Pima Air and Space museum for the win!.. It looks a lot different today as they have gotten some pretty massive donations and have done an excellent job of cleaning up and restoring a good number of these aircraft.
in order for them to give any plane away it must first be flight worthy by faa standards second compensation must be given for the money they would have got for the scrap metal and 3 you gotta know a guy

i was just recently at the Pima air and space museum, it was awesome most people would never get the chance to see many of these planes, so id say they are far from "Wasted", they could be scrap metal being melted down to make soda cans, or rotting away in the desert where no one could enjoy them.
I see they have got a Fairey Gannet- I can remember one flying over my house- about 1964. They had a contra-rotating prop- on a Double Mamba engine- a very odd looking plane. They were all scrapped when the aircraft carriers were retired- and very sorely missed during the Falklands War when there was no airborne early warning for the fleet. Some helicopters were converted- prior to that ships were stationed out as "pickets" and some were sunk. Politicians make such stupid decisions.
there is an operational military jet for sale. It will cost about five hundred thousand dollars and that is really cheap. The engine alone cost the gov. almost a mil. It takes about a thousand gallons of Jet-A fuel to take off, circle a few times and land. Jet-A is about seven dollars a gallon right now. Hey, look at the bright side. You could back your toyota up to one of these babies and sit on your tailgate with a bag of chips and a sprite and just admire it for free.
For any one going to check out the Pima Air Museum, you should also look into doing the Titan Missile Museum about 30 minutes south of Tucson on I 19. I think that at both locations you can buy tickets for the other.
srt4crazy289, I believe they have saved one of each of those planes and have them on display at the Pima Air and Space Museum that's located about 1 1/2 miles from the boneyard. I think they are both visible from Valencia Road that goes by the museum. In fact, you can probably spot them on Google Earth. They also have the Connie that was Eisenhower's Airforce 1.
They actually give several tours of AMARC a day...by bus which boards at the Pima Museum. You cannot leave the bus while within AMARC; guards check the boarding list! Did the tour a few weeks ago....it still fascinates.
@deezynar I may have mentioned elsewhere that the Pima Museum now has bus tours of AMARC that leave several times each day. You cannot debark the busses, but they do drive around part of the AMARC facility, and the old ex-mil guides are pretty good..
I saw an email where somebody made their home out of a retired 727. They mounted it, overhanging a cliff. They had a jacuzzi inside it, and a big deck/ patio built right outside the fuselage. It was in Colombia. If you look hard enough, you can probably find it.
By the way, only about half the shots are from the museum. The rest are from AMARG (the boneyard) and the flying scenes are from an airshow at Davis-Monthan AFB.
Beautiful Photos of some unique Aircraft. How recent are your photos? Do the Connies, stratocruisers and C124's stillinhabit Tucson or have they met a totally inglorious end?
Thanks again, As someone who's heard the squeals of the C124,s brakes, and stood fire duty over them, Connies and StratoCruisers. Not to mention been close to an F104 doing full thrust take-offs I,m misty eyed.
Let me have one PLEASE!!! just ONE!!!

I think i would be saddened if i ever went to an aircraft boneyard. Planes belong in the air, not rotting on the ground as a static display.

Thanks azpilot!
Let me give a bit of info, the video was shot at 3 different places.
The well cared for planes, the flight suit, etc. are at Pima Air & Space Museum, which has a good collection.
The mothballed planes are in the Aerospace Maintenance And Regeneration Group facility at Davis-Monthan AFB.
The flying planes are from an airshow at the base.
The museum is just south of the AFB. I hear they give a tour of AMARG once a week but the museum is civilian and AMARG is military.
