since her death in 1965 it has always been open to the fact did she take a overdose of seconol with alocohol or was she done away with because of some information she had about Jack Rudy and Lee Harvey Oswald. Very talented writer and no she did have her run in with the other two Reg on What's my line
dorothy's a doll. i dunno what your issue is with her. she's so sweet. with regard to bennett cerf's comment, he said dorothy was the only person who prioritized guessing the subject's identity. the others prioritized humor and looking good in front of the camera. however, he did say the dorothy asked questions the answers of which she knew so she could be on TV longer.
Orson Welles' introduction of Arlene Francis lasts only a few seconds, yet in those few seconds, in two sentences, he speaks with both brilliance and affection.
You know with the comments that I always read first I expected Arlene's dress to be absolutely hideous, it's not that bad. Sure it's not the prettiest thing she has ever worn but certainly not completely ugly. I think it's kind of pretty. :)
@mrdibblezibble Thanks. How do you know that? Also, do you know where someone would get such a videotape/kineascope? Did they tape it off the game show channel? etc; Thanks
RE: Daly's announcement that Clifton Fadiman would guest moderate the next two broadcasts while he was on assignment:
YouTube features both mystery guest spot clips of those two episodes hosted by Fadiman. Refer to Clifton Fadiman Bob Hope and Clifton Fadiman Jane Powell.
The Host mentions The Brussels World's Fair. I believe Touch of Evil subsequently won the prize for best film at the Fair. Panelist in America, but only a great director in Europe. Funny place the United States.
Kellogg's had just begun their eight-year alternate sponsorship of the program: 3:09 {"...after this word from Kellogg's"- fade to one minute Kellogg's commercial [Special K or Variety Pak, no doubt]}.
WHAT is Arlene wearing? Was I the only one rolling on the floor with laughter when she appeared adorned with the giant ribbons? An extravagant dress even for her era, wasn't it? Quite funny.
May have been bland on WML, but he was once a big time mobster. He opened his El Morocco nightclub as a gangster speakeasy during prohibition and eventually went 'legit.'
Welles certainly did many things brilliantly, but he seems hard pressed to string one question after another. The perils of living television and without rehearsals.
His brilliance can be seen here in the line of questioning he pursues--he seems more interested in finding out what kind of person the guy is and if he enjoys what he does than in what the title of his profession is.

I thought Orson Wells was acting like a buffoon. He was asking irrelevant questions, and seemed to be just wanting to speak.

It was used from 1958-62, and animated by Terrytoons, which CBS owned.

Why does Dorothy always asks questions she knows she will get a yes for?
Kate8790 1 year ago 2
@Kate8790 I read somewhere that Benet Cerf said that she had a tendency to stall so that she would be on longer.

@Kate8790 isn't that the general idea?

I love how the modern commercials in between serve as a sad reminder of how far television has fallen.
