  • His collection should be put into a library. As musical reference and what he don't have people should contribute. Have it as an on going record collection. It would be the only collection of it kind.

  • This guy should try to sold his collection on eBay and get a fortune! These are rare albums and World market have a plenty vinyl collectors.

  • Wish I could somehow help him. That's collection of art of it's finest form and nobody gives a damn. Makes me sad too.

  • Who else wants to be the joint owner of the worlds largest record collection?

'nmycon' - are you saying that you know Mr Mawhinney would go in for a sale if 600 of us went in at $5000 each to make the $3m? If so then I guess its worth contacting him and we can start looking for partners - and yes I'm serious. I'm not sure how things work legally in the US with multiple owners of something like this but we could get something drafted up to say it can never be split or sold on etc?

  • @ThinLippedDwarf Nah, I just visited his website.

He takes collectors on a tour of the archives but they must guarantee they will buy at least $5000 worth of stuff, plus there's a breakdown of how many sealed or used LPs or singles you can buy...

  • It would be a damn shame to lose such a musical treasure. The Smithsonian Institute, Library of Congress, or someone needs to preserve such an archive.

  • man if i was broke dead poor i would buy this in a heart beat

  • If someone doesnt buy this collection soon this man will surely eat it.

  • Vinyl will always surpass downloads.

  • man if i had 3 million dollars i would buy that collection in a second. Its like he owns a peace of history and it makes me sad to see it go like that its awful. This guy knows where its at

  • this man is truly sent from god, to preserve music that can not be lost, to lose any of those records is like loosing a part of time, and to lose that part of time will be just to hard to bare

  • everyone in the world is dumb except for this guy.

  • I care:)

  • As far as hip hop dj's are concerned, DJ Screw RIP, had the largest vinyl collection that I had known of, but this guy is beating even him, MAN!!!

  • I wish I had $3 Million. I'd buy this collection in a heartbeat. The fact about %83 of this music is NOT on compact disc...is thought provoking to say the least. Cheers to Sean Dunne!

  • A MUST SEE FOR MUSIC LOVERS!

  • i want to help this man.

  • Greed is what killed the music business. The record stores and the CD manufacturers alike looked to duplicate their early success by selling the same people the same music albums on a new digital format . .They didn't envisage how the technology of computers would come to haunt them in the end. Its sad yes but its progress and the music industry is still making a fortune in other areas these days, video sales to MTV / VH1 / 4Music etc . . Don't feel sorry for an industry which fleeced us all!!

  • @lloyddjdannyboy That and the fact that the general public never really cares to look for any other music than what's thrown in their face every day. It's not just greed that is the problem with music these days, it's people who just don't care about music other than what the current most trendy thing is. Today it's Lady Gaga tomorrow it'll be something else. Well at least there will be some people like us that actually care about music, that will never stop collecting and preserving real music.

  • Really good video, I Agree with this guy, I can never understand why people play lower crushed down vinyl rips, theres no memory there, just a peace of Data

  • @shaun187lockdown Fully agree with u there Shaun. The mp3 takeover is the main reason i don't play clubs anymore. U'd be hard pressed to find a club with a fully functioning 1210 setup these days. I used to love filling my bag up with the selection of 12's for the night and keeping the best bits back til it was kicking. Flicking through a wallet of burns just doesn't come close. They were happy days, and sadly now will never be recreated......

  • dude does he still sell them individually?

i mean, man, i don't have 3 million but i can def. buy 20-25 albums

  • @nelmsters he requires a minimum purchase of $5000

  • So how much does he actually want for it ?

No sane person would want to split it up so rather than talk about how valuable it is we just need an answer to a very basic question. How much do you want for it?

Then we can start to look at buying it between us? Or has anyone actaully got a few million spare? (of course not - right?)

  • if i was rich i would buy his collection in a flash

  • This guys should live forever.

  • what song is that starting on 3:14 ?? anyone know?

  • i wish i had 3mio. dollars... would buy this collection right away

  • @Killerschwan I was going though my Vinyl collection last month and I have 150 or so from 60s & 70s 90% rock and roll all the classics that have been in plastic sleeves since day one and most have been in individual plastic sleeves since the day they were purchased Also some stuff from the 20s 30s and 40s but this archive fellow is very cool.

    ```
    Pioneer frontloading turntable –PL-88-F in mint condition
    ```

I wish I knew what to do with the stuff? Any 1 have Any ideas?

  • vinyl was the first the original and the best. cds as far as i can see have killed temselves off vinyl ftw!!!!

  • for everyone who's wondering what's the name of the last song!

it's John Miles - Music (was my first love)

greetings for every music and vinyl lover out there!

  • Crimen Sollicitationis

  • DON'T GIVE IT UP MAN! VINYL IS ON A BIG BIG BIG COMEBACK!!!! THERE ARE MUSIC LOVERS JUST LIKE YOU AND LIKE MYSELF WHO COLLECT. I JUST STARTED COLLECTION VINYL WHICH IS HARD WITHOUT LOTS OF MONEY. I HAVE LOTS OF MUSIC BUT NOT ON VINYL.....YET.

Love the video. I hope you find a buyer! Try Bill Gates or someone with tons of money to preserve your collection. There are albums like days of future past, moody blues who's mater tapes are destroy but recaptured from vinyl! WE NEED YOUR COLLECTION

  • After seeing this video, now I`m really pissed off that I`m not a millionaire, not for buying stupid mansions or luxury cars, now I`m pissed of that I can`t afford to offer those 3 stupid millions =( There is a lot of musicians, rich people in USA, really there is no ONE of them to save this treasure for the future ?

  • I believe what he said about the world being asleep right now. As he said, it's going to take a long time for the world to wake up. When Winston Churchill was asked to cut arts funding in favor of the war effort, he simply replied, "Then what are we fighting for?"

  • What happened to this guy ?

  • Dj Premier, Dj Shadow, Rob Swift, Pete Rock and Others . . . !

This is an APPEAL from us, the underground activists who buy your work on vinyl - learn to grow up, with each WORD, and inspire, learn music from each sample of a single BEAT. !

Take care with this collection, and sharing it with us, with the unique number of samples on Your next project's.

    Polish Underground & Others !

  • Elton John - Rock of the Westies in 6:45 :)

  • That, is simply incredible. George Soros or Bill Gates should give this man 5 million US, its incredible, a monument to music and to man. I can't believe no one would want to look after this.

Was this not the store used by DJ Shadow when he was compiling sounds for Endtroducing? James Lavelle must have loads of cash, can he not help?

  • amazing and so true about kids these days enjoying mp3s haha. they sound awful. The sound of vinyl is so rich and is godly to listen to. True music appreciators still have vinyl. I work in a music store, and all new albums that are good these days have a vinyl equivilant that we can order. Everybody where I work still buy vinyl. My personal collection at 21 is about 500 LP's so far. Its a start! I'd love his collection, but put it where. That's the biggest problem :-(

  • @mikemacjunkie1 im a kid and im not enjoying MP3 lol. i might listen to an mp3 if i cant find somthing on record but vinyl sounds amazing to me. i plan to upload some videos of my collection someday too.

  • if i ever win the lottery, it's all going to this man right here. props to him for being so dedicated in saving music.

  • @PNI2 haha i thought the same thing. This guy is one of my new heroes.

  • as i dj i truly feel touched by this documention!

    he is so f****in right!

  • I GIVE A DAMN!!!

  • i may not personally enjoy the types of music he plays, as i prefer anywhere from papa roach to slipknot, qotsa to nin, mudvayne to MM. but the legacy that this man holds is unfathomable. Coming from a person who's first love was music, i still can't comprehend how i could have such a passion. you are the living embodiment of that which is vinyl. I would be so depressed if i had to give my 2.5 million vinyls away... everyone, praise this man, as he deserves a standing ovation. Die4Music...

  • Only vinyls and cds are true ! fuck downloads !

    Respect to this man

  • Uspudo je t'ai grillé

  • that brought a tear to my eye!!!!!!

  • lol the most valuable record seen at 1:39 doesn't seem to be in a safe or anything, strange. Probably because anyone out to steel that one record would have to go through 2 million others to find it :)

  • This is really, really sad. Unfortunately, most people who would love to own this archive and take good care of it just don't have enough money to buy it and enough space to maintain it. All my respect to Paul Mawhinney and his wife.

  • I've just met God...

  • @capitantottle ....THATS MY WORD......RESPECT THE GOD,PEOPLE LIKE THIS SHOULD BE PRAISED OR AWARDED WITH HIS OWN MUSEUM...WHAT A PIECE OF SHIT AMERICA WE LIVE IN,EVERYONE CAN RELATE TO MUSIC..."THE WORLD IS DEAD OUT THERE,THEY DONT UNDERSTAND"......CANT SAY ENOUGH....PEACE TO THE VINYL GOD KING PAUL

  • Im sure someone will see this, and give him 100 million dollars.. I wish thee luck, friend.

  • why doesn't the library of congress take him up on the offer?

  • Hire like 500 people to rip these albums in 96/24-FLAC.

  • @beaverteeth92 You missed the point of the documentary.

  • @Rochardzorz I didn't see it. But digital music is just as good as long as there's no compression. There's a massive difference between FLAC and the crap you get from the iTunes store.

  • @beaverteeth92 Digital music is never as good as analog. That's what he's trying to tell you.

  • @Rochardzorz I think the point of the documentary was that nobody cares enough about vinyl to buy his records, which is agreeably sad. It's a common myth that vinyl is superior to digital music. I believe it has been repeatedly disproven, too. The only way I find vinyl superior is in a tactile/nostalgic sense, or if you're into turntablism. Transparent vinyl and great artwork were a lot of fun. I could fit his whole collection in my hard drive array in some nice FLACs :)

  • @1afrowolf well im no expert but when i listen to something on vinyl i hear things i never heard on digital. if i could afford a turntable i would definately listen to my music on that instead of the computer.

  • one thing should be clarified, the compression and clipping of digital music is the result of the labels wanting to have the loudest album on the block, not a side affect of CDs or digital. the reason vinyls aren't like this is because they're actually deficient at storing data.

another thing, 16bit/44.1KHz of the CD is transparent to the human ear. 24/96 is far beyond what anybody can distinguish.

  • So much music history will be lost and no one seems to care. I wish I had the money buy it for the boyfriend who is a vinyl collector.

  • I'M NOT SLEEPING, I UNDERSTAND! I'm twenty years old and studying music at university in Liverpool and every Friday I go to my local record store and buy a new record! I can't think of anything worse than downloading compressed, low quality music that doesn't have the artistry or 'soul' if you like, of what is considered 'music' these days. It's depressing to see (and hear) what music has become.

  • This is such a valuable collection of musical history.

This just goes to show how stupid our governments are to ignore this archive.

Please somebody in America, wake up and assist this man.

  • I find it sad and hilarious that the man with the most records is destroying them with a crappola Stanton turntable!

  • @VinylLad Its the needle and cart that counts :)

  • @miniroll32 You could be right. I bet he uses a conical though, gah!

  • @VinylLad Haha, and a horn for a speaker! Poor fella

  • @miniroll32 dude is old school. Recognize!

  • @VinylLad No one is perfect. He's doing the best he can. Give the brother some credit. Why don't you contact and enlighten him?

  • Don't give up man !

  • amazing...

  • sell them to kanye

  • If I had 3 milions $ I would boy it right away because it's worth any money. People in usa are stupid, records are better than cd in quality by far.

  • Great short!!!!!!!

  • PEACE TO THE GOD,DAMN YOU THE MAN,I SEEN THIS AWHILE AGO,NEVER FORGOT IT...I GIVE A DAMN,NOW REALLY THANKS TO SERATO,FUCK SERATO,WAX IS THE TIME,EVERYONE IS SLEEPING....STUPID SAD,I SHED MANY TEARS,MUSIC ON WAX MEANS EVERYTHING....

  • If he can't sell it, then maybe he should donate his collection to the Library of Congress.

  • i LLLLLLLLLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUVVVVVVVVVVVV RECORDS

GIMME LOTS AND LOTS OF RECORDS

  • The state should do something about that, this is a cultural treasure.

  • Put them all into digital and sell it?

  • makes you cry...

  • Very sad indeed. I hope I never have to get rid of my vinyl. Must be so hard storing that crazy amount of records though. I struggle at finding places to keep 6000.

  • if i will win at the lottery about 10 million i gill give him 9 and with the rest on one i'll live the rest of my days listening to music

  • @misu200692 ...THATS MY WORD....VINYL NEVER DIES,AS LONG AS TURNRABLES ARE HERE,VINYL ROCKS ON

  • this is so fucking sad.

  • Now this is the real definition of a music lover....

  • Oh for christ's sake! It is worth $50 million! Why would you all pay only $3 mil? Sure its a deal! But look at it! I'd buy it for at least $25 million, and that is still giving him the slip...

  • @Midfield401 Well, nobody wants to buy his collection, that's why he asks for only 3$ million bucks. that's the sad thing about it, in my eyes

  • future shorts is what i call my jeans that are developing holes in the knees.

  • i think this man makes a great point! even if i myself don't care for that music. it's an important piece of history. it's music. someone listened to it. it moved someone. it shouldn't just be thrown away. i wouldn't be happy if any of my cd's had to be thrown away. that would suck! someone should make a museum out of it or something. that would be pretty cool!

  • any band you listen to probably has vinyl records. its not limited to one kind of music

  • true. i never buy vinyls...so i always forget that.

  • Man if I ever win the lottery I know what I'm spending it on.

  • how sad...

  • thats beat, not too many people have money to buy a collection like that i bet, wish i did. i cant help but think that hip hop producers would be interested in that 83% of music no one has.

  • @beercity Word.

The amount of unique samples they could use.

    Amazing collection.

From someone who doesn't listen to the genres he has.

  • what a man...

dude has such love for music.

  • records recorded in a completely analog way and pressed to a vinyl will sound better sure. But most albums these days have a conversion to digital somewhere in there so that's that. According to red book specifications, CD's actually represent a broader frequency range than the human auditory system can even detect, so take that, nay-sayers. CD's are technically perfect in that sense.

Too bad this guy can't sell his shit. Shouldn't have invested in music that most people forgot about......

  • @usernamegta4 Hey dumb shit just because you don't play a musical instrument doesn't mean you don't appreciate music as much as someone who does play one. I would bet my life he cares more about music that you. He devoted his life to this collection and it all might be for nothing. Maybe you need to grow up and stop thinking your shit doesn't stink because you play a musical instrument badly. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

  • there should be some kind of a fundraising campaign for him so he doesn't have to sell the records...wait until i got 3M....

  • Is our country not interested in this priceless archive? This is a museum in itself. It's really quite unbelievable.

  • jesus, knowing the amount of dumb ass shit people buy out their its rediculous no one can give him even a serious offer. rich people don't konw shit about fuck

  • Ouch @ 6:36

  • Powerful when dude started cryin, I'd love to own his collection, soon as i get 3 million thats what I'm buyin. And it is a shame that no one cares about all of the lost music out there. I cant believe 83% of the worlds music is on vinyl. 83% that no one gives a fuck about, and you got people listenin to fucking Soulja Boy and Lil Wanye bullshit, even the new rock that comes out now is garbage....I feel what Paul was saying

  • i agree with paul records do sound better then cd.its a shame that no one is intrested in that.especially the people who waste money on nosense.if i had the money i would buy it,i envey you paul

  • He can be proud at himself! At least he knew what he lived for...

  • for what he lived for man? that archive is like a son for him. if the archive is-n safe ce can;t even die peacefull, i hope you undestand what i'm saying

  • You didn't understand me... He lived for music, he gave his life to music. And you're right too, but you can't say that he didn't enjoyed in what he was doing...However this last moments is hard for him, his entire life was a story like...

  • What is the Rolling Stones Album?

  • has he sold his collection yet?? last time i heard he was still looking for offers.

  • i would love to hear every record there.

  • What a passionate man and what a sad story. If i only had $3 mil

  • I total agree with ya kotep777, he should

  • dude is a legend and gets respect from diggers the world over....

he's accomplished what no one else has....he should relocate to a big city like NY or LA, he would clean up selling some of those records....he's never gonna sell the whole collection....not in these economic times....he should just go back in business....

  • Sorry its worth 50million

  • Its a shame that he must sell it. It's his Life!!! And I must say awesome Life. This Collection is worth 20 million maybe more. But he had to sell it for way less. Its so Sad... People don't appreciate music anymore.

  • digital music is only full fidelity as its sample rate....and even at the best sample rate you are missing parts of the waveform.....that will never change

  • triste.. muy triste, gente como el merece reconocimiento y apoyo, y solo reciben olvido...

  • Man If I only had 5 mill. 3 to give him and 2 to be able to afford to take care of it so the world would be able to enjoy it.

  • You are a great man, I hope someone takes on your collection.

  • i'm really sad...i have a small collection myself and i tell u this is just sad.

i wish i'd have the resources to take it up an make a museum.

    it's ....

  • its really sad....what a collection

  • I bought a turntable after reading Nick Hornby's High Fidelity; can't quite stretch to this collection after viewing this Sean Dunne short!

I really do hope a national sound archive will purchase this collection rather than a private collector.

I can visualise the museum. An over large record shop and you would be able to pick any record out of the rack and ask it to be played!

  • That man is a legend and yes it should be kept as a whole collection and preserved for future generations of music lovers!

There should be a fundraiser for this! I'm in the UK so $3m is like £1.5m or something (I dunno exactly but I know it's something like that)!

There's fundraising for loads of different things... this is a worthy cause!!!

    Who's with me?

  • Surely some one like Paul McCartney could purchase the entire archive and bequeath it to an institution such as the British Library or The Smithsonian

It would make sense , be a great gesture from a great talent who has done well from the music scene. Handy tax break too !

  • A museum is a great idea.

  • I'll take them all!

  • If I was a rich dude I'd buy his collection and begin constructing a juke box big enough to play all 2.5 million. It would be the biggest freaking thing evar.. Screw dinosaurs!

  • A heaven for people seeking samples.

  • my dad just opened up a record store. i hope to see a rise in popularity with these..but you never know.

  • priorities like what..tell me. What's more important than doing what you love?

  • Well, it has monetary value only if there's a market -- you can sell it. Unfortunately, most of the really rich people in the world are specialists at collecting something else -- money! I hope he can find a buyer, or better yet somebody who will set up a foundation to maintain a museum.

  • he could sell some of the never released on CD copies as mp3's on itunes

  • I bet u can make money with that some how!

why dont banks invest in in this? it wont lose value... And 50'000'000$ is like nothing for them

  • I'd totally buy the collection...if I had spare millions in my back pocket, lol!

Really touching story. Hope he finds a buyer.

  • Sad

  • sad story ;(

  • If I could have 3 million...

What's the name of the last song?

  • /sign

  • wow these things are treasures now... you can not buy them now!!!

  • made cry

  • Saddest documentary I've ever seen. I've never seen someone so passionate about something and it's upsetting that no one will help this guy :(

  • Shit, that was SO sad... tear :(

  • man.... i would sooooo buy that if i had the $ T.T

  • me too...

  • Comment removed

  • nifty

  • the government should buy it and make a museum just for that

  • i agree with u man

  • agreed!!!

  • He should consider trying to contact very big names in the music industry, i.e micheal jackson, paul Mcartney ect. I bet one of the big names would be a benefactor and appreciator.

Cool video and a good cause.

  • nice short, but pointless, cuz just big compresion like mp3 cut of the highs and the lowers.

a true song in wav is perfect. But this song is normally 80mb, how share i file of this side? is better compress for a 3mb file! loose quality but are small! if u like and wanna something better buy a cd.

  • Actually, there is a difference between vinyl and cd's. Cd's are digital, vinyl is analog. Digital is not a true representation of a waveform. It samples the wave form at specific points and fills in the parts in between, while analog is a true cut representation of the wave form. The real deal, and there is a noticeable difference. Also, not all cd's are over compressed today, although it is a common trend. It depends on who was engineering the recording.

  • 3 mill!?! If I had that I would jump at this opportunity!!

  • that's one awesome collection! America should buy it!!!!!!!!!!!! Put it in a museum or something, because if u throw it away, u are mentally deseased

  • Respect to you and what you have achieved. I cant beleive its only going for 3m when its worth 50m.

  • These are artifacts of the 20th century - why doesn't the US government step in?

    Beautiful short film nonetheless

  • Awh!!!!!!!!!... its so wonderful to see a man with so much spirit and passion. It breaks my heart to see the world start to crush him like that. If i was some celebrity with lots of money i definitely buy it.

  • thats crazy 3 million for all that music

    id buy it

but it wouldnt fit in my house

and id be paying the rest of my life for it haha

id still buy it though, i dont someone wouldnt buy a collection like that.

like it just doesnt fit in my head for some reason. just why not?

  • I trust his opinion on the sound quality, being blind heightens the other senses, & digital files do lose some quality for the sake of size-related connivence.

I'm glad there's people in this world who keep track of stuff like this-it keeps us from forgetting the past entirely.

I hope someone preserves what Paul has-The Library of Congress should buy it, really.

  • Very well put together. The soundtrack for the ending was perfect. The fact that he's a blind record collector makes it more dramatic. I hope they somehow save those records. Five stars.

  • God bless u..

  • We must retrieve money! We must ensure that this man can continue to!

  • aw this is so sad, but well done

  • that's a beautiful film!

well shot and directed - love it.

  • Please digitize all this and put it on torrents :) That would make my day.

  • Get a youtube video grabber.

  • Uhh... I was talking about the music silly!
