Forget collecting -- just play! Magic's got streamlined, consistent rules and is one of the best intellectual games ever created. Sure it's addictive to some extent, but you don't have to compete at tournament level. You can build a plethora of decks for $20-30, so find something you enjoy and have fun!

@EVILOVERLORDZETTA i live in mtl too and go to a school packed with mtg players, most of them arent very dedicated players that dont really know the game and its history that much. there are a few crazy ppl that are 10 yrs old and have REALLY strong decks. I have a pretty good deck right now, its a blue deck, actually its REALLY strong, i whoop most of the kids in my grade. i also have an elf deck and a sliver deck. never played tounament magic, mostly casual play.

Back in 96' 97' ish my local shop had a box of commons 100 for a dollar, I always would sit there for an hour and build a couple of decks for 2 dollars. Its not so cheap any more but they still have common boxes in every shop I've ever been to, so try that guys!

Involves rites of initiation and some card that lets me draw a card for each attacking creature. and lots of cheap goblins!

Really depends on how fast you play, a red deck is worthy of its title if can get its opponent down to less than 10 life before turn 5 begins (My red deck can't do that). If not, a war of attrition begins.

The Old cards are all about planning and strategies. Although new editions offered instead 'benefits' but it's full potential is really not realised as the simple old cards push us to use it imaginatively in all ways possible.

exactly. although i was only 2 or 3 when magic got its start, i play with guys who have been playin it right from the get-go, and the old style is much more interesting than the new cards. but they kinda did have to balance out the cards once it started getting popular. but this is still fun as hell to play, and your right; it really does make you think and strategize. i also like building decks from the ground up, that itself is a science lol

Yes they did. They actually had to animate the blood as the the buckets of blood they splattered on the glass didn't look very good. There's another version with me where a dummy is tossed in the air instead of me hitting the glass.

not one of the new plainswalkers, but they did make an Urza character card when they attempted to make a character system for mtg some years ago. You would chose a main character as your essence like in Dragon Ball Z and the main personality. With Urza you had 1 less card in your maximum hand size but started with 10 extra life. There were a number of cards like this made, but never really circulated due to a poor reception.

Fallen empires, the dark, and homelands were all kinda pitiful... Me and my brother had a lot of those though because they were all a dollar a booster at the time so thats what we got! lol
