when she wasn't dressed as nice, not only was she around less people, but she was also acting as if she was crazy.. If she had acted the same for both of her disguises, she may have gotten better results.

The single, underlying law ... of nature! Not merely of physics, chemistry, psychology, biology, etc., but of all known fields of inquiry. The law we can all relate to, identify, understand and apply.
Ask yourself. What is the underlying law of nature?
Delight in the question. Have fun in the process of finding the answer firsthand for yourself.

Esentially, It's called social-prejudice. Most people prejudge others and everything; this means they are only reflecting their inside, which means their scope of the world is extremely limited, hence their limited ability to solve obstacles.
Each thinks about others or everything based on what she or he has inside; thus she or he cannot offer more.

People are less likely to provide needed help in large groups.

This provides a good example of how to conduct a naturalistic experiment. The woman varied her appearance to see if it might change the helpfulness of passersby to assist her in picking up items that she dropped. The only issue is that it appeared that she was at the same location on the same day for both parts of the experiment so some people might have picked up on the fact that it wasn't a "real" situation.
