I found an old old reminants of what was a cabin; it was covered with 6-10 inches of moss.
Near this area, I found a creek with plenty of quartz and you could see the silver (blackend in color) I sat down on a rock near this old cabin...looking towards this trickling creek. And I noticed a LARGE (3.5-4 ft dia.) spruce with initials TM carved into the side. One could tell that these initials were carved a LONG time ago. I think a woman, Tiley Malcom (not sure) once spend time looking for gold?
Yes there was a expedition of made of all woman who tried to find the mine they got there hands on what they believed was a map to the mine made by Jackson himself one of the first founders of the gold. Can you tell us more about the location of this cabin?
@Crom2000 Not an easy place to describe the location;would have to show/point one in theright direction; I'm thinking if there were a mine in this area,it might be buried/covered,This cabin was most likely built in the1800s;Being a bit of a rain forest area;over-burden grows fast;but for a wood cabin to collaps to nothing more that a barely noticable bump under moss and bush, takes years;I never returned to this location, moved away';but think about the possobilitie of finding something
Can you remember any names at all.. Like names of creeks in the area? Were you on the west side of the lake the east side? The Upper Pitt or the lower Pitt?
The masonic symbol in the vid has nothing to do with religion its been suspected that perhaps the masons where behind the looting of a site way in the Upper PItt mountains near Iceworm creek. So I used there symbol to stress this.. Perhaps a education in symbols is a good idea before jumping to conclusions. Thanks for watching and commenting though.
ok what i have found is this. Cronin wrote the letter to a man called Conner Wakefield who was his partner and backer at the time. this was in the mid 1899 just before Cronin packed up and left his operation. his other partner Jake Holly, was off at another claim the two were planning to work. Holly later died at the other workings when a tunnel caved in. Cronin wanted to stay and work a little farther but did not get the funds and left.
@infinus5 soon after leaving the area, cronin headed to smithers bc and in 1901 began work at the babine bonanza mine where he was badly wounded. there is no other info on Holly or on cronin. in the smithers region he worked at least 30 small mining operations and made alot of money from galena. his mine is now infamous in the region due to an accident at the bonanza in 1912.
my job in the summer is as a museum researcher and while i was going through some old records here in smithers, i found a note from a man called James Cronin. Cronin was talking about an addit in a ravine near Pitt Lake that a friend had been working. Cronin mentions this a week before he is gravelly wounded after falling off his horse at the babine bonanza mine near smithers BC. could he have been talking about this mine?
Its not the lost mine of Pitt lake but there is more than one deposit in those mountains. Any more ideas on its location up there? Could be the viking mine or a diffrent adit up there as there are a few.
cronin doesn t say anything on the name of the mine, but he did mention George Slumach. cronin hab been in the area, but haden t found anything of interest.
one sentence from the letterer caught my attention though.
" up from the small steam at camp, in the south facing gullies i came across some old timbering. Jake said its only garbage from a trappers cabin, but i know an ore shute when i sees one."
It very well could be a old flume in creek by the sounds of it but it doesnt help me out. Do you know what side of the lake it was on east or west? Anything that would give a more specific location?
cronin seid his camp was on the west side of the lake, near a large rocky embankment, this inbankment contained a rusted quartz vein that him and a guy called Jake Holly were exploring. they set up a small sluice next to a stream near the embankment. in Jakes account, Cronin went up the embankment, fallowing up the stream to a narrow ravine, the ravine was where Cronin found the timbering and some piles of washed gravel.
cronin wrote the letter that i talked about before to inform one of his friends to expect to not get payed as he had not found much in a years worth of exploring. Cronin was mining the small quartz vein near his camp. he reportedly sank a short addit but the vein ended quickly. Cronin was after what everyone else was after, easy surface gold, which he did not find.
the letter was one of the many things a museum like smithers gets. the letter came in a large drop off of old prospecting notes for the Bulkey Nechako region but i don t know if i could ever find the source as the letter had been in the archives for over a decade
most of the letter is a progress report to a fellow miner down in Spokane Washington.
cronin only said his camp was on the west side of the lake, near a small stream.
BCBornandraised you have no clue. I know the author of this video and i applaud him as the time and effort that it takes to make these vids is exhausting. Crom is a modern day historian who is one of the most interesting individual that i have ever met. At least someone is keeping these amzing legends alive and well. Where were you when we dropped off the last expedition into the Fire Mountain area 4 months ago for the most extensive exploration of the Terrarossa ever. Not with us.
Tell me who is being ripped off by this vid I made and put up for FREE? I hope at least you enjoyed it. The pics are from the quest some have been around awhile but MAN what tell you see the new ones.. But you never will because they will not be released for free in a vid anytime soon.
If someone did find it they are not talking about it. That would be the wise way to go but not talking is not always that easy. The gold is out there...Thanks for watching.
To this day i assume nobody has found it? Or if they have i assume they're not going to tell about it. Interesting story about Slumach, there must be a mother load up there somewhere.
Looking for Slumach's Gold? lol
