Notice how McSorley wanted none of Brown until the referees got involved. After this incident several of my friends dubbed him "Marty McTurtle." He was the dirtiest player in the NHL in the early 90s, but nobody would say it back then.

Never had any respect for McSorley and players like him. Good fighter, enforcer, whatever. Going out there and acting like a nut half the time. Everyone saw once he hit Brashear in the head with his stick, then Marty threatens to beat up a cameraman? Real tough man there. Hockey players who can't leave their psychotic behaviour on the ice need psychiatric help.

Totally agree! McSorley was a nut job who went beyond the line way too many times. In addition to the axe to Brashear's head (and all because Brashear worked him in a fight), McSorley also cross-checked Darin Banks in the face, speared Mike Bullard in the stomach (Bullard had a ruptured spleen) and always went after smaller players. McSorely was just nuts like his brother, who bit the tip of the nose off a player in the minors.

This sequence was just like his entire career, helped by his friends in high places, i.e. Wayne Gretzky. Without Gretz, he'd be coaching some beer league team today and probably would have lost it more often. Wayne was his friend so he knew how to curtail the famed McSorley temper.

He nearly pulled a Sean Penn on the cameraman for whatever reason. Hockey guys rarely do assault people off the ice though, so he at least had enough restraint just to yell at the little dude. McSorley would've cross-checked his mother if it got his team to a Stanley cup.
