..Shame too many people only relate to them with Cool For Cats...And i agree with the other poster who said how lucky we were to have been around for the 70's and 80's....So Much Great Music...Not Just Bad Fashion and Big Hair:):)

  • Great tune.

  • poetry in song. I still love listening to them. How spoilt we were in the 70's/80's with so many good bands who could actually compose & write beautiful original lyrics.

  • 100%

  • Nice to see there are still those out there who can tell the difference between the good the bad or even the worst!! Thanks

  • Just the best from a great group.wow that does it for me

  • How good is this track! ... Class!

  • with you all the way!!

  • This is amazing. One of the best written songs (poems) of all time. Anyone know off-hand if they're in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame yet? Of course, I could just Google it, but I am spontaneously putting this out there. Just a Yank from Southern California who knew they were great in '82 but didn't have many opportunities to see them live. Phenomenal.
