  • It sounds like an actual v8 engine!

  • at 2:28, the clatter, was that valve float?

  • @ChuddleBuggy No, it was the fan blades bending back and hitting the nut that holds on the crankshaft pully. Shortly after this video was taken, the fan blade broke off and flew across the room. I had to space it out for clearance and have not had a problem since.

  • Thanks for telling me,that vid was pretty cool,I did'nt know it could spin it that fast and still hold together, neat!

  • how is that dirvin, I am blown away!

  • @66kerekes It is driven by an electric motor. Please see my other videos for details.

  • I already have one I'm just seeing what it's like put together

  • Is it a pressurized oil system and if so did it come like that? If not how did you pressurize it?

  • @dragbird79 There is a external oil pump used. This is a modified engine. See the Visible V8 block video for details.

  • Were can I get one?

  • @flbassfisher14 These are available at Amazon.com for about $50 + shipping. Sometimes cheaper with free shipping.

  • @flbassfisher14 hobby lobby

  • Rotating shafts and assemblies have a natural frequency that they will vibrate at, sometimes several different frequencies and speeds. Designers of rotating equipment will put the critical frequency above the normal speed of the assembly, so you don’t have a problem during normal operation. The Visible V8 did not get the critical speed treatment as it was only suppose to run 100 RPM.

  • at about 4600 it starts to shake but around 4950 it runs smooth again

  • @GhostXoP I never noticed, but you are right, now that I looked at the video again. The odd thing is it is balanced rather well stock out of the box, Never did any balance work to the crank, rods, or pistons. Local heating of the crank pins is more of a problem than any thing else.

  • @slinky460 Probably, then again certain speed for most things shake and then go normal again I built a lego motor (very tiny) at 600 rpm it would shake heavily then around 550 or 690 go fine again. Sometimes theres nothing that can be done about it its just its material?

  • Why is there water leaking out of it ?

  • @ford1979truck It is oil. It has some blow by past the pistons.

  • @slinky460 what does the motor run on? is it electric, water, or air? very neat sounds good

  • @57superchevy Thanks, It is driven with an 120 volt AC electric motor using a Variac speed controller.

  • what are all the things you need to make it run that and how much was everything put together

  • @brxtnck It is complicated to explain everything that has been done to this engine because it is work in progress and there is no book on this. I seem to be writing the book as I go along. I hope to make a video on the whole thing some day. As far as cost, I have spent about $1500 on everything. I have used up several kits @ $50 each plus shipping. I have had no contact with Revell. I had to buy everything my self.

  • Would LABELLE 107 LIGHT MOTOR OIL MEDIUM WEIGHT be appropriate? How much do I need? I see it comes in half oz bottles, will or can the oil pan hold enough oil to get up to the rod caps and bearings without leaking? How much does the pan hold?

  • @ts46176 107 should work. If you are running below 1500 RPM stock, just lubricate before each run. You can use splash oiling up to the levet of the rods, but the pan will leak a lot. Not sure how much the pan holds as I use a pressure and a dry sump system. These engines will run a really long time if you oil before each run and keep below 1500 RPM.

  • 3 questions:

do you need to run oil in it if so what kind

what electric motor do you use

where can i get an oil pump.

  • @02sxviper I would use Labelle plastic safe oil or something similar. I am using a Silicone based oil, but it is very difficult to work with. It is a Dayton 1/2 HP 120 volt AC DC electric motor from Amazon.com. The small120 volt ac oil pump and tubing is from the Mc Master Carr web site. Vegetable oil will trash the engine, long term use. Below 1500 RPM you don't need an oil pump and just lubricate before every run.

  • Great video is that the valves floating at around 4,000RPM?

  • @RickArter The valves don't float until above about 6000 RPM. The clicking noise is the fan blades hitting the generator pully about 4000 RPM. This has since been solved by moving the fan out 1/4 inch. See my later videos for details and updates.

  • Hey, slinky460, do you have any idea why this actually sounds like a v8? is that just the fan on the front?

  • @T3hbassmasta The fan moves a lot of air for it's size, but the V8 sound comes from the exhaust manifolds. It is the firing order of the cross plane crankshaft that causes the V8 sound. Of course it is not actually firing, but all the moving parts are in sync, just like a real engine. It was a surprise to me during early testing that it had this V8 sound. It is really loud at high speeds for such a small plastic engine. The camera really don't capture all the odd sounds this engine makes.

  • How many RPMs can it do before it's modified?

  • @powershadowking Usually about 1200 to 1500 RPM, stock kit. Above this RPM, the failure rate increases. However most people just put a RC truck motor on them and run it about 200 to 1500 RPM and do ok. I would use Labelle plastic safe oil or similar oil as vegetable oil such as Soybean oil will TRASH your engine. A stock out of the box kit, well lubricated, with the right oil, about 200 - 1500 RPM, will usually run a long time. The faster you go, the shorter the lifespan of the engine.

  • Can you use/run it if you put it in a model car type of thing?

  • @TheFightingTwits No, this is about all you can do with it. It produces no power.

  • @slinky460 actually sounds like a v8 u can here it do u put oil in it at all

  • does it run on gas or somthing and how does it do that

  • @2emilysand1sara

I wished it did, however it is driven with an electric motor. It is made of Styrene plastic. It would melt down in a few seconds if combustion was used.

See video Visible V8 @ 5000 RPM #1 - #2 for details on how it works.

  • This thing is so cool...I couldnt believe it that once the rpm's started to climb...it really did sound like a real life V8 engine. Awesome stuff dude.

  • sounds like my suburban lol

  • sounds like a real engine at that rpm, thats awesome

  • WHERE DO YOU BUY THESE ive been looking all over the net for them remember them from my childhood been wanting to build one again

  • @deathbladefromhell99 These engines are available on E bay or Amazon.com under Visible V8. The early 1960 to about 1995 Renwal Kits go for a higher price because they have the electric motor and spark plugs. The later Revell kits go for about $50 on e bay or Amazon.com, however they do not have the electric motor or spark plugs. Many of the parts are interchangeable between the two types of kits.

  • A little plastic engine that runs 5000 RPM. Interesting.

  • @trailertrane The best part is it actually sounds like a real V8!!!!
