These days there are nuclear weapons. If there was another world war & countries used nuclear weapons on each other scientists estimate over 98% of the worlds population could be wiped out and the remainder would be forced to live in mountains & deep forests away from once populated areas to avoid radiation.

If scenarios like that arise it is feasible people would return to using old tools like horses, spears etc
