  • nice work, but sound like shit :)

  • One thing I hated developing worse than picking technique is string skipping. Lol there's NO SHORTCUT AT ALL to skipping. Check out The HAARP Machine for a good example. That song destroyed my wrist learning it but very much worth learning

  • felt good being able to do this on a accoustic

  • I love you! :D

  • you fail

  • Thanks man!

  • would this help with your accurate picking? cause i really need to improve on that

  • @Me6adeth01 It will if you practice real slow...i know it sounds crazy but the slower you practice the cleaner and more accurate you will be.set the metronome at 110 and hit 2 (8th notes)2 picks per beat for 5 minuets,it is really hard to pick slow for 5 minuets,if you do this every day i promise you will improve faster than when you practice fast!!!!Good luck and keep practicing....

  • I've been practicing this for a while. Thanks, hope to get faster eventually.

  • Thx man!!! That really helps! \m/

  • @DimonusSathanas Thanks for watching!!!!Keep practicing there are no short cuts to speed picking!!!This is an old video I will put up something new soon,it will also deal with the metronome!!!!!

  • nice lesson.....I you have a 7 string guitar what would all the string names be

  • @eLeCtRoFrEaK0036 It is the same as a 6 string guitar only the 7th is a B...So from high to low it would be......E.B.G.D.A.E.B. Thanks ....

  • I can play 1963938573528729826325529828178 bpm. LOL

  • @Meatalhalic naah you suck you still cant play half of sonata arctica...

  • @HAWXLEADER hater!

  • Thanks alot Rorycorpuss! I've been doing this for 2 weeks, and I can see/hear a diffrence now!

  • @MusicBuch Thats great!!!!Just about to post a triplet(gallop)video.Sepultura style with a metronome as well!

  • lol i can go just a bit faster :P haha

  • I was following this with a 1.5mm pick....needless to say, it hurt like a bitch

  • @DeathMetalIdol I now use .88 green dunlops...a little flexability...

  • @2goXD Thanks....Glad it helped!

  • Bass overload

  • HAT JEMAND MEINE SCHUHE GESEHEN???

  • Lovely Lesson ! Thank you =)

    Kind Regards from Sweden.

  • @ThePanicky Your Welcome!!

  • you need more work with metronome:P

  • where are you fingers on the neck?

  • @morbidgaze I am playing an open E...I am using a 7 string guitar hope that helps.....

  • Thanks man, I'll give that a shot.

  • I can't really tell from the video... is your pinky anchored? I've been playing guitar for about 13 years and recently read that anchoring a finger will create tension. I'm trying to play with a floating hand and it seems like I'm picking up the guitar for the first time. Quite frusterating.

  • @PalantirBlackMetal No its not anchored.I know what you mean about feeling like its new! When I wanted to learn to pick faster there were a few adjustments i had to make from my old way of picking.I am slightly resting on the strings.Try to imagine scratching a dog or cat,i myself dont have either anyway, imagine scratching an animal with your pick in hand start on the low e with that feeling,go real slow till you get the coordination of just hitting that one string,it takes awhile do it everyday

  • @PalantirBlackMetal same here. but out of habit i continue to anchor. but i pick flexing my thumb so theres no tension really. but u take the fast guys like alexi laiho and they all anchor. i dont think petrucci does though. so its fine if it works for you i guess.

  • unfortunately I don't have any one I can talk to about speed/alternate picking in person, so I self teach myself these things. I feel I need lots of correcting :(

  • i dont understand..with holding the pick..if i have it hitting the string on about a 10 o clock angle, it slides over strings easier but the sound is scrape-ie (?) and usually feint...if i hit the strings with the pick on a 9 o clock angle it sounds more strong, but is hard to pick fast. >< I don't understand how i am supposed to use the pick. That it what is holding me back a lot, do you have any advice?

  • @rorcopter Finding the pick angle is something that takes practice as well.If you like the sound you get at 9 oclock,i would say to stick with that and just practice.Picking is one of the things that has no short cut. Here is the way i would break down my practice.

Warm up with chromatic scale for 10 min. Play pentatonic(2 notes per string)for 10 min. Practice 16th note exercise in video for 1 hour to hour and a half every day.Do this every day for a few months and I promise you will improve.

  • @rorcopter Try using a pick with a sharper point. i use Ultex Sharps and it gets precise sound at what ever picking angle ur hand is accustomed to. that helped me a lot almost instantly especially when i started soloing on harder stuff
