I completely disagree. Funktual is a very well schooled and experienced historian of music. Not just hip hop, not just pop, but rock but other genres, too. His appreciation for music is made clear through his "best samples" series. I'm not sure how big of a MJ fan he is, but I do know one thing, he is not the type of person to superficially gloat about something as serious as MJ passing.

Funny, that's the exact same way I was when a friend of mine died. Didn't actually cry til 3 days later. Anyway, I truly miss Michael. The media destroyed that man. i won tickets on the radio to see him in '88 or '89 but he was sick or something so the show it was canceled. i had a date with a girl way out of my league because of those tickets. when i told her they canceled the show she canceled the date. Funny, I was thinking the same. In Germany it obviously wasn't Channel 4, but I was allowed to stay awake extra long for a certain video-clip-show - man, the video was scary, but appealing at the same time. I was 7 at that time.

I think MJs is quite shocking for a lot of people, because he somehow accompanied your whole life, especially for those, who are sometimes referred to as the 'MTV generation'. I've never been a hardcore-fan of his, but I do have a lot of his albums and I liked them.

I think a lot of his work and his persona is somehow 'collective memory'. Even my father, who is not that much into this particular musical style, was shocked when he heard the news.

Sadly enough, I never was on one of his tours, I merely saw an impersonator live back in the 80s.

I'm 48 so Micheal and The Jackson Five have been a big part of the soundtrack of my life.

I still have the Jackson Five's Greatest Hits with the picture frame my uncle and aunt bought me when I was 11. I went to see the movie Ben just to hear the song and rode my bike a few miles to the px on base to buy the single, I Wanna Be Where You Are. I was lucky to see him on the BAD Tour. Micheal never gave less than 110 percent to his fans. He'll be missed but his legacy will live on forever.

I've never been an active fan of Michael, but you can't love Hip-Hop without acknowledging the many reasons it's here and thriving today. Michael was most definitely one of the best entertainers in history, if not the best. He may have been seriously fucked up by his circumstances which may or may not have resulted in poor decision making skills on his part.
