  • good to see that not everyone leave of their own when they are under attack. respect for Specter.

  • When I posted, no comments were viewable, so to clarify with whom I agree...with the senator, I meant to say, not responding to some comment.

It is too bad that we are getting so thin-skinned that an innocent comment by a good man at a birthday party for a very old man caused such a terrible feeding frenzy. We're the losers for it!

  • I agree! Absolutely a great man sacrificed on the altar of PC who should be now in Congress. I have met the man, and he is a superb individual and a true gentleman. Forget Strom Thurmond...IF TRENT LOTT were in the White House NOW, the country would be a lot better off!

  • funny how this democratic party leader in Pennsylvania now has to watch democratic party leaders attack trent lott all over again as they try to justify harry reid's white negro label of barak obama.

  • everyone is racist to some degree. Jewish people lead the way in racism.

  • Anyone who would make a statement like, "Jewish people lead the way in racism," are bigots.

  • Newman:

No, just an observer. I'm sure you are a jew. Its a common jewish practice to label people playing on their sense of decency, which jews lack. It is a fact that jews are racists, and religious hypocrites. Would you like to regurgitate another practiced response to a common theme? While effective in the past, these arguments you present have lost their validity.

  • No doubt you are sure of many things.

    88.

  • Yes , Jewish people lead the way in Racism and rabbi molestations via metzitzah. Any thoughts?

  • When I read mindless drivel like yours, Ich kann gar nicht so viel fressen, wie ich kotzen möchte.

  • ✞ all finished are we? ✞

  • bored

  • עס סימז דער איד איז לוסינג י.ק

  • Is this supposed to interest me?

  • Believe it or not.......I couldn't care less.

    Idiot des Tages

  • haha olympia snowe in the back

  • Pat Toomey 2010!!!

  • Big mistake. As much as I disagree with Senator Specter's vote on all of the bailouts and the stimulus I plan to vote for him in the primary soley for seat retention purposes. If we nominate Toomey then we will trade a centrist Republican for a liberal Democrat. I also agree with Arlen Specter' smoderate views on the social issues.

  • Anyone who supported war in Iraq, the slaughter of thousands of children and women, is not a moderate. Specter and Snowe did it.

  • I oppose the Iraq War (which is why I supported Ron Paul), but what about Hillary and John Kerry? They're pretty liberal and both supported the invasion.

  • Just , exactly, is this slaughter? Are you talking about what Saddam did to his people?

  • hes right...even if lott is a racist, he was ultimately saying happy birthday to a 100 year old man.

  • Agree 100%. I guess these days our 1st amendment dosen't apply to racists (who are non-violent). Not that I endorse it (I favor civil rights legislation for all), but if Trent does, so be it.

  • Does the Senate do this on every comment made by every Senator? This is the third video I've seen of a senator denouncing the Democrats for attacking Lott. Don't they have bills to pass, or something else we ELECTED them for?

  • for the record specter was denouncing republicans. lott was mainly criticized by his own party, who wanted to see him gone.

  • Specter's right. The democrats were just playing the race card. Look how the Clinton's are playing the race card now. Democrats have a history of it, and it's disgusting.

  • except it wasn't the democrats who criticized lott...it was mainly the republican party and the president.

  • This is the douche that hates the Patriots. He should stick to politics like the rest of his fellow creeps.

  • There was no overreaction to Lott's comments. Segregation was wrong, his comments implied otherwise and Lott got hell for making them. Americans don't allow people to get away with retrograde palavering anyomre. Despite appearances, we strive to be better than our parents in essence.

  • Iran and the US both have problems. I'm not sure that liking a baseball player is good enough reason to like Iran, but it's good enough for you and that's fine.

Topic is Trent Lott and Arlen Specter though...

  • Politicians should be put out to pasture and there should be term limits and age limits - not allow some old racist bastard to continue in there and have his cronie buddies stand up for him.

  • Sen Specter, you're my favorite republican from your principled work and bipartisanship on the Judiciary committee...but really, though you are a consummate diplomat on the floor, you don't have to spend political capital to defend this guy. He let his good ole boy mouth runneth over, and he gets to swim in it.

  • I think he might be a closet racist. He voted to confirm judge leslie southwick, a known racist, to the federal bench earlier this year. I watched the debate on that subject, and he didn't speak, he simply voted 'aye' and allowed our judicial system to become even MORE unfavourable to poor black youth. I'm often impressed by Specter's work, but the more i learn, the less i'm impressed by his charactar.

  • I think Specter and Leahy are the best team on the hill.

  • i know. i really like him also (most of the time). but i just cant figure this out. i mean it's one thing to say hey, he's my friend and i dont think he really understood what he said. it's another to say "i havent seen any greater display of character" after the man clearly said racist things. i just dont understand.

  • President Bush tying to defend Sen. Specter's statements....

"er.. um... In other words.... In other words... ummmm, err.. In other words..."

  • Don't these senators have something better to do like represent us? Why are they always busy explaining what they said. We know they are all pieces of shit, they don't owe us an explanation there. I'd like an explanation as to why they keep shitting on our constitution though.

  • Maybe those people pay better attention to political news that matters, instead of fluff like this :)

  • This is all starting to sound like a preemptory defense strategy or an attempt to pad a hollow leaders CV so he can get that great lobbying job and then help his other buddies who are also about to retire. Is there a decent statesman among them?

  • Not Specter - I thought it was kind of sane.

  • "To uh uhhh, continue in the Senate, and uh u'really move uhhhh u'as a member without leadership credentials was to' his enormous, enormous credit". He's sorta right; a racist octogenarian in a Rascal doesn't have leadership credentials. Make sure Arlen doesn't speak on my behalf when I'm gone...

  • Has the Senate nothing better to do with its time than engage in mutual fellatio?

  • 95% of our current politicians are a JOKE. From what I've seen now the Republican party has become a HUGE threat to us and others around the world. It's as if a bunch of corporations and laywers are running this country (into the ground). DID YOU KNOW FOOD PRICES WENT UP A WHOPPING 40% in ONE year! That my friends is INSANE!

  • Sad comment on current state of repub party...he was a disgrace, a liar, and what else...oh yeah an apologist for 300 years of human slavery. One more down.

  • Trent Lott is leaving after a very long career in the Senate, and apparently he has no accomplishments, because all his colleagues are doing is honoring by saying, basically, "his support for a segregationist was totally misconstrued!". What a remarkable career.

Trent Lott, adios, have fun lobbying these jackals next year.

  • Here is the comment that Sen.Lott made at Sen.Thurmond's 100th birthday bash: "I want to say this about my state: When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either."

  • Can you put this video in more context by including the comment that he is referring to.

  • google it...

  • I did but everyone who watches this shouldn't have to just know what we are watching.

The clip should be put in context.

God I hate self righteous asses.. Google it.. no shit.

  • agree

  • In 2002, Lott lost his Senate Republican Leader post after he was quoted praising the staunch segregationist Strom Thurmond during Thurmond's 100th birthday party. "I want to say this about my state: when Strom Thurmond ran for President, we voted for him," Lott boasted. "We're proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either."

  • At the time there was a big states rights movement. Not all of the people that supported it were doing so out of racism. I was in the public school system when the Feds took over to mandate busing and it was not a problem it was a disaster. Right thing to do wrong way to go about doing it.

  • And how funny how everyone that defends him doesn't mention what are they defending him about.

  • Yep.

  • Racist defending a Racist!
