I remember buying this album in 1981, and it's brilliant. Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft ? From Germany ?! Apart from Kraftwerk, Germany wasn't known for music, so DAF was a bit of a shock for the UK. Fehlfarben, and others, were unknown in the UK. Then Germany produced the superb Xmal Deutschland...with Anja !
A long time ago, in a magazin, Ralf from Kraftwerk said they were performing "Dusseldorf traditional music". I think that's perfectly true. And also DAF and Die Krupps. Notice, for the fun, that DAF are also the first letter of xname of the Marquis de Sade (Donatien, Alphonse, François).
I love the sound of these older computer generated sounds. D.A.F. was a good band. Minimalist . They didn't like memorable melodies. They never try to give you a hum along song! They were courageous and so sexy when they were young . Us gay boys always liked them !
Well there's nothing wrong with a bit of "window shopping", but I think you'd be putting your health a serious risk if you tried anything on with them !
@lovesGenet Er ... the un-gay community also like DAF .. it was a bit of a guilty pleasure ... except for us more open-minded punks ... we loved them either way ... Fur Immer is so evocative ... Viva DAF
@lovesGenet these are definitely NOT computer generated sounds. you would had to be a very rich or well-connected person to own a computer in 1981 which was able to generate sounds like that... what you hear are are pure analog synth sounds with some very basic delay/feedback effects. superb!
Indeed. They used an "ARP Avatar synthesizer, usually driven by a 16-step analog sequencer" (Wikipedia), and DAF made a brilliant and unique sound. As you said, superb.
...only 16tn one of the first "LP"s i bought..never regret ..great..alles ist gut...forever..

I was also being flippant; it's just that Kraftwerk and Dusseldorf are so linked in my mind. Thanks for upload!

@getthebalancewrong
I've actually been to Dusseldorf, but it was a short visit in 1987.

I love DAF dearly, but surely Kraftwerk are Dusseldorf's finest?

@getthebalancewrong
I was just being flippant ! DAF were better, but Kraftwerk were pioneers.

A lot of bands were influenced by Kraftwerk. I've great admiration for what they did, even if i don't like much of the music.
