I cant understand the appeal of "DAWES." Good lord this music has been done soooo many times before. And as far as the Zevon parallel... where the hell is the satire and humor. These guys are too smug and conceited to even be compared to Zevon. Man they look good though, it is clear that all their time and effort spent to appear "authentically vintage" has worked.
@alexkane1 Okay who really cares about the comparisons to Zevon? What? Warren Zevon didn't channel anybody? Please. The real question is, if this has been done soo many times before, which of those times do you approve of? Who did it first? Oh really? Are you sure? Weren't they channeling someone themselves? So you see, you're simply jealous cuz these guys can write and sing and perform and have gotten recognition cuz they have taken something many people love and spun it their way.
@alexkane1 Actually it sounds like you are the smug one. Saw these guys last week. They are the real deal. I guess sincerity and well sritten lyrics are in such small supply these days it's hard to recognize.
Jackson Browne with soul, Simon and Garfunkel with balls, The Eagles without being pretentious, Neil Young with great vocals… or just Dawes cause one day that is all you will have to say.
Saw them over a year ago opening for Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros in Tempe, AZ. One of the most beautiful performances I have ever seen. They're very involved and really cared about the crowd who fed from their energy.
Saw these guys open up for Alison Krauss & Union Station last week at the Beacon Theater in NYC. What a pleasant surprise! Great singing, playing and songwriting. It's refreshing to hear a contemporary band with some maturity and substance - and vocal harmonies. This song in particular definitely sounds very influenced by The Band (a good thing in my opinion) with a little something extra all their own. I will definitely go and see these guys again.
Saw these guys last night in a little club in London. Knew nothing about them but was well impressed. They deserve to make it, but I fear they may be too intelligent for the mainstream. Funnily enough Jackson Browne turned up too! Great Night!!!
@jaydilts - Truer words have never been written. Dawes is indeed the spirit of many different folks like Jackson Browne, Gram Parsons, JD Souther, and a whole bunch more folks who helped create country-rock, alt-rock., whatever tag, it's just flat out great music,we can help by spreading the word, I'm buying MP3 gifts for a few friends of Dawes June 6, 2011 release "Nothing is Wrong" I'm really liking these guys....
Music is reverting back to its roots. The Avett brothers, Mumford and sons, Dawes, I love this and All I want is more. I hope to see these guys live very soon. where can I find tour dates?!
@lngskater4life check out worlds tallest man, horse feather, great lake swimmers, band of horses, and if you havent yet ray lamontagnes "trouble" album
@mrbill224 absolutely!!! and they flippin played letterman last nite with Robbie Robertson!! and although the BAND is one of my all time favs, i wish dave woulda let dawes play one song. they are phenominal and they bring back that sound that hasnt been around since the days of the BAND and ccr and bread and csn and on and on...... I am soo inlove with DAWES!!!! R.I.P. RICHARD MANUEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saw them in LA in February; simply amazing. Every song seemed better than the last. Then they played 'A Little Bit of Everything' and I gave up listening to other music altogether.
@nerdmaster128 The second Dawes tune I heard was "A Little Bit..." As soon he hit the word 'rail' in the first verse I was sold...and then the rest of the amazing song happened.
Folk rock... I'm a huge folk music fan... but its rare to actually find a true folk rock band that is actually folk... cuz they're usually countrylike..
Very underrated lyrics. I got this album since the lead singer from my favorite band, Deer Tick, says this is his favorite band. Thank God. I bought extra copies for everyone I know with good taste, and they love it too now. I caught them live at Lollapalooza. I haven't seen anyone so into a performance since Ben Harper live years ago. Great talent. This band is going to be huge. Get the album, you'll love them.
Tele love. Great tune.

I can't listen to the studio version after the live one. Wish this would get more airtime then time spent in LA too. Great dynamics with these guys.

These guys made a guest appearance on the NBC TV show, "Parenthood." I had never heard of them until then. Nice song.

@mrbill224 Yeah I think the comparisons these guys get to Bruce Springsteen are rediculous. They're much more like The Band!
