That's not a cold air intake.. god ppl are stupid.. also I have a 4cyl car with a cai right under my bumber, and it is way bigger than that filter cone!!
Cause the intake is aluminum or how ever you spell it and I will cool it down it wont be ice cold it just wont be as hot as it was going through the plastic intake
Cool stuff. I'm thinking about doing this with mine as well. The only thing I'd be worried about is getting the filter wet when I go off roading because it's sitting in the stock airbox like that. Have you taken it off road in soggy mud very much?
Filter is way to small for a 5.2. You need a larger filter dude. Your choking off the engine with it. I wouldnt put a filter that small on my wifes 1.6 honda.
I saw below that you said you used the universal kit from Advance auto. I've seen the kit before (I have a friend that works at one so I'm there all the time). What did you have to do to make it fit?
on ym 4.0 jeep cherokee, i used a progresso soup can as the filter to intake pipe coupler, and a filter from autozone that was 27 bucks (cone style, but bigger then the one this has) and some zip ties....its not a pretty as this, but for only 30 bucks, you cant complain hahah
overall cost was $50 and it could be a lot less if you look around a bit more, and no, Jeeps take kindly to cold air intakes... no check engine light... Mopar even offers a cold air intake for jeeps from this model all the way to the current models.
its pretty much, pulling out the stock piping/filter, and putting a new one in, simple and quick little mod, I noticed better launches from zero and better throttle response.
What did you use for the pipe? I am looking into doing this with my 96 5.2 but do not want to go the pvc route! I also don't want to spend to $200+ on a KN or other similar brands.
Its a universal kit for like honda civics and whatnot that you can get at your local Advanced Auto. Since then i have added a 12" K&N filter along with DIY ram air piping from the bumper up to the filter.(probably taking that off pretty soon before it gets too cold.
Well, I took off the first little piece that connects to the grill... I'm up in the air about taking the bottom off do to the GIANT open space it leaves for water to come and choke my engine dead. do u think that's much of an issue? It sure looks like it, because the tire is right there along with various undercarriage guts that should send water everywhere... that piece of plastic from the stock air box as mud and grime over it all the time, and i don't even go off road...
ive had my bottom piece off for about a year now and i havent had any problems. i think you have to almost submerge the thing under water in order to f up your engine

Nice job on your CAI. I built my own for my Dodge as well. K&N is overpriced crap now adays.
But for real, get a bigger filter. My Craftsman riding mower has a bigger filter than that !!
papabugs71 2 years ago
yeah man you need a bigger fliter on that. K&N would be the way to go

I'd love to know why they call em cold air intakes haha... yup sucking in 210f heat from the oven we call the engine bay is cold..
1ownjoo2 8 months ago
how much in the way of mods and install time did this take?
tediumblithly 3 years ago
Maybe 15mins tops? but if you take the bottom of the air box out that's another 10-15mins.

what is ur exhaus setup?
i want a vid of that

you should take off the bottom part of the stock air box. there are holes underneath that will open the filter up to more air
