  • Shame your not as good as this on LoL!

  • Awesome drum playing, great hi-hat job! Love your drum set...

  • what grade is best is Grade 8 the best or Grade 1 I'm so confused now, I'm doing a grade 4 piece of guitar that is really hard.

  • good drumming i got a merit a few weeks ago in grade 3 78%

  • omg i'm jealous i want your drumset. looks like those cool ones you find in the basement for jamming yo!

  • this is grade 8!? this is well easy! ha :D

  • @fatmanlushi NO

  • @TheBlackbird012 erm.. yes?? i find it easy, sorry if you have a problem with that aha

  • @fatmanlushi He has that groove that a good drummer needs to have!

  • @TheBlackbird012 yeah i agree, im not saying his a bad drummer dude. I've been playing for almost 11 years and im looking into doing my grades now and i was just surprised at how easy grade 8 was. thats all :)

  • never mind the bitching- anyone notice the freaky ass hand in the background?

  • how the fuck do they class this as grade 8?

my LCM grade 4 book has peices that are harder than this

  • @caldrukit i personally think grades mean hardly anything tbh. im better than some of the grade 8 drummers i play with

  • @DrummerRyG6 oh yes, i do agree, but they help with technique, reading, time keeping. but they're no proof of your ability all together when it comes to playing. that's where improvised solos come in :P

  • @caldrukit how the fuck do they class you as a respectable human being?

yeah, the peice isnt the hardest, but i bet its a damn sight harder than you think it is.

stop hatin on the guy for havin the nuts to upload this, let alone being good enough to pull it of..

  • @tHickman95 Seriously, you slimy piece of shit?!?! where did that come from? i made no nasty comments, just expressed my opinion, then i end up with some fucking twat like you who thinks he knows me asking how i'm a respectable human being, stop for a minute to ask yourself the same thing.

i've been drumming for 7 years, i know how hard this piece is to play, i'm not hating on this guy for uploading it, i'm commenting on the piece itself you retard. now fuck off

  • @caldrukit

    K

  • Heya, I have my grade 8 in two weeks time and I'm kinda nervous, have you got any advice? I need some theory help but not sure where to find it. Thanks, Olly.

  • going on grade 5

  • I could never do grades cos id be to tempted to go for the killer fills!! aha :P showing off is my weakness

  • nice, but start is a little shakey

  • you look a little like mike mangini

  • like ur style, but i think you need to buy more different sounds of troms(sorry i dont know the english word for the pad you drum on :) )

  • thats looks easier than it actually is lol

grade 5 drummer, been playing for about 4 months now :)

  • tehe good job!

imma grade 4 drummer and tried this song, it looks easy when you observe it but it kinda killed me :(

  • If i were you i would do trinity guildhall drum grades, as they are more honoured and harder.

  • HA ! wat kinda opening fill is that ... lool ... but it's alright tho. MAKE IT MORE GROOVY mayn !

  • m8, what are you playing on the intro, it sounds wrong buddy, still it sounds good :)

  • Dude what cymbals are those?

  • Awesome (: I don't do grades... i kinda want to but i'm to nervous to find out how bad i am :)

Any tips on drumming? I have been drumming for about 1 or two years now xx

  • Cool. I have got my Grade 3 exam coming up this summer! Im nervous! :P

  • @DancerDrum123 Good luck mate, just chill and enjoy. I haven't drummed now for about 2 years, due to travelling/work - But looking at purchasing a Roland kit for apartent :)

  • @wilcooper64 Thank You! Oo awesome, hope you find a cool kit :P :)

  • @wilcooper64 thank you:) Yes, I havent played for about a month so this Summer I really want to get back into it!

  • @DancerDrum123 im doing 8. i remember when i did my grade 4 and i shat my pants!!

  • @TheMASDrummer wow, you must be really talented!

  • im a grade 3 :L ave only been playing for 5 months tho.

  • Everytime I practice I play to a live audience, or so I tell myself.

  • dam im only grade 1...

  • @J50N1K i'm doing grade 3...i got 98/100(distinction) on my grade 2 a couple of months ago

  • wow check the date mate....3 years ago.

  • The started failed

  • i like your groove...

  • Is this for college music school is that what they mean by grade 8? Can u help me?

  • in england they have grade system for all instruments, grade 8 is the highest one they do

  • Theres advanced diploma after grade 8 aswell

  • awsome, and awesome kit

  • i am not a newb but i am doing my grade 2 tomos cos this will be my first exam and i don't really wanna jump in when i have never been through one before.

    Anyway looking for distinction!

    Elliot

  • Liste mate, I did most of the early grades

(1-4) really quick. Everyone I got Distinction. And, trust me mate grade 8 is just as easy.

  • Do Trinity Guildhall, much better than Rockschool in my opinion.

  • of course. theyre more challenging. and 4 a dist. in Rocksch, its 85. but in trinity, its 87.

  • Does anyone know where i can get the sheet music for this online? i want to get started now but i'm getting the book for christmas

  • wow.. thts awesome m8!

lol.. im going in to try to pass my grade 4 this mon... im well nervous, im good on the pieces but not tht gr8 on the questions.... do u have any advice?

    thanks

  • work on that first fill of the piece that also comes in later :) nice work though ...

  • problem with reading from the chart is your so focused on that that it isn't grooving much...don't try keep it 100% to the chart except for the main stabs etc. in the exam you get marks for improvisation as long as it fits but you also get marked on your groove, keep it up mate :D

  • Hay Nice Drummung I Was Just Wondering Does Anyone Know How Many Grades you can skip for rockschool

can you go from 1 to 8 or 3 to 7 or not My

Teacher Doesnt know but said i am good enought to go grade 8 ty

  • yea you can skip and do whatever levels you want whenever

  • dont need any grades, jump to 8

  • easy

  • GRADES ARE

  • nice =)

  • i swear u went to my highschool lol?

  • Well, lets be honest, you tits up the start.

  • lolololol

  • @95vaghelaa2 what does that mean

  • you know i wish id chosen somthing easy like rockschool grades . . . i . . . . you try doing the trinity guildhall ones . . . they make me cry . . say take odd one out as a exsample peice . . you can say goodbye to any easy time signatures . . . but good effort none the less

  • Comment removed

  • u luk like ray toro out of mcr.

  • OH MA GAWD ITS DENIZ!!

    Why so Serious Deniz?

  • hahaha at first i was liek WTF! coz u looked like this drummer in my grade - you have his hair hahha

    anyways...

your intro fill is really messy

    otehr than that nice playing

  • thats really good. i have my grade 6 today.

  • There are two things you can do to become a better drummer other than plain ol' practice.

    1. Join a Band

    2. Record Yourself

The latter of the two is probably what helped me the most. Just go nuts in your playing too! Don't be afraid to be creative! Dedicate a bunch of practice time to pure improv/soloing. That will allow you to spread your creative wings; do not be afraid to beat the SHIT outta your drums.

And another thing....NEVER let anyone tell you that you wont be great!

  • @zimmerdrummer Brilliant advice! But, don't forget to make sure you actually practice the not so fun stuff too. It's very important to be creative but it's also very important to have good technique and also have the equipment to be creative with e.g. rudiments etc.

  • The songs that Rockschool come up with for the grades are so crap, good drumming though man, keep it up.

  • grate, you are really cool mate, keep druming

  • supermonkeynuts..(good one)read your comment back.i cant imagine bein a snobish fucktard as you.the guy is jus doin what he likes.you are very shittish,oh'not many people take note of all the dynamics and accents..'.what a dickhead.

  • WTF man that beginning sounds crap and isnt even whats wrote in the music uve skipped like all of it. Your toms are terribly out of tune like do u not realise.

  • makes me puke when i listen to this, sounds so bad haha!! wonder if i've improved after a year of no playing cause of travelling australia ^^

  • i agree with mywadi999 - i haven't looked at this piece yet, but your rolls around the kit were awful and when you hit the toms it sounded like you were hitting a piece of wood - here's a tip: resenant side finger tight and then one quarter turn on each one - then same on batter side but instead of one quarter turn one full turn - should sound ok then hope i helped!

  • Boo you people! Who cares about how bad Wilcooper played!? He is still my greatest boost and influence for me and made me got a distinction in Grade 8.

  • cymbals are fucking well nice!

  • sabian cymbals al the way :P

  • nice dry snare tone an well played but yeah this does seem very... easy, its just an easy groove all the way through but well done still

  • forgive me if im wrong but drums grade 8 doesnt look too complicated. guitar look harder in my opinion but nice beats.

  • Oh it is... There is loads of time signature changes and awkward shit in there.

  • It looks easy cos thats just the basic piece. To really clock up marks, your expected to adapt it; make the piece your own, by making it more complicated as you like, without straying too much from the original music. I notice no-one can do the opening fill! XD

  • Yeah this guy isnt playing it correctly. Theres lots of 32nd hi-hats in there at the end of bars and TONS of accents on the hi-hats. Not many people take note of all the dynamics and accents in this.

The opening fill isnt that hard either. Its piss easy if you can actually read it right XD

I think grade 8 is more about feel and dynamics and all that shizz, its more of how you play it as an instrument instead of just hitting them to make a noise :P

  • BOO!

  • BOO!

  • The guildhall exam is about 5000 times harder than rockschool.

  • Rockschool is under Trinity Guildhall.

  • I noticed that - I did grade 6 and 7 under Trinity, and then during the summer holidays i practiced like hell all the grade 8 trinity guildhall pieces, only to discover that my drum teacher didn't want to use Trinity Guildhall any more :@

  • im 15 ,ive just finished all grades and really.....they dont help you at all with regular playing in my opinion...theres bits and pieces that are good but overall there a waste of time

  • oh crud sorry for posting that, i put it in the wrong place.

  • grade 3 drums

  • it seems like there is a manniquin by ur 2 cymbals

  • I think your brilliant! I'm only on grade 1

  • this guy isnt playing as writen its a hard track he is improvising

  • the rockschool grades offer the best variation in different styles of music, and its the most challenging exam to sit i did trinity guildhall exams and found rockschool much harder and better. So... fuck you rockschool has alot more to offer than any other examboard.

  • You played it very well, but it seemed very......easy.

  • hahaha i agree with post below this is grade 4 sorry man. Just straight 16 groove.

  • Grade 8?! You're fucking jacking me, this is piss.

  • Good job.

But I think I prefer the trinity guildhall exams, because there is more variation and challenging.

  • rockschool is part of trinity guidhall

  • Yeah I know but I meant the other syllabus

  • nice is this rock school? I'm playing my grade 4 exam :)

  • sounds good man!

  • I use the same cymbals as u, How do u find them?

  • highhat work is a bit messy

do them good cymbals justice by playing them well or give them to me :)

  • Seriously?! Grade 8? boy it's gotten easy.

  • i know ive never done grades but this lookes easy as..............well pie, to blatenly honnest

  • them hats sound looooovely

  • im like grade 4/5 but i reckon i could nail this pretty quik good work =]

  • toms sound out of tune

  • nice!

  • the begining is a tad dodgy buyt good work apart from that.

    x

  • Thank you, Wil (If that's your name.).

    Thanks for posting this video.

It is because of this video that made me be taking Grade 8 drums examination in two and a half years of drumming. This is a very big encouragement.

    Thanks. God bless. =)

  • Isn't good music just trying to cheer people up and stuff like that? Why are you people looking at people abd listening to the music with such thoughts?

If you say that this guy's lousy, I guarantee you J.S. Bach was once a piece of shit!

  • You people stop commenting about how easy is the piece!

It is not about how easy it is, it is about how you can get into the playing, express your feelings through the play, how can you make such "easy" song sounds good!

Isn't this is what music's about?

Is playing music about how fast, how hard it looks like to you? Or am I just so outdated that I didn't even realized music is for competing?

    ......

  • :O

man grade 8 is piss easy

  • im going to buy the book and take this anyway just so i can say iv done my grade 8 twice

  • trinity guildhall is about 10 times harder.

  • i agree , this looks really easy

  • duh rockschool is part of trinity guildhall

  • wow i think i could do this since i skipped to grade 6 when i was like 12 hmm is this new course?

  • them using brushes and I was bouncing/flicking (RRL)

Nevertheless I managed to get a distinction by a couple of marks :)

Anyway, are you doing the rudiments or performance? the rudiments are quite difficult - I don't know how count 7's and 9's properly and i can just about count 10's (double 5's)

  • (cont) and there were no demi semi's in fills or 9's etc. which is what makes it alot harder. and majority of pieces have changing beats all the time (less so on bonzo/667) which makes it longer/harder to learn.

On my brush rush in the exam I was like 6 bpm slower (I knew this beforehand because I couldn't play it at tempo aswell and this was like the optimum time) and the examiner worked out all my bpm's in his head and they were all right! my triplets were good but it's hard to pronounce

  • oh and what mark did you get for this?

  • lol good point about the guy playing them wrong on the cd, when i said this is easier, i was just going off watching the videos of people but i have now bought the book and they harder, some off them are about the same level and some more difficult,

ma grade was abit random coz on brush rush i stopped half way through the peice and then did it again but just made all the fills up randomly and i only lost one mark in that peice for stopping. i got 83/100, 4 marks off a distinction.

  • i am skipping to grade 8 rockschool now, then doing grade 8 guildhall and proberly ABRSM as well.

  • Yeah same :) although i don't think i'll do the same grade with another board but I will look at some of the songs. I've got Groove Challenge so i've got one of the guildhall songs anyway.

I also got the book (on monday) it's strange because you can site read it/bluff it to an ok standard but I couldn't do that with trinity g5. I'd say all the songs are harder, I too did brush rush in the exam and i think that was the only piece that switched between triplet and compound.

  • piece of cake i managed to sight read this piece when i played it!!! IM SO AWSOME!!! lol stil though gd work, sounds pretty solid dude xxx

  • ye - im 13 and can barely play any grade 8 trinity guildhall but can sight read rockschool grade 8

  • stop demeaning everyone, child

  • rockschool is lame compared to guildhall.

sorry mate, has to be said.

  • yea, i'm doin ma grade 5 guild hall nd its harder than this grade 8 by far

  • i passed my grade 8 on monday...TRINITY :)

  • sweeeeet, i av ma grade 5 trinity exam next wednesday, the 16th of july.

  • i did that at christmas and now i'm working on rockschool and it isn't easier. Rudimental study number 2 (the jazzy one is alot easier then this) and so is easy for izzy and other pieces. Rudimental study number ones drags are difficult but they're leanient about that because even the guy on the record didn't play them properly =\

  • I am in a suckish situation coz I can comfortably learn a grade 8 piece by ear and play it easily but I can only read up to grade 4/5 standard. I find it very difficult. Any tips perhaps?

  • read the tabs...

  • Are they any easier then? I have never really tried them.

  • Jimbomiles, sorry I realise this is a way late reponse but for the actual grade sight reading is a very small part of the marks and won't stop you getting a distinction if you're playing well at grade 8 standard. Your reading will improve, but for the purpose of taking the grade, don't worry too much

  • No worries, thanks for the info, makes me feel a lot better!

  • Try adding some little diddles on the hi hat in there. Add some flavor to it : )

    Good attempt though.

  • I'm doing this song for my grade 8 drums too :)

  • 1HOLYDIVER1 and fcmra - don't make this video comment page into a bitch fest. "i teach from a jazz point of view" why don't you both teach yourselves to shut up. "never gone out of time" what bull-shit everyone goes out of time, doesn't make you a bad player - just gotta practice.

anyways - wilcooper64, good effort! keep it up.

  • i have natural timing i've never gone out of time even when i first picked up the sticks and DON'T YOU DARE INSULT DAVE GROHL!!! his drumming legacy revolves on his awesome power and solid drumming and if you think all powerhouse drummers are twats then you deserve to be locked up. the first thing i was taught was blues and i cannot be more grateful about it because i loooove playing the blues but i also love beating the shit out of the kit every now and again so i dig everything in that respect

  • not a natural drummer, are you?

    looks very forced and over-taught.

  • not natural but he can play. very funky and awesome. i just learned how to read music andhave taken the grade 6 exam 3 times and i can't pass because i always end up adding stuff because im too independent and change the sheet music too much but what do grades get you anyway. as long as you can play thats all that matters

  • no, that's not all that matters! by passing the exam it shows you have good technique and can follow the music. sometimes, especially if you want to become a session drummer, you HAVE to read and FOLLOW the music. besides, if you do the guildhall exams, there is a piece in every exam that you HAVE to improvise.

so to say you can't pass because you keep adding stuff is a very very very lame excuse!

  • well then my examiner is a gay bastad then. i just think that you look at dave grohl or mitch mitchell some of the most awesome and famous drummers in the world it makes you think do you really need to go around with a medal on your chest sayng mhahaha yes i am grade 8 hahahaha

  • but ask dave grohl to play a piece from a grade 8 book and he'll blast it out in a few hours.

it's not just about being able to play beats in a band. drumming is so much more than that. you need to have control, natural timing; the works. drummers who think "the louder i play, the better i am" are all twats and don't deserve to sit behind a drum kit. these drummers are mainly those who are selftaught and only play in rock bands. i teach from a jazz point of view which teach control and dynamics

  • fcmra i totally agree...1HOLYDIVER! everyone goes off beat once in awhile no matte how good you are..we're simply human after all remember??

  • awesome

  • Amy Winehouse, you play drums?

  • haha youre right amy winehouse... i knew he looked familiar. good drumming :P

  • Your good continue but the music sucks and keep practicing

  • I would say maybe a merit.

  • Amy Winehouse?.......Just putting that one out there.

  • You dont seem to be feelin it dude, hands lack dynamics and they're not locking in with your feet properly, sounds lazy, u need to play it like you're in control, not the backing track. But, full on respect for learning and applying yourself at this level, keep it up.

  • nice playing maan...

about the click cop out comment by drummerspirit7, its better to play to a click live, just have a little in an ear, stops the groove from pushing or pulling too much!

  • ugh... NEVER play to a click during a live show unless samples are involved! if you can't keep time naturally, you shouldn't the time keeper of the band!

  • You really need to play with more conviction. Add your own style to the song. What your playing is correct but your slipping in and out of the pocket. Proper go for it :)

    Good luck,

  • You missed your hi hat at the end completly and playing with the click is kinda a copout

  • Playing with click a cop out? I don't agree. If you're playing live with other musicians, of course, playing with a click is a cop out. If you're playing along to a pre-recorded track, it's the sensible things to do.

  • Yeah, Totally agree with maxtroy.. when i play this, I play with the click and I dont see how it's a cop out.. you have to keep yourself in time with the CD. If it were a live band they would keep in time with you.. but a CD isn't gonna :)

and btw.. at the end.. during the final fill.. there is supposed to be quavers on the hi-hat with your foot :)

  • That was....ok, it was good, but not that great, you really need to get the fill at the beginning sorted to start with and you can't hear bass drum nearly enough

  • The start sucked man.. You rnever gonna pass grade 8 at that

  • fuck off dude - thats what practicing is for.

  • yeah, practise to a click... but ur telling me u have played shows spot on. I've just watched one of your videos..... its not really the best of timing is it????

  • i have never even posted a video so i have no idea what yur chatting about mate. and i've never played to a click track either it puts me off
