  • Is it legal to shoot on public right's of way i.e. a public footpath?

  • Provided its not a footpath through a village green or built up area which would be danderous, yes.

  • Excellent vid. Makes me want to hunt rabbits. Are such wild rabbits edible? Do you eat the rabbits you shoot?

  • Rabbits are edible and some people sell them for food.

    I don't eat them.

  • He is identical to Karl Pilkington...very good video though, I'm just starting off looking into shooting & found your video very helpful thanks.

  • No worries, man

I'll be the first to admit I look like Karl Pilkington.

    lol

  • Karl Pilkington?

  • What was the gun called again? Sorry, im terrible at understanding Awesome accents. Amazing video btw, loved.

  • The gun I usually use in an Anschutz 1517 in .17HMR calibre. The other gun I use is a Ruger 10/22 in .22 calibre.

    Thanks for watching, man.

  • How do you go about finding land to shoot on and then finding rabbits or their sets on that land?

  • Just ask landowners for permission then go looking for rabbits.

  • sub right away! great vid!

  • Is that Soap From Call of Duty? ;O

  • @DonOfB38 no its elmer fudd from bugz bunny lol.. im hunting wabbits..and hes bald

  • i knew this guy is from sunderland from his accent im genius

  • That is the greatest insult anyone has ever passed my way.

Truly deplorable - now I'm going to brush my teeth then throw myself down the stairs in disgust.

  • are you from newcastle

  • Near enough, yes.

Nowhere near the a-hole of the North East (Sunderland)

  • @pondguru thanks for the tips dude im just getting into the sport and i really enjoyed this, got my first rabbits recently and im hooked

  • I'm like that with hobbies. When I was well into shooting I was an assassin, creeping about and sniping from distance with deadly accuracy. I'm well out of practice now since most of my spare time is taken up with metal detecting - a different sort of hunting pehaps?

  • @pondguru my mates are mad about metel detecting, they have found no end of roman gold coind, not worth as much as i thought, about 30 quid he says he can find 5 in a day, have you found out of note

  • Roman bronze coins in decent condition would be worth 30 quid - silver ones more. Gold ones would be worth a hell of alot more as they are totally rare.

I've not found much that is worth any sort of money but planty of interesting bits and bobs. Most are on my 'Metal detecting' playlist on my channel.

  • @pondguru i think my friend has been telling me porkies, but they sure looked like gold really thin tho like a stamp, he has a box with about 40 off them , im confused, i live nr lincoln, all my mates that do it have found them 2, there not lying because i have seen them , they say some are worth alot of money but there rare,

  • They may indeed be gold which sounds awesome.

  • Did you know that rabbit squeeking noise is also very good for calling Jack Russells ? mine heard it a few seconds ago and came running out from his place in front of the fire to see what was ado..

  • Great video, stalking and clean kill is the best way to hunt. Loved the sqeek tip really works

    Many thanks

  • No worries, thanks for watching.

  • the squeek tickles too much man!

  • nice to hear the accent again ....im orriginally from blyth but been living in australia for the last 9 years ....i used to hunt rabbits with dogs lamping at night...... with ferrets and nets....... and also air rifles had some good times i sure do miss doing this ....did you know that you need a licince to use or own a air rifle here in oz . unfortunate i cant get one due to a criminal record

    deano

  • 200 years later and we're still shipping crims down under...lol.

I would imagine that there is some good shooting over there as there are plenty of decent shooting videos from oz on youtube. Used to have ferrets myself but much prefer using rifles now - they smell much better.

If I could offer any advice it would be - don't come back here, it's cold, grey and depressing. Given half a chance I'd be in NZ or OZ myself.

  • would you need an FAC for this firearm?

  • Yes.

  • But why does it attract both

  • Foxes think it is an easy meal and rabbits think it is a predator killing another rabbit so whilst rabbits won't run toward you generally they can pop up out of their holes for a look around or raise up in long grass etc. which will allow you to get a shot at them.

  • I use that call on foxes when I'm lamping ?

  • Yes to attract them.

  • What set up r u using here?

  • 30 seconds into the video I explain about the gun, scope and ammunition.

Did you watch without any volume?

  • @pondguru what a spoon i am lol!! i watch you other vid and couldnt see what setup you had in you info so looked in the info for this one. even tho i did watch this vid a few days ago. what an Ahole. are both non licence rifles?

    ps great videos

  • For both the .22 and the .17 you would need a firearms certificate and jump through hoops to satisfy the inspector who will check safety in your home, cabinet etc.

I really should do a video about how to get a firearm certificate as a few people have asked.

  • Using a weapen and equipment like that is a bit much for shooting rabbits don't you agree? I'm using a 1968 manufactured 5mm pumpaction airgun with ironsight and no bipot and still managed to shoot 9 rabbits last season and not even hunting very often. Try it, I think it gives u a more satisfying feeling when shooting one with the absolute minimum of equipment etc.

  • I shot for years with air rifles and enjoyed it. It is a great way to start as it makes you learn the techniques outlined in this video but for sheer numbers (for vermin control) you need to be taking targets with improved accuracy at range.

Nothing is more satisfying than knowing that the animal has not suffered and has been killed cleanly with a well taken, accurate shot with the correct tool for the job.

  • I want to go rabbit hunting but im in London wheres the nearest i can go to shoot some rabbits?

  • Great vid and thanks for all the tips :)

  • No worries, thanks for watching.

  • Good video mate. Can i just say that All americans and their riduculous methods for hunting give hunting in general a bad name. Dick heads with guns. Fact

  • I'm sure that there are some responsible shooters over there who aren't all gung-ho but they are all tarred with the same brush unfortunately due to the many idiots.

  • Excellent video helped me a lot, nice to see a Geordie lad on here ;)

  • Glad you found it useful. Thanks for watching.

  • @pondguru Is it possible to get real guns in England or just air rifles?

  • We can get quite a wide range of 'proper' guns but none in semi auto except shotguns and .22. No pistols, which bums me out.

  • Do you have racoons? We hunt them here at night with a lamp and 22.

  • Although they would survive over here, no there are none. I don't think they have ever been native here although we've had thousand more years to exterminate all manner of wildlife compared to the time you've had in the US.

  • I like to hunt rabbits too... I live in New England (USA); W have had a resurgence of agressive bears in our area and the ticks now carry lime disease (which can make the rest f your life unpleasant). So crawling around in muck is out and lamping stealthfully at night has certain risks because bears do not like surprises. Bears are quick so you are suppose to offer them your non writing hand to occupy them as you reach for pepper spray. Makes being a hunter being hunted interesting.

  • lol

Most countries don't bother stalking rabbits. In fact most people over here can't see the point either and just whack away with shotguns.

I like to go stealth mode as its amazing what other wildlife you see - although I would crap myself if I saw a bear and only had a little .17hmr to use on it. I would have to hope for a lucky shot on its bell end to scare it away.

  • ello govna

  • Haven't been rabbit hunting in years sounds good with some mash potatoes and gravy! The bobcats around here have been hard on are rabbits and quail! Great video, great sportsman!!!!!

always like hunting with over and under 410ga/22cal! although nothing worse than biting into a shotgun pellet!!!!

  • where is this filmed

  • Just out the back of my house - North east england.,

  • @pondguru kl great vid btw

  • No worries. One day i will actually plan what I am going to say....

  • Excellent video mate, very helpful. Am about to start getting into my rabbit hunting so was interesting to learn a few things off ya. Keep up the good work :)

  • Nice video bro!!! Fully entertaining!!!

  • Thanks for watching and appreciating.

  • good vid, thanks :)

  • I aint no Spielberg but it serves the purpose.

    Thanks for appreciating.

  • Hi, just wanted to say that this is a really good and well put together video! I was fascinated about being able to call the rabbits out so will be trying this at the first opportunity this weekend!

    Many thanks

  • No worries. Best of luck.

  • @pondguru whats up man, I live in the city, there are Rat's like crazy in my alley and I want to teach them a lesson. My question to you is, what rifle should I get to take care of them, I want to do my thing at night and I want something with a scope but whats your opinion. Your suggestions will be very much considered. Thx in advance

  • There are probably plenty of issues regarding the discharge of a firearm in a town or city so I would go with a silenced air rifle. As for what model, I've no idea as its been over 20 years since I owned an air rifle.

  • MrTuber4000 is a tosser

  • first of all, why are you hunting rabbit with a scope and bi pod and second, at 01:36 where would ever come across a wall when hunting?

  • This is a joke, right?

A scope increases rifle accuracy and a bipod steadies the gun for long range shots. Without a scope and bipod, long range accuracy is very reduced to a point of point and hope you hit the target. Much of the UK (esp. Northern England) has fields divided by dry stone walls which are handy for hiding behind.

  • @pondguru Dude there fucking rabits...... when i hunt them all i have to do is walk around with a .22 rem and kick some logs up

  • Kick some logs up.....then shoot at them with a rifle......while they are running away from all the noise?.....

Then hold head in hands and weep because there is nothing to eat for supper except pine needle tea?

  • @pondguru Yes the point of kicking logs is to flush them out..... plus rabbits are color blind so camo doesn't do shit...... and its not like we cant eat if we don't kill....

  • Call me old fashioned, but I believe that the accepted practice is that if you are going to spook rabbits into running away, the gun to shoot moving targets with is a shotgun, not a rifle.

  • @pondguru well if you're a brit and you suck at shooting then maybe yes

  • I would rather shoot 1 rabbit with a rifle than 100 with a shotgun, but not while they are running.

Thats not to say I haven't shot running rabbits with a rifle but I soon grew out of that once I realised that it was a waste of ammo and dangerous.

  • @pondguru Its not a waste of ammo if you hit the fucking things.... and I've hunted rabbit with a fucking bow and your using a hp scope, you don't even know what hunting is.

  • Since bow hunting is unfortunately illegal here, I haven't been able to do that which is a shame but most of the bow hunting I see on Youtube involves morons covered in deer piss sitting up a tree waiting for animals coming into prebaited areas, then wounding them. Actual hunting (stalking a WILD animal) with a bow would be awesome.

Rifles are not for shooting moving game - you have to respect the game and not wound it or you will be considered an ass clown by proper hunters.

  • @pondguru Dude all i'm trying to say is there just rabbits, not moose or bear or deer (ive hunted all of these) and a hp scope camo and a bipod are just plain stupid to use for this type of game...... and yes rifles are for stationary and moving targets,,,,

  • Awesome.

    Rifles are for moving targets??.

Shooting and safety are two words I bet you never use in the same sentence.

No wonder you wear bright clothing over there. Its so people a mile away can see you, scream 'Holy shit, take cover!' then dive into the nearest ditch to hide from the hail of hot lead.

Jesus wept.... and yay, the fool was finally blocked from spreading his blasphemy....

  • I live in Sheffield, I'm guessing you're close by your accent? Lol. How come you can hunt in woods like that? Do you need a permit or anything?

I'm thinking of joining a .22 rimfire club in order to get my FAC and once I've got it, it's shooting outdoors like this that I'm interested in doing. Though I'd rather set up targets as opposed to hunting things. Would I be able to do that, or is there a restriction on it?

    Thanks for the video.

  • No worries,

Once you have a license, provided you have pland (or a club to) you can shoot as many targets as you like. I sometimes set up targets in the field behind my house and it makes for some great shooting.

  • brilliant vid..ty, sir

  • No worries, thanks for watching.

  • well, i have been out had good time some guy helped me zero at 30 yards and i was hitting the targets at 60 yards every time, cant be bad for first day out :)

  • The start of a great journey........

  • This is brilliant thanks for the tips, i needed to watch this as i have just purchased my first gun S410 TDR 177, iam just about to leave my house to go Kibworth shooting ground to get my practice in for the summer. Again thank you and i will be watching more of your videos

  • No worries, thanks for watching and appreciating.

  • Really enjoyed this video, some great tips! I didn't even realise i was watching for almost quarter of an hour as every part was useful and interesting! Thanks for your time!

  • No worries, thanks for watching and appreciating.

  • Great video mate, very helpful.

  • No worries, thanks for watching and appreciating.

  • Really liked your video. I'll be starting rabbit hunting next season. Could you possibly do a video that explains the best places to look for rabbits or the best way to spot a rabbit? (looking for color/shape/movement. Much appreciated.

  • I do intend doing more shooting guides and have plans to mention spotting techniques and shot placement based on rabbit position etc..

As soon as I get time I will make more.

  • @pondguru I'll be loking forward to them.

  • Tried your advice calling the rabbits out.worked a treat.doubled my haul.any advice on foxs,as in time of year, time of day or nite.cheers

  • Foxes can show up any time of the day or night but are primarily nocturnal. Same rules apply if you are on foot or in a vehicle - try to keep downwind and squeak them in. Summer will bring the cubs out and they are so easy to shoot. Quite often they will run full speed at you when you squeak them in so you need to shout to stop them before taking the shot. Its easier to miss a target with a rifle if its too close than withing your normal shooting range.

  • Awesome vid. Loads of great advice. Thanks for sharing. Keep hunting

  • No worries, thanks for watching and appreciating.

  • Cool video! Looks like you have a nice area to stretch out some ballistics. Thanks for sharing!

  • No problemo, thanks for watching.

  • @pondguru thanks for the vid thats a short sniper i like short bolt actions

  • Being short it is easy to carry through rough grass / woodland or swing around in a vehichle.

  • Can u hunt with air rifles? ( I meen legaly in UK)

  • Yes but be aware that the distance you need to be from your target for a clean accurate kill will be based on the power of whatever gun you are using.

  • @pondguru Yes I know that, but here in Romania hunting with air rifles is banned .We can use air rifles only for target practice.I was hoping they will change the law, cose some new air rifles are strong more then enough for small game .

  • I'm not sure what the laws are in other countries - I assumed you were in the UK.

  • @pondguru Here u need 1 ton of paper work, 1 year waiting forhunting licence and small ''cannon '' to hunt small game:)) .Even 22 LR is banned for hunting now.

  • No disrespect mate....but come on...give your self a wiggle.~

I must pop along to the tent center one day and have the crack to you.~

You are just having a laugh here aint you.?

We all need hits on videos but come on !!!!!!!!!!

  • This is the first comment (out of about 10.000) on one of my videos that I can't tell if you like this video, are cussing it, are wondering how to more views or are asking a question. Normally when people loads of exclamation marks in a comment they are trolling me but this doesn't seem like a trolls comment.

Please clarify, man before I pull out what little hair I have left in frustration.

  • u should make a video cause i will buy one

  • If I ever get round to it, I will.

    Thanks for watching, man.

  • Just picked up a Savage 17HMR taking it out tomorrow to zero it in, will have a video camera attached to the scope so I can shoot some footage while shooting.

  • Feel free to add any more vids as responses, no worries.

  • i'm trying to get back into my hunting...having used to own rifles and shotguns a few years back i just gave it up, sold my guns and ended my licenses...biggest mistake ever! lol now i have to go through the motions of re-applying and they want to know the in's and out's of a fart!

  • Yup,

They want the moon on a stick.

  • Went rabbit hunting today and saw nothing, this helped a ton!

  • I think that gun would be illegal where I live (UK) apparently we only can have single shot guns

  • We can get a suprisingly large range of firearms (bolt action) in the UK but only semi auto .22 and shotgun with firearm certificate.

I'd love to have pistols but will have to move countries for that one.

  • @pondguru you can get target pistols

  • Live firing pistols? I didn't know that. I assume they are single shot.

  • @pondguru @pondguru i don't know the ins and outs of it but i am betting you have to do a lot of paper work and pay a lot of money but i reckon you'll see a lot tighter regulations on firearms after the Olympics depending on how England does in the shooting but there are also some very grey areas in firearm laws in the uk for example a revolver with a extended barrel and and stock attached is classified differently to a pistol try having a look on gun trader there some available there

  • Yeah,I've seen them. Look totally pointless to me. I would love a proper pistol - even in .22cal. just for shooting targets in my wood but since some anus took it upon himself to shoot some children a few years ago, I can't legally own one. I wonder why kitchen knives and screwdrivers aren't banned since they are used in most murders in the UK?

  • @pondguru I know you can get single shot rifles and double barrel shotguns. I think you can have pistols but they have to stay in a gun club and not out. There is a gun club and it's called "pistol and rifle club" but could that be air pistols

  • I really don't know. I have never been involved in the club scene.

  • btw i forgot to add i offer free british columbian grizzly bear hunts for peta members all they need to bring is a knife since there so bad ass and i simply put bacon grease on there shoes and get them to walk down old logging roads in the mountains eventualy a bear or mountain lion will catch up to them hopefully more hunting guides offer this free service

  • Epic.

I have the picture in my head - just beautiful.

  • great hunting bro sorry about the miss flame post lol didnt mean to flame youy i clicked on the wrong person lol

  • No worries, man.

I was just going to reel out one of my anti-troll responses until I saw this update. No worries. I assume your response was to johndeereman8820.

I still value his comments as it's always good when a troll takes time out from their masturbation schedule to pass comment on one of my videos.

  • Yah i know the gun is to big i just was out shootin coyotes and thats why i use a big gun cause i got a big cock

  • Members of the jury, I draw your attention to the words 'inversely proportionate' and rest my case.

    No further questions, your honour.

  • Yah whell u shootin rabbits with ur little air gun and me usin a 243 winchester if i was the rabbit i would rather be shot by the 243 cause u wouldnt feel it but it would hurt like a bitch with ur air gun

  • @johndeereman8820 243 Win for Rabbit? Way too much meat destroyed ... 223 is more than enough, 17HMR, 22LR or 22Mag plenty. Its not the size of the projectile ... its shot placement. 243 we use for Whitetail Deer and some feral hogs.

  • It doesnt take that much to shoot a rabit I went out with my 243 winchester in hope of shooting a coyote and i shot a rabbit at 50 yrds free hand none of that laying or bipod crap it isnt that hard and the out hole was 5 inches

  • Yeah, man. I'm pleased for you.

Don't worry about learning the techniques to actually stalk your targets or how to shoot accurately at range just whack away and wound half the animals you hit.

Anyway, a hit's as good as a kill, right?

  • @johndeereman8820 your out hole is 5 inches ?? man how many times can you drop the soap in the shower and not learn !!

ALL quarry deserves respect even rats, poxy yanks get a grip.

  • Great video

  • Thanks for watching and appreciating.

  • only 17 grain. air rifle pellets are 17 grain

  • They are very light bullets but travel at supersonic speed so pack a punch.

  • @THEONLYDEEDMAN 15.5--20 grain same as airgun ammo ye but 1.77 airgun ammo is 8--10 grain its closer to .25 caliber air rifle ammo weight.

  • My fox terrier lost her mind when the rabbit calls started lol

  • Thanks for the vid.

  • No worries, thanks for watching.

  • subscribed

  • Realy nice vid i have a weihrauch hw80k

    Love it

  • 1:12 is it sour young'un haahahaah

  • GREAT vid my friend :)

Very informative, and i must say i was trying your rabbit calls as u were showing them, haha.

Here in southern Alberta Canda, rabbits are not as plentiful as they are where you live. But you still see the odd ones, and im going to use a lot of your tips to get a few!

SOMEONE called you a REDNECK? lmao. They surely dont know what a red neck is!

    Again great vid my friend!

  • Thanks for watching and appreciating, man. I will be doing some more videos as soon as I get my new camera since my old one went kaput so the future videos should be in HD.

  • @someweirdstuff

so I´m actually not alone...I tried the rabbit calls while watching the vid as well :)!

  • Great informational video, thanks! BTW, do the land owners usually let you take the harvest home?

  • Most landowners just want rabbits shot so they have more grass for their sheep and more crops to harvest. What happens to them post mortem often isn't of concern to them although I tend to remove them from view to under bushes etc. so they aren't lying about.

  • how would a pump rifle with lead pellets hold up

  • Provided it was powerful enough to kill accurately at range, as well as any other air rifle I guess.

  • Also, what would you recommend I do if I shoot a rabbit and it doesn't die straight away? Should I try and break its neck or reload and shoot it in the head or what?

  • With an air rifle there will no doubt be times when the first shot doesn't kill but you can minimise the risk by taking side on heart shot or headshots only. If the rabbit is incapacitated you can do the neck break but if it is still able to run, don't run after it or it may get away. Hold postion, reload and finish it off. If it hears you chasing after it it will run away but will stay put if it doesn't hear or see where the shot came from.

  • Hello pondguru im getting a air rifle soon I am 16. When I am 18 I want to get a rifle (I know I could get a Shotgun now) I was just wondering what would you recommend as a good starter rifle thats fairly cheap and not hard to find?

  • Rimfire .22 I like the ruger or CZ as they are so common parts are cheaper than some rarer more expensive types - second hand prices are quite low too. My ruger was second hand and I just customised it over the years.

As far as air rifles go, its been so many years since I had one, I wouldn't know what to recommend.

  • REDNECK

  • Yeah, man. No worries.

    Thanks for watching.

  • Does rabbit hunting require a permit?

  • In the UK, no.

In the US, Christ knows. It will most likely differ from state to state.

  • where can i buy that gun

  • I got mine from south yorkshire shooting supplies. I have put the link to their website in the description of this video. I recently got an awesome thumbhole stock for this gun from them. There is a review of it in my shooting playlist.
