Someone who is so handsome should not be playing a disfigured character. Red Dragon is a great movie to me. Sure I don't exactly agree with how the plot and characters are changed, but I have no problems with Ralph Fiennes in this film. I know they changed his character around, but to me, Ralph Fiennes IS Francis Dolarhyde. He IS the Dragon. Tom Noonan did great as well, but in my opinion, Ralph Fiennes has a kind of power, a "sexual evil" as Steven Spielberg put it, that sets him apart from other actors. Ralph Fiennes is the reason Red Dragon is one of my favorites.

They realy messed up the plot: Hannibal has too much screentime, in the book he is a background character who forces the events of the film through maniupilation - the film ruins that subtlety by dedication so much of the plot to him. Furthermore, Graham is, in the book, as much a monster as Dolarhyde or Lecter and both he and Dolarhyde are destroyed by Lecter's maniupilation - the film has no such subtleties: Graham is a boy scout and we get a "happily ever after" ending.

Tom Noonan in 'Manhunter' was much scarier. If you haven't seen it, I would advise you to watch ot. Brian Cox does a much better Hannibal aswell. He comes across as so normal- much more like a serial killer

I agree that Tom Noonan did a better job in 'Manhunter', but labeling Hannibal as a serial killer is oversimplifying his dynamic character in Thomas Harris' novels. The Hannibal as portrayed by Anthony Hopkins is a much more intelligent character, with a more refined demeanor; staying true to the history of his origins. As for the normality of serial killers, guys like Manson, Gacey, Dahmer, were overtly insane, and had terrible social skills; unlike the character of Hannibal.

He was described as having a wierd face that resembled a "bat boy" when he was a boy. When he went in the military, he was given a bunch of surgery to fix his face and his soft pallet. He was supposed to have short yellow-blonde hair weighing 225+ lbs[the size of a linebacker]. His body type was supposed to be that of a body builder. The movie didn't make him how the novel did. The movie, however made the tattoo really well[I'm obviously a fan of it].
